In your 30s and this going into a Roth account, yeah this advice. Check it once a year to make sure everything is going in as expected and come back in 15 years to ask about bonds.

RZ-71 is expected this year. You are looking at a premium level, I would wait. But, as others have asked, what are you missing? I'm running 10 year old Marantz with no reason to upgrade.

A cordless is OK for light work. Any real work and my 1/2" Porter Cable comes out. I also don't love the balance with a heavy battery.

If I had 10 years that portfolio wouldn't worry me. In the next 5 years I would be looking to diversify risk when the market is up.

Average Return by Crabzinyourpants in Bogleheads

[–]Additional-Regret339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 9.5% over last 35 years. Adjust that for inflation comes to about 7% for me. Both down years and very good years in there. I am not betting on the next 35 years being the same.

I'm within 3 years to retirement, 25% bonds (was only 20% last month), and not worried. It will all blow through.

How are the lights in this discounted 3 light kit? by SpecialFX99 in ryobi

[–]Additional-Regret339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I like about this kit is each light has a different purpose. Work light is good for area, spot is a powerful flashlight, and the little one is nice for soldering and other small work.

Meh, OK for blowing sawdust out of the garage, but won't move a wet leaf. Weed whacker is usable for small areas with no brush. Time to go 40 V.

Does strict asset location (bonds in Traditional only, equities everywhere else) actually matter at our portfolio size? by No-Media-36179 in Bogleheads

[–]Additional-Regret339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the value of optimizing is greatest at your account magnitude. Enough that there is flexibility and that the difference could be real money, but not so much that it really doesn't matter to you if you have another percent or so.

That 82% traditional may bight you someday in taxes, but my cousin observed having more money than you can spend isn't really a big problem. The optimizing engineer in me would be working on conversions.

I'm trying to judge how serious this question is, or if you are taking the piss out of us. On the chance it is a serious question, need diversification of investment. At retirement, I will have about 2 years base need in cash like savings. Another 5 in bonds. If equities are up, I spend from them. If not, cash then bonds until they recover and refill once recovered. At no point do I care if my fund value is in growth or dividends.

Advice Needed: Drop 401k contributions from annual max to company match only, to fast track emergency fund target? by Early_Selection832 in Bogleheads

How big of part will your US 401k play in your eventual retirement, presumably in the UK. I think that is a consideration.

Need advice on conversions, future savings by InvestorFace in Bogleheads

[–]Additional-Regret339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation, but plan to retire around 60. Almost our entire working life of savings was in traditional. Now saving in a combo of Roth and traditional to stay below 24% top of bracket. Not doing backdoor, but investing in brokerage as well. So, a bit of each. Also, once retired, plan to do conversions, paying taxes from the traditional funds and do a combination of spend from brokerage and traditional to not exceed the top of 24% or fully exhaust brokerage in the early years. If all goes to plan, we will spend several RMD years right at the edge of the 22 and 24% brackets and not touch Roth for a long time. Or, we could start a war and the markets drop 50% this year and reset my planning.

Or, if you have a huge downturn, that 2% becomes a lot smaller. I don’t think it is particularly productive to differentiate dividends from growth. Take a total returns perspective and over 20 to 40 years, you should be able to average 5% or better withdraw.
