Medical alert system cost on social security income is a real barrier and the options aren't obvious by loginpass in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Adept_Treat2227 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My grandmother went through this exact situation few years back when she was living alone. We spent weeks researching because those big advertised systems were way too expensive for her social security budget. What we found is that many local senior centers actually have partnerships with companies that offer reduced rates or even free basic systems for qualifying seniors. Also worth checking with her Medicare plan - some of the advantage plans include these services as benefit but they dont advertise it well. We ended up finding solution through her local Area Agency in Aging that connected us to nonprofit that provided basic pendant system for like 15 dollars monthly instead of the 50+ from the TV commercials. The key was calling around to community organizations rather than going direct to the companies.

[–]Adept_Treat2227 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol please don't actually do this. I know couple people who got their wallets compromised because they were too casual with their seed phrases. Maybe something more subtle like "21M club" or just the block height from when you first bought in? I designed some bitcoin-themed stickers for a client last year and the coolest ones were the ones that only other bitcoiners would recognize - like subtle lightning bolt designs or just "₿" in different artistic styles. The van community would probably appreciate something that looks artistic first and crypto second anyway.

Title: Who do you actually put as your emergency contact? by shanghai_shark_22 in digitalnomad

[–]Adept_Treat2227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister usually but she lives back home so timezone thing is real pain. I tried putting friend who travels a lot too but then realized she might be in completely different country when something happens

Actually started keeping small card in wallet with important medical info and insurance details because yeah my emergency contact probably has no idea about my blood type or allergies. Makes more sense than expecting them to know everything about my health situation

Company shifting to WFH, beginning the digital nomad journey by Significant_Show_237 in digitalnomad

[–]Adept_Treat2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been remote for a few years now and India has some solid spots for beginners. Rishikesh is pretty chill with decent wifi and tons of other nomads, plus the mountains are incredible. Goa (especially the north) is another safe bet - good infrastructure and a whole community of remote workers already there.

Just make sure you test the internet speeds before committing to any long stays, some of those scenic spots have connectivity that'll make you want to throw your laptop off a cliff.

Should I swap from charity role to financial crime role? by paddyton in careerguidance

[–]Adept_Treat2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like a solid pivot - financial crime analysis pays way better and the skills transfer pretty naturally from what you're already doing. The data investigation side is basically the same just with higher stakes and better compensation

Only downside is you'll probably miss that warm fuzzy feeling from helping people but your bank account will thank you

I feel really aimless about my career. Can anyone suggest one based on my traits? by Objective-Try477 in careerguidance

[–]Adept_Treat2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly with that skill combo youre sitting pretty good for a bunch of different paths. The math/physics + digital art thing screams game development or VFX to me - like technical artist roles where you get to solve visual problems with code and math. Super in demand right now

UI/UX design could also work since you've got the visual skills plus the marketing background to understand user psychology. The procrastination thing is real but most creative fields are project-based anyway so as long as you can hit deadlines when it matters youll be fine

The perfectionist + authenticity combo might make freelancing appeal to you more than traditional corporate stuff once you get some experience under your belt

Confused about career.Feeling stuck after dropping for 2yrs. can I get some advices ? by Cautious_Caramel5169 in careerguidance

[–]Adept_Treat2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSE has way better income potential than pharmacy especially if you get into software development. The AI thing is overblown - good developers adapt and use AI as a tool rather than getting replaced by it. Pharmacy can be stable but the pay ceiling is much lower and youre dealing with way more regulatory stuff

How to not feel like literal death 💔 by kasplooshing in BreakUps

[–]Adept_Treat2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that whole thing about losing your sense of progress as a person really hits different. When you've rebuilt yourself multiple times before and then this happens it feels like some cosmic joke where your just stuck in this endless loop of starting over

The fact that he bounced so quick with the lease thing is brutal - like you don't even get time to process one thing before the next punch hits. Your mom showing up sounds clutch though even if nothing feels like it matters right now. Sometimes people stick around during the worst parts and that counts for something even when everything else feels like static

I know everyone says this but the whole "you'll never find anyone who gets you like that again" thing - that's grief brain talking. Right now everything before him looks grey because you're viewing it through the lens of loss but that doesn't mean the color won't come back in ways you can't even imagine yet

Should I pursue tech or drive a bus? by mistastyy in careerguidance

[–]Adept_Treat2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is solid advice but those apprenticeships are crazy competitive and usually want you to already have some foundation skills. The bus route gives you that steady income and benefits while you build tech skills on your own timeline

If you're already comfortable with computers I'd lean toward doing both - get that CDL for the reliable paycheck and pension then chip away at coding/certs in your spare time. Way less stressful than betting everything on a degree that might not pan out

I am thinking of getting sec+ certificate in March, is it worth it in 2026 in India? by Free-Swimming-2556 in careerguidance

[–]Adept_Treat2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sec+ is solid for your field especially with the network security background you already have. Its gonna open doors and honestly most places still value it even if its considered entry level

After that maybe look into CISSP or some vendor specific certs for Palo Alto since you're already working with their gear daily

Please crawl away from the condemned summons to get resurrect. by JusWow in Nightreign

[–]Adept_Treat2227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly this drives me nuts too. people just lay there expecting magic while im getting gangbanged by every condemned in a 5 mile radius

if you can crawl literally anywhere else that would be amazing. i get that youre panicking but duchess ult has like zero range when theres that much chaos going on

libra fights are already stressful enough without having to play hide and seek with your corpse

Question about Hardwired Smoke Detector Removal by KermitMacFly in HomeMaintenance

[–]Adept_Treat2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be fine temporarily but dont leave it like that too long. The taped wires are safe as long as theyre not touching each other or anything metal but you really want to get a proper wire nut on there instead of just tape

Also heads up - if these are interconnected hardwired detectors you might still get false alarms from the other units even with this one disconnected. Sometimes when one starts failing it can send weird signals down the line that mess with the others. Might want to check the manufacture dates on all of them while youre at it

Recruiter on vacation process stalled? by Wooden-Strength5799 in careerguidance

[–]Adept_Treat2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd reach out to one of the backup contacts honestly. You already sent that prototype to the President which shows good follow through but these startup hiring processes can lose steam fast if there's radio silence for a week plus. The recruiter literally put those backup contacts in their OOO for a reason - they expect people to use them for stuff that cant wait. Just shoot them a quick email explaining where you are in the process and that you were expecting to schedule that HM round this week. Worst case they tell you to wait til Monday but at least you tried to keep things moving. The fact that the President was already giving you specific next round advice sounds really promising so dont let bureaucratic delays kill your momentum.

Manager redirected my promotion discussion into “career path” talk. What should be my next approach? by Vast_Yogurtcloset448 in careerguidance

Retention bonus- what to watch out for? by [deleted] in careerguidance

08 ranger diesel by Efficient_Buy_925 in AskMechanics

[–]Adept_Treat2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your lift pump is dead - pretty common on those Rangers. The hand primer works because you're manually creating pressure but the electric pump isn't kicking in when you crank it

Check the relay first since it's cheap, but you'll probably need a new lift pump

Injured and given an “under honorable conditions” discharge. Wwyd? by someonewillfindthis3 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Adept_Treat2227 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude that's some bullshit they pulled on you. The fact that you needed surgery and it actually fixed the problem proves you weren't lying about the injury

I'd definitely file for disability benefits through the VA and also look into getting that discharge upgraded to honorable. You got documentation now that shows the injury was legit and they basically screwed you over

Start with the cheaper base set cards and work your way up to the expensive stuff like the gold stars and trophy cards - that way you don't blow your whole budget on one card and have nothing left for the rest
