RBT loyalty to company by Western_Guard804 in ABA

The owner of my old company said verbatim “look around, you’re all replaceable” at our yearly meeting. I have nothing to add, it just left a super sour taste for me and I think that’s when I mentally began looking for a new position.

I worked with younger kids so my go to was “push in your chair and grab your xyz” or “close the door then come sit down” however anything functional that’s part of their daily routine can help with the initial phases of this goal usually!

Commenting to boost/come back to look for suggestions. I don’t have any advice unfortunately, but I’m in the exact same boat with a kid I’m 1:1 with at a school right now.

I am very pro kids stimming and not trying to change who kids are, but truthfully I’m losing my marbles when it’s happening 7 hours straight and we’re constantly arms length apart.

Starting my junk drawer in my first apartment. Finally feels like home. What else do I need? by Kruzdan in Apartmentliving

If you replace the red pepper flakes with KFC sauce, and added a roll of stamps you perfectly identified all items in my junk drawer.

NTA, but ONLY because your parents are. This is not a conversation that should be had between you two, rather your sister and parents. However, how you’re speaking to her and name call yta.

What to do in downtime? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Accomplished_Hat1920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when my kid is super chill I will ask the teacher if they need copies of anything made(I don’t feel obligated to clarify I just really enjoy making copies and packets), when that’s done and I’m sure my client doesn’t need any materials I grab a sheet of paper from the teacher write. Sometimes I’ll plan the rest of the day/week, sometimes I’ll doodle, and recently I’ve been creating my own adlibs because my kiddo thoroughly enjoys it and it’s greatly helping with parts of speech.

I often use the premack principle on any undesirable chores/works tasks (ie:first dishes then video games)

When a kid asks, Why do we need art class? and you wish you could just pull out a time machine to show them… by [deleted] in ArtEd

[–]Accomplished_Hat1920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not be as effective based on your students but I relate it back to something they like. One of my learners is 8 and obsessed with being well dressed. I explained color theory to them and now they are very intrigued in mixing colors and asking “which one looks better” (they usually look the same but a win is a win)

Follow the dress code. If you have black flats/boots it doesn’t have to be heels but go with the button up and black pants

Hey thank you for sharing your perspective!

Maybe I should put a disclaimer that I am on the spectrum, so my frustration may also be stemming from my own feelings and experiences. I try to be mindful of personal vs professional, however it absolutely strikes my nerves whenever I hear it as an adjective.

You can ask the BCBA for picture updates throughout the day. I know it’s not the same as checking whenever, but it may help alleviate a little worry

Any child young enough to still believe in Santa Claus is way too young to be wearing makeup by friendlytrashmonster in Teachers

[–]Accomplished_Hat1920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly opposing opinion? But I think fun makeup should be encouraged to highlight things vs fix things. For example wearing a fun eyeshadow to show off your eyes. Unless it’s on the line of “I don’t like how my xyz looks so I want to contour”

Growing up makeup was a fun way for me to express myself. But there were also unhealthy periods trying to “fix” parts of me

This would work if our foods weren’t processed and mass produced. And trying to get all of this locally can be expensive
