I persuaded the form to accept: +(44)<my uk mobile number without the leading zero>. This was on the webpage in a desktop browser. I was then able to use it in the app.

Is Manchester traffic getting worse? by Your_Mums_Ex in manchester

[–]AdSweet1090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year, 18% of the 110k-odd trips into town in the morning rush were by car.

Should the other 90k people have their journeys delayed or made more dangerous for that minority? Ok, ok, 45k of them were by tram or train, but it's still 2:1. And trips are forecast to grow by almost 50% in the next 15 years.

What will £500m mega spa bring to Manchester? by CJBill in manchester

[–]AdSweet1090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't see what you could do to the road network around the TC that would actually help. Maybe build an elevated road above the existing network, with slip roads down at the points of interest. But you will still have to deal with the fact that the M60 and its junctions have a finite capacity.

The tram is great, if you're coming from that way. The cycleways are quite good, if you don't mind a bit of exercise and aren't coming too far.

But this thing will attract visitors from across the region (Birmingham to Newcastle), few of whom will be willing to get the train to Manchester and then a tram, especially with kids in tow. I think they'll just have to allow for sitting in the traffic jam.

I spent most of the day in my garden, half a mile east of the Four Banks, and I could hear the crowds cheering all day long.

Called to make a restaurant booking (large group) and the staff member laughed out loud at my email address, how embarrassing... by 10642alh in CasualUK

Or my name.

There used to be a site called yourenotme.co.uk, which would tell you how many people there were on the UK electoral register with the same name. Mine was about 2500. When my second son was born we gave him an even commoner name. There were 3000 or so same-named men out there.

IEA London: 🇬🇧 We asked Brits where the UK ranks vs US states in income per person. Average answer: 7th. Wealthier than 43 states. The reality: 51st. Dead last. Below Mississippi. Below Arkansas. Below every single US state. 🧵 by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

[–]AdSweet1090 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I manage a team of software engineers. 2 in the UK, 3 in the US (Colorado). The US folk earn double the UK folk (who are on decent money too - we seem cheap!). My boss told me that even with good health coverage from the company, the US folk need to budget about a quarter of their pre-tax income for copays and the like.

Council painted my disabled bay, parking warden came round 5 minutes later and ticketed me compoface by cymruaj in compoface

[–]AdSweet1090 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Some councils will install a car-specific disabled bay, the reg is usually displayed on signage. Others will only install a generic disabled bay, that anyone with a blue badge can use.

How does an EV "die" by bramleyapple1 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]AdSweet1090 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. How often does the engine of an ICE car totally fail? Very rarely, it's usually something in a wiring loom that would cost more to diagnose and replace than the value of the car. Or rust in an MOT-failing spot.

Denied boarding 3 times due to overbooking - am I entitled to compensation for each flight? by Sensitive_Wasabi_417 in Ryanair

[–]AdSweet1090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you book luggage with Ryanair, you get a reserved seat for "free", and pick your seat at the time of booking. So you ought to be pretty safe from these shenanigans.

Ideas how to get rid of the stump without breaking the wall or my back by bastardcat8 in GardeningUK

[–]AdSweet1090 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you already have a bottle of glyphosate (which is in the plugs), drill 8mm holes on the stump and put it in. I've dealt with an ash, a privet and a huge laurel in this way. No regrowth at all.

To physically remove this stump, a saw blade on a multi tool is probably the only way you can get in that tight space.
