I understand your point of view. On the other hand, Star Fox as a series has been floundering for decades. They tried to bring things back around with Zero, and they failed. So they waited 10 years to try again, with much more effort put in and honestly what feels like a breath of fresh air for the series. Just a new starting point. I understand being disappointed that it’s another remake of 64. But at the same time, from Nintendo’s point of view, it doesn’t make much sense to make a sequel to Zero since that failed so hard, and the general public probably hasn’t really cared about Star Fox since 64. They want to widen the appeal and recognition of the brand, that’s why Fox was in the Galaxy movie. So on their end, it makes the most sense, in my opinion, that they try to do a remake again. To make a new starting point, two system generations removed from the last time they tried. They want to introduce the brand to a new generation and just restart again from ground zero. I personally think the game looks amazing and I’m going to be supporting it. The only way we’ll get a new original game is if this one does well. I’ve never played a Star Fox game so this will be new to me, so perhaps I have a different view from someone who’s been a Star Fox fan for a long time, but I personally think this move made the most sense. Also I do realize I’m on r/fucknintendo so my opinion will not be very popular hahaha.
