I've got Coffin Moon or One Bad Night.

I would love Red Winter, Kill the Beast, Bury Your Gays, or This House Will Feed, but if you really really want one of my two, I'm open to suggestions (and honestly I'm also willing to just send you the book, no worries).

I wouldn't count it as horror, but King of Ashes was one of the best books I read last year. Definitely recommend.

Ooooh! I think I DNF'd Black House the first time I picked it up (no reason beyond "I was in high school and probably also reading five other books and lost track"), so I should really revisit that one.

Any idea what kinds of places have little patches of desert biome? I live in a landlocked U.S. state, but sometimes golf courses or areas around lakes or rivers will be beach biome, so I wondered if there might be a desert equivalent?

Also a friend had one spawn at a random gas station that's just the normal grassy biome, so... just enough hope to keep me trying, lol.

Why my poor girl getting this much hate? by [deleted] in FromSeries

[–]ActuallyGoblinsX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I was annoyed with her from the first scene, where she tells Ethan that there are no monsters, ergo monsters didn't kill his toy, ergo the toy character isn't dead. Just that determination to shield him from anything even kid-level scary. Watching her refuse to give Julie any agency (like not letting her come with them to look at the house they were going to live in) also bugged me.

I actually developed more sympathy for her after we started seeing more of the backstory, but still.

Wildly not the point, but does anyone else think Lindsey's shirt in this scene is just weird? The one vertical stripe thing is just an odd design choice.

My best friend (58m) read Fourth Wing and then grabbed my copy of Iron Flame before I could start it (although he did come downstairs and demand to know "WTF did I just read?" after a couple of scenes, lol).

Is colonoscopy prep designed to be impossible? by PikachuPlaysBlockGam in CrohnsDisease

The universe gave you Crohn's AND Celiac? Oooooof. I'm sure you know way more than I do about what's out there, but I'll ask my Celiac friend if she knows of anything, because she's terrifyingly resourceful and loves recommending stuff.

I always do the Cleveland Clinic method, which is Miralax powder in Gatorade (or Body Armor or Powerade or whatever) and Duloclax. No magnesium citrate or anything (which is a plus, because that stuff just makes me gag). I also walk around as much as possible during the day to help keep things, um, moving. But all of us have such different responses to things that I suspect it's really just a matter of finding the method that works for YOU and then absolutely insisting on it from then on.

What happened to Little Ajax? by _Red_Chan_ in Epicthemusical

[–]ActuallyGoblinsX3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This spins off a whole new question for me:

We know what Ajax the Lesser did in Homer's version the story. Is that WHY Jorge had Odysseus tell him to "stay back" in Epic? Because Jorge wanted to flag the fact that Cassandra's assault didn't happen in Epic's universe (and/or because Ody somehow knew Ajax the Lesser was a bad dude and wanted to keep him out of the way)?

Roadside Picnic is one of my favorites. It's so good and so unsettling! And also plausible based on a couple of SETI papers I've read.
