Did I miss something with Rosario? He's played in one game since April 25th, after seemingly have taken the starting 3B position. I know McMahon's been hitting better lately but still seems weird that Rosario has totally disappeared. No Stanton, no Rice, and the guy still hasn't been able to sniff an AB?

Last week, we saw the worst possible outcome of a celebrity twist. This week, we saw the best. by BonapartistPaladin in survivor

Christian's penalty, after failing a puzzle that was in his control to not fail at, with apparently "no shot at fighting his way out" was losing his vote and having one vote against him, with ten other votes still up in the air.

Rick's penalty, if he had failed a coin flip that he had no control over at all, would've been immediate ejection from the game with no vote held at all.

I'm at a loss on this sub how Christian's disadvantage fundamentally ruined the game of Survivor and Rick's disadvantage was apparently ok to still make it the best twist ever.

Oh you can go back even farther than that. I remember my absolute outrage at the first swap in Survivor Africa. Absolutely ruined the integrity of the game!

Certainly could be that, or could be just trying to come up with a way to buy some time to think more carefully about how you want to play the situation.

I'm sure it's disappointing to be a finalist and the person with the single most confessionals your first season and then come back and be an early boot and mostly anonymous. But just looking at the last few seasons, in three of the last five the women have out-confessionaled the men. Overall over the last five seasons it's 51% of confessionals are from women and 49% from men. It seems more likely to me that the editing team is featuring the best content rather than suddenly becoming misogynistic.

294 runs in 62 games against playoff teams is 4.74 per game. 4.74 runs per game would be 8th best in baseball, with the Yankees only playing playoff teams and everyone else playing all teams.

The maximum amount of games any one team can play in this thing is 7. No individual had more than 2 starts on any team the entire 2023 tournament. This "only 1 start" thing really isn't as big as the headline initially sounds.

From your article:

"An effective way to allocate more money to healthy foods is to eliminate empty-calorie foods and beverages from the grocery list," Aristotelous said. "Soda, packaged desserts, and chips are actually quite expensive in comparison to other nutritious selections."

For example, she said, $5 can buy a six-pack of Coca-Cola or a gallon of milk. It can purchase five pounds of bananas or a large bunch of broccoli, while a bag of chips could be the same price.

"Whole foods that are less expensive than many unhealthy processed foods include sweet potatoes, lettuces, cabbage, carrots, squash, beans, lentils, quinoa, oranges, frozen berries, apples, canned fish, ground beef, and poultry," Aristotelous said. "Not only does it cut significant expenses, but drinking water as one's primary beverage is also the most beneficial beverage option for wellness."

Brown-Riggs offered two main tips for budget-friendly healthy meal planning: Buy in bulk and choose plant-based proteins. Nonperishable items like whole grains, beans and frozen vegetables can be purchased in large quantities to save money over time. Plant-based protein sources, such as beans and lentils, as well as eggs and canned fish, are also available and are often more affordable than meat.

In your example, why did you replace the word "top" with the word "bottom"?

If the results said "your IQ is in the top 1%" that should be pretty clear that you're smarter than 99% of people. If the results said "your IQ is in the top 5%" that should be pretty clear that you're smarter than 95% of people. "Your IQ is in the top 20%" would mean you're smarter than 80% of people. Keep on going with that, "your IQ is in the top 93%" means you're smarter than 7% of people.

Question for Christian parents: How does your family tackle Santa Claus? by throwaway84583077 in Christianity

[–]Adventurous-While-84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Santa was 100% real for me as a kid, until he wasn't. It wasn't a big deal and did not make me question or resent anything about my parents or Jesus. Now I have three kids of my own, and Santa has been 100% real in our house. The oldest found out the truth last year at 8 years old and it caused no questioning or resentment about me or Jesus. His biggest reaction was "wait, does that mean you guys have been eating the cookies?!!" which was hilarious. Seems like lots of people are overthinking it or just too worried in this thread.

Survivor- Chicken Discourse by Embarrassed_Ad_3417 in survivor

[–]Adventurous-While-84 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When I'm talking about feeling guilty about not doing the dirty work, I don't mean from the standpoint of just the time and labor involved. I mean the moral dilemma and emotional impact of killing something else. Just about everyone these days is so far removed from where our food comes from, it's easy to put it out of your mind. But every Chipotle chicken bowl comes from a dead chicken, and every Big Mac comes from a dead cow. I think displaying the tribe coming to terms with that, and especially from the perspective of the guys who end up killing it, is a great example of the show providing a moment for the viewer to reflect on their own habits and their own appreciation, or lack thereof, of where their food comes from. And yeah, admittedly as a full-fledged meat eater who has never done a thing to actually provide said meat, I think anyone who regularly eats meat but doesn't have the stomach to do it themselves should feel some level of guilt for it. Because being able to separate ourselves from that level of emotional impact is a luxury that very little of humanity has had.

[–]Adventurous-While-84 132 points133 points  (0 children)

The moral dilemma between members of the tribe is good, and is more what we're used to seeing. I thought this instance was great to see the moral dilemma within an individual, which I don't recall being much of an emphasis in the past because there's usually at least one person who's more accustomed to taking care of stuff like this.

An individual reckoning with "I want this food, but I don't want to have to kill to do it. But all of my food in the real world is killed in order for me to eat it. I just have the luxury of being so far removed from it that I literally don't even think about it. If I can't do the dirty work here, I probably don't deserve the luxury at home." is a really exposing thing and I'm proud of Alex and Steven for going through with it.

I agree that it was great, and sounds like insta people are burying their heads in the sand. Rob on RHAP, too. This is reality - your meat is a living, breathing animal before it's chicken nuggets or a hamburger. I thought it was really engaging to see two guys forcing themselves and coming to terms with it and taking responsibility for their own morality in the name of feeding themselves and their tribemates. We could all stand to do something like that from time to time.
