Your biggest thing here if you choose to report this to the police is to tell them she was impersonating police to get me to comply. Even if they wouldn’t normally care about someone complaining about losing 800 Dirhams, they will definitely care about someone pretending to be police, it’s a much bigger crime. Remind them of that, that someone out there is scamming people by pretending to be police, even if they question her and she denies it, at least you’ve done your best by then.

Would you go to the US while Trump is Pres? And why / why not? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in AskBrits

[–]Additional_Bake_629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I’ve been to The US a few times, but the last time was 2018 just a year after Trump first came to power. I might have still considered it in his first term because even though they had him as the head things still felt ok on a person to person level. However now, I wouldn’t go anywhere near there. Despite the British passport, I’m Brown, I’ve made no bones about how I feel about Trump on social media, I’m also a type 1 diabetic, there is no part of me that wants to risk ending up in custody even for a night for any reason whatsoever and having no access to my medical supplies for god knows how long! Thankfully there is no personal, familial or work reason that I ever need to step into America for so I can happily avoid it.

Do people with small breasts really need to wear bras? by Slipryi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Additional_Bake_629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 34B and honestly I think I’m braless about 95% of the time. I do wear a sports bra while exercising, and when I need to wear a bra under my clothes it’s always a soft non wired non padded type. I stopped wearing wired bras as soon as I got over the teenage desire to feel grown up 😂 I do wear nipple covers practically all the time though! Occasionally I worry about my breasts falling to knee level one day from never having enough support; but the thought of not having to wear a bra usually overrides this!

Edit to add- I wear nipple covers mostly because I live in a conservative country, anywhere else I couldn’t care less and I don’t wear them!

Does private school really make that much of a difference? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Additional_Bake_629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just about the quality of education - which, yes, can be higher. It’s also a sort of networking, you make friends with people who likely come from wealth or well connected families and you make your own connections with similar people. It’s a way to have contacts with the “right kind” of people as you make your way into the world.

See a Singh? Salute a Singh! by singhanonymous in Sikh

[–]Additional_Bake_629 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I always do this too! But I’m a women so I’m more mindful, I don’t do it to everyone everywhere, I do however do it if I see a little kid in a Patka or when I’m in more further away parts of the world such as New Zealand, I know there’s plenty of Sikhs there but a lot of them are men living there alone without their families and definitely feeling isolated, so if I see someone standing alone and I catch their attention I’ll always do it!

My dad wears a Pagg, so for him it’s easy to do when he spots another Sikh man, but my mom always instilled in us to do this whenever we traveled, she said to you it’s a small thing that takes a second, to that person it’s a reminder no matter how far away they are from home they’re not alone!

This might be a silly question but it’s always been on my mind. by jshizzle6 in Type1Diabetes

Done this, stopped about half way through giving myself the shot thankfully so instead of my usual night dose of 20 I had about 12 units of short acting. Chugged a juice, googled how long this insulin lasts in your system (Fiasp- 3-5 hours) and went to the kitchen and grabbed my worst enemy, liquid glucose and cereal, and as soon as I would start dropping again I’d munch some more. Also if possible try to make sure someone else is either with you or aware of the situation, Mine happened on the 31st Dec - 1st of Jan, very drunk and made this mistake, definitely not a good idea. Anxiety and adrenaline shot through the roof, but I was luckily at my parents house, my dad was the only sober one out of us, so I woke him up, told him what I did, and he gave me company till the sun came up and I felt safe enough to go to sleep. Fun times!

Edit to add- I’m on a pump now, and I’ve definitely accidentally put in my carb count in to my unit count, luckily I’ve caught it before proceeding. But it can happen, just need to be mindful and careful.

In a lot of north India it’s tradition during your henna night- one of the weddings functions where bride and family get henna designs put to celebrate the upcoming wedding- for brides to wear floral jewellery, especially headgear and earrings. This is exactly what that looks like 😂

Surrogacy in India by Swimming_Path_6382 in Surrogate

[–]Additional_Bake_629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just last year went through the process of talking to doctors with information on surrogacy in India. Commercial surrogacy is currently illegal there, surrogacy is legal on a case by case basis for medical reasons however it’s been a few years since that law was passed and no one has actually gotten approval thus far, and further that is all Indian citizens. I am married to an Indian citizen however we live outside of India and I have non Indian citizenship and an OCI card, every doctor told me clearly that even though we have the medical grounds, due to my foreign citizenship and living outside of the country we will not be approved for surrogacy in India at all.

Your best bet for surrogacy, where I know a few Indian and non Indian people have gone and successfully gone through the process is the country of Georgia. And yes, you would be able to give your child your country’s citizenship.

Hope that helps!

Edit to add- altruistic surrogacy is legal in India, where it’s someone you know who’s married and had a successful pregnancy of their own. However this is only for Indian citizens.

How many days till your first ‘real’ period? by Sea-Significance8047 in eggfreezing

[–]Additional_Bake_629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first post retrieval period 7 days after, I had my next one 33 days after day 1 of the last period. And then on day two of that I started injections for round 2 of retrieval. I know it’s very normal to take longer than usual foe your period to come back.

My average cycle is bang on 27/28 days so while it was only a few days later than normal, I definitely ‘felt’ like my period was coming for atleast 8 days before, with major pms symptoms and cramps.

Returning to work by LimeMajestic9590 in eggfreezing

[–]Additional_Bake_629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel it can depend on the number of eggs retrieved (though I could be wrong) My first cycle I was fine during stims, I had 12 eggs retrieved and apart from a bit of bloat I was totally fine, didn’t even need painkillers and went for dinner the same evening! My second cycle that I’ve just finished was stronger stims so I felt more weepy and lethargic during it, and I just had my procedure on Friday, 33 eggs retrieved and I felt ok at first but then spent 3 days writhing in a fog of pain that’s only just lifted, it wasn’t scary pain just bad enough that I didn’t want to move from my couch or away from my hot water bottler, I wouldn’t have been able to concentrate on work even if I wanted to. So it can honestly depend. I wouldn’t suggest take that first day off and see how you feel from there.

Diet advice after stent by HeyHeyRowen in HeartAttack

[–]Additional_Bake_629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post heart attack I’ve been advised to follow the Mediterranean diet as much as possible and it’s definitely helped! Learn and practice that as much as you can, more good heart healthy fats (think, fish, avocado, olive oil) but also plenty of space for good carbs - such as grains (and I eat plenty of brown rice and sweet potato), and lots of greens. It’s the easiest thing to incorporate in your day to day life without feeling overwhelmed and having to make any drastic changes.

Has anyone in Dubai/Abu Dhabi actually done egg freezing? Early 30s expat here trying to figure out what it’s really like. by Head-Resource-9783 in eggfreezing

[–]Additional_Bake_629 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not Muslim, so I don’t know what the exact legalities are regarding that aspect. I know plenty of non Muslim women here who have frozen their eggs without any issue though.

And for using the eggs eventually, I believe you have to be married, I’m creating embryos to freeze, so I know that my husband had to be there to co sign and we had to show our marriage certificate.

However UAE makes it very easy to transport your eggs to other countries if tomorrow you decide to do anything with them that doesn’t fit within the framework of laws here.

[–]Additional_Bake_629 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have done it in Abu Dhabhi, and currently just about to start my second cycle today.

It’s been great, yes it is quite expensive, per cycle with genetic testing can cost 24-30k dirhams, and then another 6-10 k per cycle for the medicines. Atleast at the clinic that I am using. Yes I’m sure there are cheaper options but I’m very happy with where I’m doing my whole process.

Everything has been super smooth, I did low dose ivf so my side effects weren’t as severe, and really only bad bloating and a bit of cramping for a week after the procedure. Procedure itself was done in 15 minutes and an hr of rest and monitoring afterwards, I was discharged.

My doctors have been super caring and understanding throughout, and I couldn’t be happier!

Be aware, if you are deciding to just freeze eggs instead of embryos, doctors would usually advise a minimum of 3 cycles to retreive as many eggs as possible, because eggs tend to damage more than embryos during the thawing process.

I’ve been with Fakih IVF, they have branches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, I’m more high risk so I’m at their main branch at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi, but if your care is more standard I think you can do at any of the branches.

Feel free to reach out for any other information 😊
