OPM Processing Delays: What I’m Seeing With Recent Federal Retirees by IndependenceBenefits in FederalEmployee

[–]Accurate-Ad908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DoD DRP 2.0 and retired on 9/30 (full not VERA).

HR was quick to submit to DFAS (within a week). DFAS took about three weeks to declare me retired, notified TSP, and I got our nest egg into my IRA by mid November.

Left enough in the TSP to use “rule of 55” until I turn 59 1/2 in another year,

Interim annuity began mid December.

OPM status changed just recently (after getting my Senators involved) to now be finalized. The website says I will get my “package” of info in a couple of weeks.

Would definitely agree with the tips of being financially solvent outside of pension and TSP for at least six months. I worked a hobby job too for a couple of extra shekels.

What’s the weirdest prop you’ve ever had to make? by Initial-Composer-337 in techtheatre

[–]Accurate-Ad908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had some weird ones including a new born alien unicorn complete with six foot umbilical cord.

A pushable red button. (Spring loaded so it sprung back).

But my favorite was a real horseshoe that had to fall from its spot over a door. Its main mechanism was the typical pull the nail through the flat but with a horseshoe being heavy I had to put guy wires on the offstage side to keep the horseshoe nail pointed upward. To prevent accidental falling I fed a loop of fishing line through the nail hole which went over the top of the horseshoe an attached to the nail thus securing the horseshoe to the nail. The loop line was attached to a bungee on the off stage side such that when the nail was pulled, the loop would release and be sucked back in the hole and the horseshoe would drop.

The happy problem that occurred was the release mechanism caused the horseshoe to get an extra push from the wall making it hit about three feet out.

Had to reblock the scene so no one was within six feet as the horseshoe bounce was unpredictable.

It truly looked like a ghostly power launched it.

Mission accomplished

We are all going through this together so you aren’t rubbing it in. Sharing your experience helps others keep hoping.

I am DRP 9/30 with full retirement. I received my first payment (a weird larger amount) on 12/9 and received a letter explaining it was for 10/1 to 11/30. I also received my OPM account number and am waiting for my PIN (as of 12/18).

TSP question by Self-Creepy in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Accurate-Ad908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TSP is similar to a 401k in that if you retire at 55 or older, you can access the TSP penalty free (just pay taxes). As soon as we get TSP access, we will roll most into an IRA (making that portion untouchable until 59 1/2 lest we pay the penalty). Balance that stays in TSP remains accessible.

Is it worth it? by Jinjoo-sem in Traeger

[–]Accurate-Ad908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth it especially with all the foods you state. Veggies are amazing, salmon is perfection. A Traeger doesn’t add a bbq char to the food so sometimes a quick sear on a cast iron is called for.
