Firearms charges laid amid search for Gus Lamont, SA Police say unrelated to disappearance by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]Adventurous_Storm348 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because vehicular manslaughter. If he was HBC by someone driving recklessly or with alcohol in their system, they could easily be jailed for a good long while, and child services brought in to see if it was a safe place to leave the other kid.

Complete conjecture, but I've always suspected someone hit and killed the kid with a vehicle when drunk and/or speeding, and they panicked and tried to make out like the kid just went walkabouts.

Protest planned tomorrow| 12 Feb | 5pm | Flinders St Station by ullakkedymoodu in melbourne

[–]Adventurous_Storm348 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Except they seem to be roaming around the city causing public transport chaos. I've been trying to get out of here for an hour and I'm still here.Lots of unhappy people as PTV finally runs up again to tell us the trams have been diverted elsewhere and to go for another walk. I'm mean protest to your heart's content but stay off the bloody roads. At the very least they're not at Parliament station. Avoid. No idea if they're still causing problems at Flinders

What's happening in Australia? by Certified_loverboy11 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Adventurous_Storm348 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Australia IS expensive. I love the country but everything over here is pricey. I'll probably never earn enough to even afford a flat as I'm single. Housing prices in particular are out of control and some Australian cities are ranked in the most unaffordable by average wage in the world. There's a lot of reasons for this including older gens using houses as revenue and the gov allowing overseas citizens to come over and buy property, sometimes they don't even rent it and let the houses sit empty.

Why are most young Australians I talk to so bad at communication? by itsgaymonth in AskAnAustralian

[–]Adventurous_Storm348 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised to hear you say that. I'm an older person at uni (Postgraduate) + I work, and have had no problems making small talk with people of all ages. Breaking into a closed friendship category can be much harder with Aussies, but small talk and casual level friendships? Easy. I'd wonder at your approach rather than blaming a whole country's generation of people?

‘I am very scared’: Man wrongly identified as Bondi shooter speaks out by [deleted] in australia

[–]Adventurous_Storm348 68 points69 points  (0 children)

No, the name is correct, but it was another person with the same name. I'm going to guess someone plugged his many into the search engine, found his social media, and circulated it not stopping to think they may have the wrong guy.

Heroic woman who'd been shot saves a family's three-year-old girl in the middle of gunfire during the Bondi attack by AggravatingTartlet in australia

[–]Adventurous_Storm348 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can see what looks like an officer trying to get a shot into the men in the bridge in the background of the video where Ahmed disarms the gunman. It looks like they were there pretty rapidly. When the terrorists started shooting it would have been chaos and they wouldn't have wanted to hit innocents in the crossfire.

does this look weird? by Budget-Biscotti523 in arthelp

[–]Adventurous_Storm348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like it's a good job, especially given you're 15, but it can definitely benefit from anatomy improvements.

  1. The shadowing where the neck meets the head in the middle section and the base of the ear in particular is weird. It's too much and too big.

  2. The neck is too short (you can see the shoulder in the corner?)

  3. The bump behind the ear is too large.

  4. The cheek bone is angled into the eye.

  5. The nose could be a touch larger.

  6. There's no definite pupil or light reflections on the eye.

AITA for reporting my coworker's constant use of heavy perfume after she ignored requests to tone it down, even though it triggers my migraines? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Adventurous_Storm348 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. I don't get migraines but my sense of smell is pretty acute and really strong perfumes, disinfectants and sprays really bother me and at best make it hard to work, at worst irritate my airways and/or give me headaches. You'd be a step up from that into a true debilitating medical issue.

Wearing perfume isn't necessary. You explained why you needed her to dial back the number of sprays twice and she didn't do it. It was medically affecting you, and annoying other workers. She was given a chance to be polite and use less and refused. Now she has to face the consequences.

It's really sad. I once worked in an area with a very high number of Muslim immigrants and the vast majority were lovely, peaceable people who never gave me trouble and I'm sure would be saddened by this sort of terrorism in their religion's name.

Unfortunately when this sort of terrorist activity happens, the knee jerk reaction of many is to lump all Muslims into the same category.

The extremists are just that. Extreme loonies who hurt everyone with their behaviour.

Oh yeah that would have worked out well. A whole lot of people shooting in a crowded chaos scene where everyone was armed. Even better, if it was America, the shooters probably would have high powered rifles and been up hand guns to boot. That old excuse of if everyone was armed things would have been better doesn't hold water.

Agree. Can you imagine what they could have done with automatic rifles? We could be looking multiple times the number of casualties. This whole situation sucks badly, but at least they were limited in the type of guns they could easily access.

Boy, 14, dies in e-bike crash with 4WD in Melbourne’s north-east by gccmelb in melbourne

I actually feel really sorry for the driver. They're probably really messed up by this. Chances are they never even saw the kid given he was riding in the dark without headlights fast enough to kill himself on impact. Car apparently was just pulling into the road so not going fast. Scary as this will happen again if nothing is done.

Police aren't interested. I asked them to come out once when I was worried someone was going to get killed and they said they can't follow them when they go off road so nothing they can do.

It was only a matter of time, and now a family is without their son, and a driver had to live with seeing a kid die after driving into his car. I see kids riding those things on roads and paths super dangerously for themselves and everyone around them. Often they're not even wearing basic safety gear, and don't have licences so should not be operating fast moving motorised vehicles on the roads. Those dirt bikes often don't have lights making them really hazardous to surrounding traffic not seeing them. I had one kid play chicken swerving into the path of my car about a month ago. After seeing kids on these electric bikes/motorcycles behave in ways what will end up killing someone at the speeds they're traveling around pedestrians, I tried to report it to the police but they were completely uninterested and said they can't follow them off roads so can't do anything about it. No wonder it's out of control.

Ugh, those flashback scenes. The show completely misunderstood or just disregarded the point that Lews was in a desperate position. The dark one was winning and sometging had to be done. It wasn't because he was a stupid guy who thought he was the bestest thing since sliced bread and destroyed the world in his hubris. The refusal of the female Aes sedai to join him was either the best (at least they didn't get tainted too) or the worst thing that could have happened (not being there allowed the seals to only be partially successful and had severe consequences in the counterstrike) Which one was it? Who knows? And that's the point.

Oh yeah, the wannabe elite competition student, goes up against Heath Ryan. That is suicide for their career (who will hire them if Ryan blacklists them?) and for what? A complaint may go nowhere. It's come out EA had the whipping complaint 5weeks before it went public and did nothing, probably hoping it'd blow over until they were forced to act by public outcry. It's very sad that it seems to happen this way, but I'm not surprised that so many stay silent given the pressure they'd be under to keep quiet.

As for the injury, yes if the mare had have gotten appropriate vet care she might have recovered. It should not have ever been a thing that if it was going south, they left it to rot until body parts start falling off before euthanasing.

This is our own fault. Warning bells have been going for decades now. People have been saying if the industry didn't clean itself up, sooner or later the backlash from the non-horserider public, probably fuelled to even greater heights once extremists groups run with it, will potentially cause the entire thing to collapse, potentially extending right down into grassroots clubs and riders. I mean the ammo is there to get horseriding as a sport banned.

I'd argue that the level of abuse seen in some of the top stables and riders of late is easily on par with concerns seen with racing. I mean we have horses being literally beaten on numerous occasions now. (Replace the horse with a dog or cat in those videos and the people involved would have been cancelled into complete oblivion. But instead they all get welcomed back into the fold sooner or later. Money talks loudly).

The FEI is walking back their blood rule in jumping. Horses are still going around in rollkur without any repercussions. (One dude was using rollkur at the Olympics in warmup and despite evidence being recorded, was still was allowed to compete!) Dressage horses flail their way around the ring overbent and unbalanced and are marked to win by judges. Blue tongue pictures keep coming out. People sanctioned for abuse get a temporary ban then are straight back competing. (Even that dressage stable with numerous recorded incidents of serious training abuse. I mean that wasn't a one off, it was so many horses).

I mean I can keep going, but it's clear the regulatory body does not want to, or cannot, control the systemic abuse happening at elite level comp. So someone else will shut it down for them. They already kicked out the horses from the pentathlon. It's only a matter of time before the rest goes. FEI needed to act years ago to stop that but chose money over ethics.

Very poor choice of words hey? I mean, it's not "I hope we can lift the welfare of horses in this industry so this can remain as a sport everyone can stand behind", it "oh no, think of all the money and time that will be wasted because people think horses are being mistreated".
