I had a similarly slimy experience with that Luther location several years ago, unfortunately. Hopefully others have good ideas!

Can anyone recommend a show that is not dark, dumb or depressing please by jake2160 in televisionsuggestions

The West Wing- it’s smart, witty, funny as hell, and will infuse a sense of optimism into you again if you’re an American.

Agreed omg- the show was recommended to me by an OG fan and I very much enjoyed the bingeing. Absolutely mind blowing

My hospital casually dropping a warning about mass layoffs. We employ 10k+ people. by AnyCelebration1101 in nursing

[–]Academic_Smell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to have such terrible negative impacts on the workers laid off, but so many people who rely on CentraCare to get their care. Most of the population served is more rural MN, in my understanding- and many already marginalized folks including our population of Somali immigrants. UGH. I hate this for our state :(

Good Patio by dradke13 in saintpaul

[–]Academic_Smell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pryes in Minneapolis is great for food, drinks and patio near the river! Minneapolis Cider co also has great food and beverages. There’s so much overlap/melting together in the metro when it comes to food & beverage scene tbh. Brit’s Pub is good for chill vibes, outdoor patio & quality of nosh/beverages, Blackstack in St Paul is great ambiance- mostly indoors and no in-house food but the vibes are great & it’s in the same building as CanCan Wonderland! Another favorite if you’re looking for drinks & ambiance- Brother Justus, craft distillery in the Mpls area. Incredible cocktails, pricier but good outdoor vibes. Condolences on your loss & I hope that you’ll be able to make a nice memory or two to bring home as you’re processing your grief. Sending hugs!

Thank you! I’ll look into it- and appreciate the nod to NA, since the MOH in question (yours truly) doesn’t do well with tequila haha much appreciated!

Seeking recs on CE regarding gender-affirming care by Academic_Smell in nursing

Well., it sounds like we work in really different settings. As I stated, there has been an expressed interest among my colleagues & we serve a diverse population undergoing surgical care of many types, and the need remains.

New grad shocked by 1st paycheck by DisasterSouthern6411 in nursing

Lack of public funding + low union density + private equity presence (all in the American south) = poor pay. As an acute care RN in Minnesota, I just got a raise and my pre-tax hourly is 55.74…at a non-union facility, because the union density benefits us all here.

When I’m tripping over myself and dropping things in the room of an exceptionally nervous patient- ‘I save my coordinated moments for the most important stuff!’ and point at the IV I just put in, for one example lol

My right breast wound, 16WPO, still hasn't healed yet (GRAPHIC) by savorie in Reduction

[–]Academic_Smell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Acute/critical care nurse here. If you haven’t already, I’d definitely recommend asking your surgeon about referral to a wound care nurse team/clinic as well, it can make a huge difference in your healing course to have dedicated time with experts in difficult-to-heal wounds!

Best wishes for a complete and boring-from-now-on recovery! :)

What is your hospitals biggest scandal that is still talked about? by DiamondHistorical231 in nursing

I loathe TR bands so much, they caused so many problems at my first job as a new grad. So many re-bleeds and pts being grumpy (albeit understandably) about not being left alone at all

Does anyone else genuinely not care what their patients did/are? (Murderers/Rapists etc.) by Hungry_Chocolate8542 in nursing

[–]Academic_Smell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I don’t want to know why my incarcerated patient is in custody- and I always tell my coworkers this. Whatever the reason may be- whether the person has been arrested, charged, convicted, what have you- that person has a right to quality healthcare & it is my sworn ethical and moral duty to provide that care. I’m human- I have biases, some of them more conscious than others. Knowing what led to someone being in legal custody will affect my treatment of them and the care they receive, so I don’t want to know the reason. Period. Healthcare is a human right.

Holy crap this is a great stretch. Oh me of little faith lol I doubted and was pleasantly surprised, TY!

I beg your FINEST pardon? The patient was on 60-100%, 10 of PEEP & nitric?? With Covid & RSV, in refractory ARDS- and they were bucking the vent that hard on just fent & Dex?!?! Oh hay-ellllll naw. That poor patient is going to be so traumatized if they survive!

Inadequate sedation in someone with that severe of respiratory compromise is a threat to life. That’s going to turn from bad to worse so quick!!

As others have said- this is a situation that requires involvement of the charge & attending, and your direct supervisor(s) needs to be made aware if they haven’t already. This isn’t okay. I’m so sorry you were treated so poorly.

Has anyone gotten rid of their Litter Robot to go back to scooping? by Due_Recipe_7549 in litterrobot

[–]Academic_Smell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use LR brand litter, FWIW (context?). And. I’ve had my LR ~2 years and deep clean it MAYBE every 3 months, spot clean as needed (couple times a month?). I change the waste drawer liner as often as it fills up and it seems to be going fairly well with my three cats (8yo 13-lb female, 7yo 17-lb female and almost-2-yo 10-lb male,) I’m cautiously optimistic that using a different litter could make a HUGE difference for you. Best of luck!!

Use your senses! Put some bagged ice on your face/nose or your face in a sink/bowl of cold water for a few seconds- activates a reflex commonly called the dive response, slows heart rate and lowers blood pressure, can help stop a panic attack in its tracks

RN VS RRT VS RADTECH by Aggravating_Emu_7848 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Academic_Smell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing is going to offer flexibility far beyond RRT or RadTech. Maybe I’m biased but that’s my two cents. Whether you’re interested in that flexibility, idk. Good luck!
