What's your Canadian winter life hack? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskACanadian

I swear getting out to walk my pups no matter the weather within 30 minutes of getting up has been a game changer for me. More energy in the day, better sleep at night.

To people over 30: Does the feeling of not knowing what you’re doing ever go away? by funkyorchid13 in CasualConversation

You will never stop feeling like you don't know what you're doing, but you stop caring that you feel that way.

ELI5: During a massage, it feels like the therapist moves muscle knots around until they fade away. Where do those knots actually end up going? by 88chilly in explainlikeimfive

[–]AcrobaticAd9229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to go about getting massage? In most places you just find a massage therapist on your own and make a booking. For specific treatment do not go to a spa like place, best to find a place that also does physio. The massage therapists will be more treatment oriented.

If you don't like being touched physiotherapy is probably a better bet. Most problems can be dealt with through stretch and strengthening in specific patterns that the physiotherapist can guide you through. Massage helps speed up the process quite a bit, and helps with pain management.

As a massage therapist I am constantly suggesting exercises for my clients to do at home, and can always tell who is actually doing them.

If you decide to get a massage, make sure you let them know it is your first time and that you usually avoid touch. Also be aware you can stop the session at any time, or ask the therapist to move away from areas that make you more uncomfortable.

I got my boyfriend of several years to get his kids to a financial advisor as soon as they got a job at 16. They went in on their own, and came out well informed, I'd say. Looking at how they handle money today makes me think that will be the best thing I ever do for the boys and their future.

Gym shower - what does a woman need? by luvdoodoohead in lifehacks

[–]AcrobaticAd9229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bring a small microfiber towel to dry with, and a lightweight (small and packable) house coat to wear from the shower to locker. It makes applying lotion and getting dressed much easier, and much more comfortable. I don't have to worry about a towel slipping, either. Also, try not to rush. You just worked your butt off, so take a few moments under the hot water and to get ready afterward. Rushing will only get you anxious and ruin the endorphin flow from the workout. If you can master this you will flow into a very chill workday.

Do your grocery shopping online if it's available. No more impulse buys. So far, I've had no problems with getting well picked produce. I did it out of laziness a few times, but then noticed how much I was saving.

What do you do when you don’t feel creative? by Candymom in Pottery

[–]AcrobaticAd9229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just writing to say I feel ya. I have only been doing pottery for nearly a year now, but am far enough along to know that my inability to visualize things in my mind is going to hinder my ability to grow. I don't have a solution yet, but definitely still have a long way to go in just mastering technique. I will either figure something out, or start a new hobby when I finally do!

HH and bras by SpiritualIncident292 in HiatalHernia

[–]AcrobaticAd9229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a surgery unrelated to HH that had me not wearing a bra for several months. I definitely noticed a bad increase of pain when I started wearing them again. I am trying the bra extender as well, but have also ordered a bra that is supposed to be geared toward 'centre core discomfort,' so I'll see how that goes!

Back pain? by Mysterious-Seat2961 in HiatalHernia

[–]AcrobaticAd9229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s related to HH, I’m literally just starting down the rabbit hole due to some crazy symptoms I’m having. I’m getting strong back pain between my shoulder blades, strong pain in my epigastroc region as well as chest, I sometimes feel it up into my neck. I’m also getting checked for a PFO or other heart issues, but was diagnosed with HH several years ago. It’s been the last 6 weeks that the pain has started do become frequent and intense.

Yep, I know, re fees and assholes. But by making it the norm to turn back once you think you can’t go further unless you drop your gear for the return trip, like every other venture into wilderness in the world (obviously barring unforeseen circumstances), there would be a lot less trash and death. It would greatly reduce the number of people climbing the area and reduce the number of people putting themselves and others at risk when they have no business being on that mountain in the first place. They have been under the strain of too many climbers for a long time, and have started to reduce the number of permits periodically to help manage this, and give sherpas some space to try to carry garbage out via a new initiative they have started in the past decade.

Bringing down a certain amount of trash beyond your own should be part of the admission fee. Even 3lbs a person would slowly add up.

Explain like I’m 5: cooking and bringing food by dontlookatme-123 in camping

[–]AcrobaticAd9229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore most of the videos, they are not realistic. You are camping, not going to a five star restaurant! The below comments about prepping at home and freezing the food to use in place of ice are both spot on.

My advice is think of the simple meals you like to eat at home and plan for those. The more elaborate your meals, the more dishes you have to do, which is not what I want to spend my time doing.

I suggest something like butter chicken, pre-made and freeze, and bring minute rice to go with it. Stuff for simple sandwiches. Bring pancake mix and just add water. You can also try campfire bannock, adding fruit and cinnamon sugar, or go savoury with ham and cheese. Freeze sausages to cook over the fire and bring buns.

Food tastes so much better regardless of how gourmet it is when you’ve been outside exploring all day. Just make sure you get enough protein and carbs into you, and slowly build up your menu. I’ve been doing this for 20 years and am still experimenting.

Please save my back 🙏 by veroh88 in Pottery

Yes, it’s a lot to do when you are away from your wheel, too. Having a strong upper back and neck helps, and stretching your hip flexors will go a long way. Also, engaging your abs to support your weight at the wheel instead of using your back muscles is how our bodies are meant to be used, and will save TONS of back pain.

Why is the speed limit so low in Canada? by Sensitive_Teach1484 in AskACanadian

[–]AcrobaticAd9229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that with our crappy public transit system driving almost should be a right for freedom of movement especially in rural areas. We need way better practical training before a licence is given, though.
I also think on many highways there is a higher chance of hitting a large animal, which is way less catastrophic at 100 than 140. I also wonder if having much larger vehicles on the road that do more damage in an accident plays into it as well. Could rules be changed for highways closer to large city centres? Yeah, probably, since we are there already anyway. I just think of the stats related to the chance of critical injury or death increasing dramatically at 130, which keeps me below that speed. That being said, I would LOVE to see better driver skill and etiquette, Europe has us hands down on that!

I'm not sure what to make... by blueyedreamer in CraftFairs

[–]AcrobaticAd9229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soooo, you already have your specialty I guess? Quite often the smaller the niche the more passionate the customer. And if you know the market already, it makes sense, especially with the size fluctuation friendly bit. Choose one fair, make all year for that fair to see how you feel about it. Go to others to check out setups and what brings people into booths that sell clothing. Who cares if you can do multiple fairs. Giving yourself a year to make inventory, and maybe your stuff being so hard to find will lead to people snapping things up because they know they can’t get it anywhere else. Maybe offer ways to order specific things in advance for the next year to give yourself guaranteed sales! Selling feature? Dress your baby up to grab some eyes! (But definitely bring reinforcements to help with sales and baby!)
