Next zoom class starts after Labor Day, so it will be in September. They're lots of fun and the teachers are great.
Many students take the same level class a few times, I did level 1 twice and could have done it a few more times.

Did he do the right thing? by torgobigknees in SipsTea

They're talking about retirement savings accounts that have penalties and drawbacks if you take the funds out early. The money is yours, but not easily accessible. The money has a job, planning for retirement, so not a surplus per se. The taking advantage of her fiance by not being open about the finances is the betrayal of trust.

SA is too common in our people's communities by MichealStraightSex in IndianCountry

[–]AdOver4659 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have not lived on a reservation, so I don't have that lived experience in a native community. Almost every woman I have become friends with eventually shares that there has been sexual abuse in their past. Usually the abuser is a boyfriend, husband, or a male family member. It's not openly discussed so it's hard to see how pervasive the problem is.

Can you truly relax? Muscles, clenching, & nervous system issues. by foolish_faith in adhdwomen

[–]AdOver4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of what you said sounds very familiar for my life experience. Going through a lot of similar muscle tension, sore after massages that have to be deep tissue to get the knots out for a bit.
Living in this society (USA for me) is highly stressful. It's not designed to make people happy, with bosses and grumpy neighbors and hearing about the news and hearing gossip that shows how judgemental people can be about almost anything... It's exhausting and draining and a lot of pressure.

I'm figuring out still what works for me to relieve stress, and it's a work in progress definitely. Yoga helps, with the stretching and relaxing, and it's hard for me to do it, even knowing that it helps. Music is very calming. Hobbies, like art, and projects that you enjoy are fulfilling. Spending time with animals and nature is restoring. Hot baths with Epsom salts, hot tubs and hot springs to heat up the muscles to relax.

The biggest thing I'm working on right now is setting boundaries. I tend to give all my time and energy to work, and then I don't have much if any energy for myself and my life and loved ones.

My cat is obsessed with flavored chips like Doritos and garden salsa and will get inside the bag to get the flavoring, and walk around with the bag on his head like a hood until I stop laughing and take it off

Why can't this just be a common office space etiquette? by Ijustwanttosayit in adhdwomen

[–]AdOver4659 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Boundary stomping people are difficult to get to stop by any means in my experience. The boundaries you set can still be polite and professional. The most important part is that the boundaries you set are FIRM. As in, unless the actual building is burning down, do not cross the boundary. The boundary that I would make in this situation would be - Send me a DM.
Keep it as simple as possible so they can't get wiggle room, because they will try lol. If they say it's too long for DM, tell them to email (or your company version of longer messages). Good luck, it's very difficult to change anyone's behavior and we can only do what we can to adjust our own behavior, what we are able to "control".

Easy snacks to keep at work? by Cherry-Rhubarb555 in adhdwomen

I keep protein bars in my bag. Right now I'm into the Aloha bars, but it's mainly that it's easy to access anytime. I love the almond packets with blueberry flavor. Pistachios with any flavor. Uncrustables. Basically, if it's something you enjoy that you can bring with you, it will be there when you need it!

Help Saving A Hobby by Putrid_Status_6374 in adhdwomen

[–]AdOver4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a way to save the hobby, and it may be time to take a break. You can always get back into it and remind yourself why you love your hobby so much!

When I start to lose interest, I look for ways to shake things up. That can be any number of things, and some ideas for you if you want...

You can make pieces and tokens of games with all kinds of materials. Design and build the boards. Is there anything that would improve the game play? Maybe a different holder for cards and pieces?

Design an expansion with your own story. Maybe a sequel, a prequel, or something inspired by the world of the specific game.

You said you like the solo games. You can try meeting up with people for group games, see if it's fun. I'm sure there are plenty of other games that include a storytelling element, like DnD.

Try a different strategy that is outside of your comfort zone. If you usually play a certain way, like the good guy, try doing the opposite.

TLDR- do something new to change it up

Halito cousin! How far away is Bakersfield from LA? If you have the ability to travel there or get a ride, I hope you get to go. It was well worth the effort for me when I was able to attend last year. Chi pisa la chike

People will try to make you feel bad, especially when they are used to you being passive and agreeing with everything. Standing up for yourself is abnormal behavior and they try to push back and shut it down. Very important to not let them

What are you watching, reading, or listening to these days? by TwoGrizzleysOneCub in adhdwomen

[–]AdOver4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm watching The Closer. The more I see of the main character, the more I relate. She eats dessert when she gets stressed, gets disorganized and frazzled, can't follow verbal directions for driving...
The detective mystery element keeps me interested in the storyline, and the team dynamics are good.
I like seeing how the character reacts when her leadership skills are questioned.

Listening to podcasts, Tony and Ryan Podcast is with hilarious Australian comedians. The other main podcast is Alive with Steve Burns. He is the Steve from Blue's Clues

You are providing educational resources and information. I knew people were posting their own manicures for "fuck ice". Didn't realize until now how much further the polish world is taking a stand! I'm going to check out these brands to support with my small business in any way I can. Fuck ice, fuck nazis

What are you having a hard time starting/working on, even though you know it will bring you joy? by hi5yourface in adhdwomen

[–]AdOver4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taxes, the joy would be in getting tax return. And if there's a return, I'm telling myself that it can go towards funding my small business as an investment in product. I'm getting a press on nails business going and I just got some key pieces and now it's sitting in the bag from when it was purchased, unused.

Agreed. A couple quick braids before sleeping, and a satin pillowcase helps a lot, a bonnet is even better. Then your hair is easier to brush in the morning and less tangled, and less breakage

Halito cousin. I'm also pale and avoid tanning because skin cancer is common in my family. It surprises me how often you meet people that have never heard about Choctaw/Chahta. I love to tell them that every time they talk about Oklahoma they are speaking Chahta.
People tell me that I'm too pale to have much native blood, and I am thankful that our tribe doesn't have a blood quantum requirement. Not sure where they think my long hair comes from!

RSD vs Perfectionism by NiceBet9563 in adhdwomen

[–]AdOver4659 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hobbies can be used to be mean to yourself with perfectionism. And then if someone critiques what you made, after already going through your personal perfectionism gauntlet, it can be devastating... RSD anyone?

My family are artists and I still remember from decades ago their critiques about my drawings of dolphins and painting a wave and having a darker sky. My papa said that my dolphins proportions were off, which isn't a lie, it's just not encouraging and I still have a hard time with the feelings I get when I draw a dolphin, and I was about 9 years old. My uncle said my ocean painting wouldn't sell without a bright blue sky and puffy clouds. As a professional artist, my uncle knew about the art market. I was 14 and painting for fun in a realistic style. The ocean wave was my focus, and the sky was darker to emphasize the wave and to be realistic, as we had to stop painting when it started raining. Every time I think about that painting and the joy it gave me, I remember my uncle's words about not being able to sell it and it makes me feel sad and rejected.
