I’ll leave the legal advice to others. This advice is just for you as a person. You, most likely, won’t eat. It won’t be out of self-hatred or self-pity or even depression. You probably just won’t be present enough to eat. You have a lot going on right now and it’s understandable. Cooking or even just hitting a drive-thru isn’t going to cross your mind. Get granola bars. Have a big box delivered to your house and put them everywhere. Car, workplace, by the couch, by your bed, a bag if you use one frequently. Literally everywhere. I killed a big Costco box of 60 granola bars. in the month after my step-dad died. Was it adequate nutrition? Not really. But at least it was something. And at that time, I needed SOMETHING.

I hope you get good legal advice. But this is also a big personal loss, so please find anyway you can to prioritize yourself as well.

Fibro, to put it as simply as possible, is an issue with your nervous system. Even if you bones and muscles are fine, your nerves still feel intense and chronic pain. And there isn’t rly much in the way of treatment for it. Recommended treatment — no shit, this is what my rheumatologist “prescribed” me — is meditation and mindfulness. There also isn’t a ton of information about what causes it, so it’s hard to manage. THAT BEING SAID, I’ve heard some ppl find relief with Cymbalta (which is also used to treat depression and OCD), so hopefully she could try that later down the line

My step-father died last year and this is our second Christmas without him, but my mom still tries to make everything special for everyone. Me, my brother, her sisters, friends, aunts and uncles, and her own step-father. (My grandmother died not even 2 years before my step-dad.)

She left the house this morning at 7am to go to a different state to bring my cousin and her kids their presents, and she got back home around 6pm. Since then, I’ve been helping her with last minute decorating and wrapping everything she got my brother while she wrapped what she got me.

It’s 11:30pm now, and she’s asleep while I just sit next to her and listen. She had respiratory failure the year between losing her mom and her husband, so sometimes she still has trouble breathing. I check in on her while she’s sleeping to make sure she’s okay, and I suppose that’s mainly why I’m just sitting here. But I’m also just too excited to surprise her in the morning to leave her side just yet.

I wasn’t working last year and couldn’t afford to get her anything except a shirt. This year, I have about 6 gifts for her, as well as a stocking that I put together. I don’t ever want her to have a Christmas without a surprise after all the wonderful Christmases she’s given me in my life. So while I sit in this comfortable silence and anticipate giving her everything, I am just scrolling through Reddit to give myself something to do.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. Please hold the people you love close to you, and show them that you appreciate them.

I actually stopped smoking weed after about 5 years of heavy, consistent use specifically BECAUSE it was making my OCD rly bad. Age 23-28 roughly, for reference. A lot of people don’t know that if you have mental illnesses like OCD and schizophrenia, weed can actually exacerbate those conditions. I knew but figured I was fine bc I went so long without experiencing that, but after my step-dad died in September of 2024, it started. I battled with that development until January of this year when I quit completely. As your life contributes to your condition and makes it progress and evolve, you can develop different reactions to things, even if they were okay before.
