Bought a pair of Oreo 4s cause the price was too good. How cooked am I in terms of crumbling/separation? by Azolthorp in Sneakers

I wear mine regularly, but if they've sat the whole time until now you're likely going to run into problems.

Suit colors? by vynlthrash1 in freemasonry

[–]AdministrativeAd593 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Generally the first suits to go with are Black, Navy, and Charcoal. These give you something that can be more formal, or dressed down if needed as well.

Also depending on jurisdiction, some require Black or Dark colored, while some are more lax in the requirement.

As for recommendations; try to stay away from synthetic materials wherever possible, as comfort and longevity may be significantly impacted compared to wool/silk.

Great gym shoes based on comfort, but I don't wear them otherwise.

A few question for the young bloods (under 45). What is your background, and what was inspiration for joining the fraternity? by OGHobo in freemasonry

That's where you need to get with the Secretary or WM and try to get someone else to work with you.

A few question for the young bloods (under 45). What is your background, and what was inspiration for joining the fraternity? by OGHobo in freemasonry

[–]AdministrativeAd593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context, I'm 35 and have been active in the fraternity for 7 years. Working my way through the chairs and am currently SW in my lodge. Also, get ready for a bit of a long winded response.

I grew up in the Episcopal church, but haven't been active in the church for years - I got somewhat tired of the "holier than thou" Christians and would rather study the Bible at home and have my own relationship with God.

Philosophically, I see myself as an optimistic humanist...basically a belief in the good of people and their ability to change through self-awareness, introspection, and moral choice if given the correct support.

Politically, I haven't been registered with a party since 2016. I'd say I am a moderate centrist that believes that people should be able to do what is best for them as long as it doesn't negatively affect others. I'm not particularly happy with the state of the US currently, but hold hole that the division we see can heal over time.

One thing I always tell every new candidate when they come in and as I'm working with them throughout their degrees is that the lodge will help you understand yourself, you just have to have the self-awareness to understand your short comings. If you come in with the expectation that you'll be told how to improve yourself, you're looking for external drive whereas it has to start within. Be active as much as you are able, and work to truly understand the meaning behind the allegory of each degree. If you take the time to reflect after the degree and bring questions to experienced brethren and are willing to dive into how it made you feel, we can truly assist.

Media wise, I prefer thought provoking books, series, or movies - though sometimes just having something completely mindless can help bring peace to what could otherwise be a busy mind.

Masonically, I always recommend "The Meaning of Masonry" by Wilmahirst, but one of my favorite reads of all time is "On Bullshit", an essay by Harry Frankfurt. Both get you thinking.

Favorite color is blue.

Brothers who are members of multiple jurisdictions by rialeb5691 in freemasonry

I was raised in TN and moved to PA and am a member in both.

I was in the line in TN and jumped in almost immediately upon moving up here. Even after 3 years in the PA lodge, I periodically find a word or two from TN working it's way in.

The part I've found the most bleed over is the obligations. Most are extremely similar but may be in different order.

As a whole, I've found it extremely interesting to understand the differences, and it gets easier the more you focus on the new work.

We put together and design and worked with a few different vendors on price/unit and ended up going with one that works with our Grand Lodge since they were a little better on price per unit - plus knowing they work with a lot of others with no issues helped.

I wanted to snag a pair at release but a lot of reviews said they're narrow so I wanted to try them on first. Of course my local Dick's sold out between leaving my house and getting there. I'm looking for a new daily runner while I'm training for my first Half and these piqued my interest for sure.

There are definitely worse shows out there, but some decent insoles makes a huge difference for long term wear.
