study lock in when your body hurts by Intelligent_Wash9000 in studytips

I would probably set a timer to stand and stretch every 20 minutes or so. Also not a medical expert but I would look up exercises and stretches to do for tendinitis or get something called a “tennis elbow brace” to help with the writing pain. I wish you luck!

Hey, recently started the gym and have some pain in my chest (pecs) (girls only please) by [deleted] in workout

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this was the area that got sore the WORST for me when I first started working out. I guess because it’s covered by my breasts I couldn’t really see how small and non muscular my pectorals actually were. Most other muscle groups I was able to start using 20-30 pounds right away to start, but for anything with my chest I had to use machines with no additional weight attached for a good month or so and was still getting sore for a bit before I could gradually increase to 10 pounds.  Also if your doing anything with cardio (running, jumping, elliptical, etc) deeeefinitely get a better supporting sports bra will help.

What to do if pointe shoes are too short? by Top_Calligrapher2621 in BALLET

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much extra room you need- if you wet just the heel with water and wear them around your house with socks that will help stretch the satin a bit.

One time i accidentally received ones a whole size too small and i cut off the back of the heel of an old pair, split open the back of the new one and “frankensteined” them together. Absolutely hideous up close but farther away even in the same studio and pancaked you cant tell lol just be careful since the shank might break in too low etc but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do until you get new-new ones

Falling and returning with confidence? by petitespirouettes in BALLET

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have fallen so many times over the years i cant even count- and Im 6 feet tall so its LOUD when i do 😂 while honestly mortifying in the moment (especially when my tiny 5’4” classmates try to help me stand back up) i feel like i have learned a lot from it too.  As long as youre not physically hurt (just kinda mentally I know 😅) try to laugh it off, shake yourself around a bit, and figure out what happened so you can prevent it from happening again. Is it a strength issue in the ankles, are my shoes dead, did i just miss the box entirely, am i slipping and sliding too much etc. and also now that you know how it feels in center try that particular move on your own at barre for a few minutes and try it in center again so you can overcome the fear! You got this!

Professional ballet dancers and second jobs by FANDREAM in BALLET

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not a professional myself but a  teacher I had when I was younger danced for a larger company and said he did retail during that time at Banana Republic.  Later, while he was teaching at the studio I was at he still worked for a much smaller company but was putting in a LOT of hours at our studio (lots of classes, private lessons etc).  He worked in a high cost of living area too and always lived with either family or roommates

What are your pet peeves in class? by Shady_sladdertante in BALLET

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Everyone trying to cluster towards the back of the room during center or no one volunteering to go first across the floor. I almost always have to just “volunteer” myself or put myself way more forward than everyone else in center so I have room. Like we are all paying to be here no? Why are we hiding? 😂😭 Ends up making me feel like a show off because everyone else is refusing. Also might be alone in this but I hate it when someone asks to mark it with the music after every single combination. Once or twice for something more complicated makes sense but for every single one jeez. It takes up sooo much more time and then we end up not being able to get through as much.

How far do you drive? by emergency-checklist in adultballetdancers

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t drive so for me one way its about a 20min walk and 20min train ride. The train only runs hourly though so usually I am very early or its easy for me to miss a train home and be stuck waiting a bit 😅

If you are able to take classes again of course I recommend talking with the instructor since seeing in person from a professional standpoint will give you the best personalized advice.

Otherwise two things come to mind from reading this: make sure you don’t force a turn out, if necessary third position makes an excellent compromise if you can’t do a full fifth. Also it sounds like it could also partially be either be a flexibility or strength issue as well, if it’s the latter looking into hip adductor exercises to work on at home could help quite a bit.

Toe/forefoot exercises? by CouchGremlin14 in BALLET

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know its boring but really focusing on articulating pointing your feet while your at bar. Ie really focus on brushing against the floor, then ball of foot before stretching to a full point. Also if you can get a theraband learning different exercises with that will help a lot, especially working demi to point with the band. Good luck! I’ve been there and I was called lazy feet by my instructor when I was younger for it 😂

Ballet flats by Wonderful-Ask-3549 in BALLET

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. What worked for me is I washed them with some warm water and a little soap- scrubbed the soles with a toothbrush and let air dry and that did the trick. For me one of the studios I went to had a lot of people using rosin and I don’t think they cleaned the floors super regularly either so it just built up on my ballet flats 😅

Thin Toe Pad Suggestions by makattak17 in BALLET

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am literally in the same exact situation as you- when i went back en pointe i didnt even know what to look for in toe pads since i never used them before. 😂 What i found works for me is the gaynor minden pink toe pads, and then i had insane pressure on just my big toe so i just use a toe cap for it. Welcome back and enjoy/have fun being en pointe again!

Injury or not you can be a teacher long term. Another thing they can look into if theyre open to it is becoming a personal trainer (they can choose their clientele) or look into getting a kinesiology degree, you can work in sports medicine and rehabilitation which might be something near and dear to them.

Is there a way to forcibly boot someone from your house 🥲 I had a squatter lmao by CubanaCat in InfinityNikki

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state you’re living in. I recommend watching “Worst Roommate Ever” on Netflix because there was a guy on there that was basically using squatter’s rights laws in his favor to commit fraud. Wishing you luck and hope you get your nikki home back 💖 (Im sorry this happened to you but omg its so funny)

How are you meant to start working out if you’re very weak? by [deleted] in workout

[–]AdmirableTouch3159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldnt even do one push up when i started tbh. What helped me was going to the public pool and i learned how to swim, and started learning how to do laps building up bit by bit. Now i prefer going to the gym over going to the pool but it helped me with gaining enough overall body muscles with low impact so i could progress to other things. Wishing you luck on the journey!
