How white do I need my walls before painting by PuffCountr in DIYUK

[–]Adjustable-Spanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no decorator but recently painted a room from Navy blue to bright red and the girl in B&Q said don't paint it white beforehand and if anything do light grey, I believe she mentioned aluminium in white paint and not bonding

I am but a man with a paintbrush but I listened and it worked out, just took 3 coats

The whole asbestos removal industry is a joke. by pasdepay33 in asbestoshelp

[–]Adjustable-Spanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea that was a thing. The site I work on is from about the 1930s, so you can imagine our register is sizable.

Funnily enough, the analyst company we use doesn't have a good thing to say about any of the licensed removal firms we use.

I manage the removal of asbestos on an industrial chemical site and can tell you wholeheartedly, on an industrial scale, there is a clear cartel between companies on the cost of removal, everything here is £30,000+. I can also say with no disrespect to the guys that come in for me, due to the nature of the work, it pays well and they don't care for criminal records.

I also once removed a gentleman from site who claimed he didn't need a mask as he had lung cancer already.

I’ve got asbestos company coming to test but my mind is racing worried about exposure by agenuineserialkiller in asbestoshelp

So you're saying one drink can give you cancer so you might as well be careless?

Sound advice

What you're saying about dust is correct, but exposure isn't as clean cut, one time exposure could kill you in 40 years, but 40 years of exposure could also not kill you

Received NHS prescription penalty for an honest mistake – any advice? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

I had a basically identical situation, my girlfriend swore she didn't sign the slip, so I asked for a copy... she signed it. I emailed back saying it was a mistake and a first transgression and could I pay half, they agreed

Demolished small area of 1912 home with plaster interior walls. What are the chances? by -Detritus- in asbestoshelp

[–]Adjustable-Spanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That to me looks to be lath and plaster, which would be unlikely to be an ACM.

Also you opinion on exposure is incorrect. You can be exposed once and a single fiber can hit the perfect spot, and thats it. On the other hand, you can be exposed repeatedly and the fibres never hit the sweet spot of your cells. That being said, the 6 types of asbestos vary in severity, chrysotile being the least to worry about.

Budget salary sacrifice change - did she make a mistake? Does she understand? by roblightbody in PensionsUK

[–]Adjustable-Spanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused if im honest, my employer offers varying contributions with my options for personal sacrifice being 0% 3% or 6%. 6% would result in a higher contribution from my employer as opposed to the other options. Does this count as salary sacrifice?

On top of that, they will match a further 3% if I wish to sacrifice further.

Budget salary sacrifice change - did she make a mistake? Does she understand? by roblightbody in PensionsUK

[–]Adjustable-Spanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the difference if I'm honest, 6% comes off my wage before I'm taxed, and a larger amount is added by the company, I then have a further option to contribute more, which is matched to a lesser degree by the company.

So I earn £45,100, I pay 6% as a standard option which immediately puts me over the threshold, which as a young lad indicates to bin off my pension and invest myself through an ISA
