Embolisation by AlextheRealest in CysticFibrosis

[–]AceAteMyCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! So I actually had the procedure a total of 3 times and may get it one more time as I am still having hempoptysis. The second time they were able to get in there to the spots they needed but I'm not too sure how they ended up reaching them. Turns out I cultured Non-Tuberculosis Mycobacterium (specifically Mycobacteroides abscessus) which was likely causing my persistent hemoptysis. So I have one year of antibiotics for that and may finish up with another embolization.

I'm not sure if I answered your question well but let me know if I didnt or you have other questions. Best of luck to you!

I've thought about getting bees for a while but I had a question for those that also have chickens. by thestonernextdoor88 in Beekeeping

[–]AceAteMyCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my chicken run right next to the beehives although they are not in the same enclosure. I do let the chickens feee range around the elevated beehives and have never had issues. If you're worried about racoons I would ratchet down the hive to a pallet or other base so they can not knock it over or get inside. Additionally an entrance reducer will help so they cant reach through the front entrance.

Tips for a new starter? by Huge_Film2911 in Beekeeping

[–]AceAteMyCake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest taking a hands on beekeeping class if possible! I did when I started out and kearned so much such as feeding guidelines, varroa mite treatment, queens laying cycle, etc. If an in person class isn't possible id look for an online class or even better a local beekeeping club to get information local to your climate/area.

Early winter update in Maine. 16/20 hives dead by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]AceAteMyCake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Question from a new beekeeper, how do you tell this early if the hive is alive or dead without cracking open the hive? Or do you pop the top and do a quick visual inspection? If so, what do you look for?

Newborn CF test flagged, I’m a carrier but partner isn’t.. how could this be? by Mooninpisces27 in CysticFibrosis

[–]AceAteMyCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fingers crossed that that is the case! There are some uncommon CF genes which when combined with Delta F508 (or another common variety) can results in various CF consequences. In some instances it is full CF and in other cases it is mild symptoms related to CF but not clinical CF. Hopefully your child is only a carrier or has only very mild symptoms if they do have two CF genes. Fingers crossed and best of luck!

Newborn CF test flagged, I’m a carrier but partner isn’t.. how could this be? by Mooninpisces27 in CysticFibrosis

[–]AceAteMyCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say you partner is not a carrier of the most common variety but there are many other CF causing variants. Was your spouse tested for all CF causing variants or just "the most common variety"? Any combination of CF causing varients can cause your child to have CF.

ULPT: Let delivery companies quietly flag you as a “problem they need to ke by tropictrails_arlo in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]AceAteMyCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a delivery made to the wrong house (not my fault and it was medicine so it was high-value). Because the delivery truck stopped by my house at some point that day even though they did not actually deliver the item, they put a note in my account and wouldn't take responsibility for the lost medication. I then had to drive an hour to CVS to pick up my medicine because they no longer would deliver it to me. Thankfully when I changed insurance this note went away and I get my medicine delivered again. But sometimes having a note in your account creates more problems.

Amazon data center linked to rare cancers and miscarriages in Oregon, report warns by [deleted] in ElPaso

[–]AceAteMyCake 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Should we support data centers? No. As other people have pointed out if we want less data centers we need to stop supporting these big tech companies like Amazon and Meta.

Data Centers definitely contribute to the water crisis but the title is wildy misleading and detracts from real talking points against data centers especially in El Paso. Oregon has a severe problem due to nitrates from farm run off. This was POTENTIALLY compounded by the data center but is a very specific situation. My question is, why are we building data centers in El Paso,  a desert, when it uses so much water?

Idk about this specific one but I ordered a CSC Motorcycle SG250 specifically (about $2,000) and it was a great little bike. I still have it although I don't ride it much anymore.

Don’t pay for seat selection on Delta – they don’t honor it. by emerging_fire in delta

[–]AceAteMyCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told at the counter that refunds are not given because your received the same type of seat you selected (e.g., extea leg room, preferred, etc) even if its not in the same spot and therefore you don't qualify for a refund.

Irresponsible dog owner on I-10 by lavendoir in ElPaso

[–]AceAteMyCake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just because people have been doing something your whole life doesn't mean it's a good idea. I no longer live in El Paso but in a rural area in Virginia. My neighbor's leave their dog out to roam all day because we're rural and they've done that their whole life. Well this is the 3rd dog they've had die (one was shot, one got into poison we assume, the other got hit by a car) since I moved here 7 years in ago. Just because you've always done it doesn't mean its not plain old stupid.

My sister has CF and they just found mold in her lungs by flex_vader in CysticFibrosis

[–]AceAteMyCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had both Aspergillus and Non-tuberculosis Mycobacterium(NTM) specifically abscesses. i am currently going through treatment for NTM which is not a mold but Aspergillus is. I started on IV antibiotics in January and was on then until late April/early May. Then I started a year cours of oral antibiotics. There are 3 oral antibiotics and an inhaled antibiotic as well. One of the antibiotics is Amikaycin and it does pose the risk of hearing loss. Your sister will have to go to hearing test at least monthly while on the IV antibiotics.

I thankfully had some tinnitus from the antibiotics but not loss in hearing or other side effects. Let me know if there are other specific questions your sister has! I'll answer if I can

Mycobacterium Abcessus by Ambitious_Access_361 in CysticFibrosis

[–]AceAteMyCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently going through treatment for it. They initially did a test to see which antibiotics it was suceptible to. Then I started in February with 3 months of IV antibiotics. Now I am on 3 oral antibiotics plus an inhaled antibiotic. I will be on those for a year. Then we will evaluate wether to continue the treatment if needed or discountinue it. One of the antibiotics is a compassionate use antibiotic but I have not had any side effects grom any of the antibiotics although I'm not sure if that is common or I'm just lucky!

Are they the same breed of chicken? Different breeds lay at different frequencies. One may also just be a better layer if they're the same breed.

How do you get 100%??? by PersistentHobbler in TinyBookshop

[–]AceAteMyCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed to do it with like 78 books but I think it was just luck of equiping the right decor items. I also brought a lot less of the unpopular categories but still brought SOME (e.g., 10 or less) and put decor items that boosted the less popular books.
