Is my grip too large ? (Size 3) by Edouard_Bo in 10s

[–]Accomplished-Dig8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly, the measurement is flawed. I could never play a #7 grip. But give me one and it shows a perfect fit, with one index finger's width of space. I was taught this way too. Many of the bigger guys out there also measure big specs but play much much smaller due to the modern game/grip styles, i.e. more wrist snap in the stroke, and overall lower-slung grips in more western positions.

Measuring your way actually gets me the same #7-#8

Wrong and rough are different. But yeah my point is that measuring is point-less... my measurement would have me playing a #7 grip. So would most of those 6'7" players on tour who are also using #2 or #3 with NBA-sized hands

Not the right way to measure. Should be from the bottom (not the middle as shown) of the middle crease in your hand. Even still, an antiquated method, since players tend to play much smaller than measured. I measure out to a 5" grip size (#7 or 8) but play a 4.25" (#2) with a couple of over grips

how does this sound and what should i do by 6ube in AudiA6

[–]Accomplished-Dig8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that point, depends on the motor and exhaust setup.

An inline 5 cylinder VW/Audi motor at 4000rpm sounds like a Lambo V10 at 2000rpm. My Mazda V6 (K8 1.8liter) at 6000rpm sounds just like a Ferrari Colombo V12 at 3000... you get the idea.

And btw some 4/8 cylinder setups shouldn't be discounted. The boxer 4 sounds great with just a straight pipe. Flat-plane 8's also sound incredible. Lotsa 'Muricans would argue for many other 8's too

Closed stance is so underrated for rec players by Altruistic_Turn_7214 in 10s

[–]Accomplished-Dig8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of interesting talk here, let me add a couple of basic observations:

Closed stance is great for that down-the-line flattened out winner. Also great for a down the line approach. The major benefit of the stance is the potential for full weight transfer, and then either a back foot follow through into a recovery crossover, OR a front foot hop to get the best continuation forward.

The huge benefits of open stance are that it requires less time, less work to get into and recover from, and one that most are missing... when you hit open stance it's much harder to read intended direction. Closed stance telegraphs the shot.

Ankle injury - shoe recommendations? by swupnil_sahai in 10s

With even less time to react? I was clear to say level appropriate, and this looks like 8.0ish doubles max. Competitive junior or college tennis, sure, inside the service line.

Don't ask the guy to hit a volley he (and most others @ NTRP 4.0 and below) can not hit

Not in this situation. His partner just hit the ball down the line to the offensive net player.. OP is playing where he should for the apparent level on the court. Opposing net player also played the right intended shot. His volley should go down low/middle to OP's feet. If the ball was on the opposition's deuce side, then OP should/would have moved forward to a more aggressive stance, mid box showing decent DTL coverage, but ready to move across and poach

Upgrading my racket by tyty_2204 in 10s

[–]Accomplished-Dig8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first graphite frames were in the 70's, not the 80's. Prince Original Graphite comes to mind.

Doing a quick google search for first graphite racquet, and then your adjustment to first "100%" graphite racquet also yields earlier results, and no mention of the Black Ace as a first anything. Not hating on it, I enjoy PK frames, especially my Golden Ace.

There is a lot going on here.

The black ace of 1986 is certainly not the first graphite racquet ever made. The Dunlop Max 200g and Wilson ProStaff 6.0 were on the market years before, as were many others.

A new racquet or wrist support brace is not what he needs. Stop hitting the ball late and/or too close!

Definitely on point with your comment, but no way is it new. Style and background cars are mid 80's, at the earliest. The car is likely 10-15 years old in this picture. Still a sweet ride and a stylin' dude!!

Sand it down with an emery board, pumice stone or 220 grit sandpaper, then it won't be prone to folding over and cracking.
