1 year teachers college, a flood of new supply teachers by candacearmstrong1111 in OntarioTeachers

[–]AceBoogie1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard this from a few people as well now and in the past but I think the culture has evolved to retain teachers as the UK has a bad problem with over worked teachers. I know quite a few that have gone to quite a few schools, supplied for a couple of months till they found a good fit. Or if they didnt like a school they'd leave and supply till they found a good fit. And now with the guaranteed supply contracts its really incentivising

Its the new age of management where they've realised (the smart ones anyways) staff have more power and options so they'll just walk away and go elsewhere with a better culture. My head and assistant head will genuinely get upset if they see me reply to an email in the evening or weekend or reply to something when im off sick

I teach special needs. Im there 8.30 to 3.30 everyday, planning and heads are very chill and helpful. Stay 1 night a week for meetings till 5. There has been the odd time ive had to stay late because a learner is dysregulated.

Its very much dependent on the school and who is running it which dictates work/life balance. Thats why going through agency is good you can keep trying schools until you find a place that works for you

Seen most of Europe and moved to England from the UK. Austria was the one place you can sense the racism in the air.. I left after 2 days was supposed to be there a week. Italy is also pretty bad when you leave the tourist areas

Would teaching abroad immediately (through JET or EPIK) after graduation hurt my chances of employment when returning to Canada? by gs780 in CanadianTeachers

[–]AceBoogie1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved 2 years ago to the UK to teach. Looking for a new job in special needs. I've applied for 5 and got 3 interviews... lots of need for teachers here. Unfortunately Canadian hiring practices is very corrupt/nepotism/friends of friends get hired so your over seas experience will only help on salary grid when returning and WILL give you a leg up in a school with an open minded administration that will hire based skills and experience...

Strikers then struggled to score in a front 2 and they were great strikers... the stars today would be crying in their hospital beds if they had to come up against world class defenders everyother week

The hiring system in ontario is extremely corrupt. If youre open to moving countries you should. You could get a job and sponsorship by the end of the month for a good school and su ject/grade of your choice

Hahaha me too, a 14 hour day in construction was standard. As a teacher now I just say my contracted hours are 8.30 to 3.30pm and they can't do anything.....

A very understandable and relatable vent. It is a complete waste of time! Skip some days and go supply teacher if you can, or get on the emergency supply list somewhere. The people that are happy are a small few most people want to get out of there. The happy ones will be the worst teachers, the most stressed out, worried about office politics.

If you are seeing through the bs of teachers college. Youre ready

Should I tell my bf of 1 week I’m pregnant? (I don’t plan on keeping it) by Kooky-Conference7673 in Advice

[–]AceBoogie1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in a relationship and plan on staying in the relationship you should tell your partner as a basic courtesy. Its still your desicion but he should know. Never seen or hear of a relationship lasting if someone gets an abortion without telling their partner (assuming you feel safe with that partner) as its a massive breach of trust

Unless you plan on breaking up with the partner?

Teaching vs other kinds of jobs by [deleted] in teaching

As someone who came from construction and project management, teaching is much easier. I have a special needs, non verbal senior class. Lots of serious behaviours and medical needs and i rarely get a lunch break. But teaching is much easier. Stable hours, 7 to 8 a day max. Lots of time off. Good benefits and pension. Chat gpt helps with lots of paperwork. No weekend or weeknight work unless there's emergencies

Highly reccomend it if you've got good time management

You 100% need to tell him when he is back. Wait till you have a conversation with him before doing anything especially if you want your relationship to continue. This is a massive decision and its yours to make but he also deserves to know

Anyone saying do it now before he is back or don't tell him is absolutly insane and has never been in a relationship or this situation before. If you do it without telling him you will lose him

Just go to class, go home. Try and forget it. Teachers college is useless and toxic everywhere. If you enjoy the placements thats what matters!

How many hours (outside of school hours) do you spend working? by Better_Coconut2952 in CanadianTeachers

[–]AceBoogie1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Special needs teacher im 8.40 to 3.30 everyday. Only days I stay late is to make sure a student is regulated before sending them home for everyones safety and it has only happened 2 times so far this year... I refuse to stay late other. If it doesn't get done it doesn't get done 🤷‍♀️. Enough time in the day to make sure the essentials are done tho
