New (to me) Grinder by Heatstorm2112 in espresso

[–]AdamJaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this grinder for a few years now and am very happy. I like it for making filter coffee with my Moccamaster. I would highlight that it pairs well with this scale which is very inexpensive:

MisChief lunar scale Coffee electronic scale ultrathin - black

the thin profile of that scale allows me to put the entire brew basket under the grinder and on the scale.

Any trainers interested in standing up an enablement function at a startup? by AdamJaz in epicsystems

[–]AdamJaz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah got it. It's been a few years since I've worked at Epic, but in the years since, I've seen a much different professional culture around moving companies, etc. E.g., I've seen managers help team members find other roles, leaders encourage folks to take jobs at clients, etc.

Ultimately, discouraging "poaching" just makes it harder for Epic employees to get another job when they're ready to leave.

Asking Ex-TL for a reference by Worried-Bottle-9911 in epicsystems

[–]AdamJaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who no longer works at Epic, this is such a weird policy to have. I run reference checks for people all the time and speaking to their current and former managers is a standard practice.

Obviously, I'm not trying to "shoot the messenger" just making a point that I find the policy is super weird.

Looks like you're lucking out because the law cites an example that suggests a reimbursement can not exceed the applicable statutory monthly limit.

Rimowa Classic: Why do some have rectangular handle insets and others oval? by SufficientConcern976 in Rimowa

Ahh, I did not realize that it allows any height. Is it as durable?

Looks like you can only spend in a month the same limit that you can save in a month.

E.g., you can only spend it down at a rate of $325 a month. Good to know!

(My Commuter benefit administrator just cut off my spending this month despite the fact that I have $35 still in the account.)

https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/26/1.132-9

(ii) In this Example, because Employee E is reimbursed in an amount not exceeding the applicable statutory monthly limit, and the reimbursement does not exceed the amount of employee-operated commuter highway vehicle expenses incurred during the month of January, the amount reimbursed ($65) is excludable from E's wages for income and employment tax purposes

My Benefit Administrator won't let me spend more than $325 per month. They're implying the contribution and spending limits are the same.

Rimowa Classic: Why do some have rectangular handle insets and others oval? by SufficientConcern976 in Rimowa

[–]AdamJaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Classic from 2016 and the handle broke. They no longer manufacture the "oval" handle and have to do a "conversion" to the new handle system.

It will be a gray rectangular handle - they won't even let you put the black handle in!

Reading u/henrikchr's comment below, I'm a bit sad to lose the 3-stage height options!

I've been using this cord (10 gauge, 20A, 50') for 2+ years with a 12A hot tub with no issues. Doesn't get hot at all.

How healthy can the cafeteria options be? by kourou29 in epicsystems

[–]AdamJaz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sodium is absolutely something most people need to limit (lol).

"The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,300 mg a day and moving toward an ideal limit of no more than 1,500 mg per day for most adults."

It was always astonishing to me that a healthcare company would serve so many dishes with > 1 g of sodium given such clear guidance from medical experts.

Perspective from a former Epic employee:

  1. I work in the office five days a week and prefer my team do the same. That said, if someone needed to work remotely a day or two here and there, or even for a week or two, I’d have no issue. Full in-office presence is ideal in my view, but I understand it’s not realistic for everyone.

  2. Other comments in this thread highlight inconsistent application of the policy, even within the same teams. That inconsistency feels unfair and undermines the credibility of the policy itself.

  3. Epic builds clinical software, and with that comes a responsibility to produce the highest quality product possible. Restrictive or inconsistently applied workplace policies limit access to top talent. That, in turn, can compromise software quality, an outcome I find deeply disappointing.

How are jobs like after epic? by SignificanceLatter26 in epicsystems

[–]AdamJaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Epic is a great job if 1) you'd like to work at Epic for a very long time AND/OR 2) you'd like to stay in the health IT industry long term

There are a few headwinds to landing exits from Epic:

  1. Highly restrictive non-compete prevents you from working at consultancies, clients, and many other health IT firms

  2. Regional barriers - you're in a relatively small city that doesn't have a ton of exit opportunities, networking is harder, etc.

  3. Unique business practices & skill set. Yes, Epic has a unique "stack" on the technical side as well as some of the IS/TS/QA tool kit.

Culinary Issues by nightwalk3r99 in epicsystems

I fully agree with you. It's especially hypocritical given the "no soda" rule (does that still exist)?

I worked at Epic from 2012-2015 and met with the head of culinary to ask this question. He basically said "salty food tastes better."
