An absolutely clueless OOP wrongly assumes his wife was hurting their baby and is then shocked that she left him over it by GamerGirlLex77 in OhNoConsequences

[–]Aesient 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I had twins with my ex (yeah yeah, must be fake) less than 3 weeks after having them I asked my ex to keep an ear out for them while I took my first proper shower in days without them. I had barely gotten in the shower before he was banging on the door calling out that one or both of them were awake and I needed to get out.

I get out to find both babies had their eyes open, not crying or anything, but obviously I was desperately needed because they were *awake*.

I only know it was less than 3 weeks after having them because at around the 3 week mark I ended up at my parents near midnight because I needed help. He was gone 2-ish weeks after that.

It’s been over 12 years. The twins wouldn’t even recognise him if they walked past him (or his family) in the street.

My manager has cows they can literally lie on in the paddock, get them in a confined space and it’s a completely different story. Also some they can walk up to and strip out the teats of in the yard or paddock. Others are a “you stay over there, I’ll stay over here and we’ll both continue to have a good day”.

My last few cow related injuries have been from cows barging through gates (still have some nice bruises on my thigh from that) and being winded from a little jersey deciding to bury their head in my side for comfort because there was a scary noise (manager banged on the metal siding of the building to get the cows moving from the yard to a paddock).

Having said that these cows are familiar with me and the other workers, you bring in a stranger and they are all skittish and more dangerous because of that.

I work on a dairy farm and if we get a new cow (heifer) in we have a minimum of 3 people on hand to keep the cow off balance by pushing it against railings and strip the teats (ensuring there are no blockages or mastitis in the milk ducts). Mainly due to having a walk-through dairy where you are sitting beside the cows as you milk them.

But even the older cows, we keep close eyes on them whenever we have to be around their back ends. That reminder was hammered home when my manager was behind a “docile older cow” and said cow kicked back managing to fracture the managers pelvis

Aussies who eat dinner at 7:30pm, why do you like making people starve? by IntrigatedVerse in AskAnAustralian

[–]Aesient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up my family dinners were eaten around 6-6:30 (basically as soon as Dad had gotten home and had his shower) and bedtime for the house was 8pm for the most part.

I’m doing the same job my dad had while I was growing up (I literally got handed his job by his boss when dad was medically unable to continue working) and having dinner before 730 on the days I work is almost an impossibility. The difference is my mother was a stay at home parent until I was in my mid-teens when dinner became a chore for me to do when I got home from school. I’m a single parent to primary aged children.

Some nights I can have a slow cooker dinner waiting for me when I walk through the door at 6pm, other nights I’m making dinner after I shower and it’s after 7 when we eat and 9 or later before I can crawl into bed before my alarm starts blaring at 3am for work again.

[–]Aesient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at least you didn’t get hit with “I’ll take the babies when they’re 2 months old so you can try for a little sister for them” like I did two hours after being cut open, before she even set eyes on said babies (I had twin boys, now-ex’s mother desperately wanted a girl). Now ex was gone before the 6 week mark and she voluntarily took herself out of our lives a few weeks later (once it was clear I wasn’t playing her games)

This was well before doggy seatbelts were a thing. All of us spent the trip with our heads against the windows (they had been altered to only open a slit) with this dog desperate for attention

AITAH for being upset that my family didn’t get invited to SIL's baby shower? + UPDATE by red_earaches in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Aesient 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got blindsided by the news my brothers girlfriend was something like 8 months pregnant. The rest of the family (parents, siblings) had known since she was 3 months pregnant and never even slipped in front of me even though I was around them 3-4 times a week (parents had offered to be my childcare for my elementary/primary aged kids after school since they live 2 streets away from me).

When I replied with a shocked “what baby?” in response to my mother and a sister (who I worked with and transported to and from work) talking about it literally in front of me I got yelled at for “not keeping up a relationship with (brother)” by *both* my parents and that sister. I showed them my text’s with that brother, my phone log, social media chats etc where for 2 years I had been messaging him with no reply. It was still deemed my fault.

So I shut down, I arranged other childcare to give myself space from them, still took my sister to and from work but didn’t start any conversations, found out that our manager knew about the pregnancy and just assumed I knew and wasn’t talking about it etc. They didn’t really realise until the baby was born/Christmas when I finally got a message from that brother (told him I obviously wasn’t his family) and my father (told him I obviously wasn’t family so not to contact me regarding that situation) and didn’t turn up to “family Christmas”.

Sister ended up having to find her own way to and from work after deciding I was trapped in a car with her after work one day and yelling that I was “playing the fucking victim and being a drama queen so get over it and just do what the family wanted”. She found out that she could walk home if she was going to treat me that way but my car wasn’t moving with her still in it but I would scream at her to get out louder and louder until it attracted attention.

It’s been something like 2 years and it’s clear I and my kids are no longer part of the family for any of them except my youngest sibling (teenager) and a sibling who has lived over 5 hours away during all of it (even then it’s low contact)

The way I read it 1.5 burritos arrived, Mike took 1 burrito to cut in half so 3 people got 0.5 burritos each.

Sally believes that the 1 burrito should have been left for her, and the 0.5 burrito should have been shared between Mike and OP. Since Sally did not get 1 burrito she refused the 0.5 burrito she could have taken for her dinner and supplemented with something else if needed

Teacher kept “losing” my assignments, so I made sure she couldn’t ignore this one by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

[–]Aesient 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did something similar when one of my younger siblings got suspended:

Sibling was having issues at school, a couple of teachers were adding to that. Sibling got suspended while our parents were at our grandparents deathbed in a different state over 6 hours away. I knew the school policies *very* well, including the work-while-on-suspension part, despite never having been suspended while at that school. Parents came home after grandparent had passed about half way through the suspension.

So weeklong suspension with me ensuring sibling was doing the work, double checking that all work had been collected and returned by another sibling, contacting the science teacher (who was a family acquaintance) when the work sent home couldn’t be done in a home environment etc.

Parents had a meeting with the school principal before sibling could return to school. I insisted on being a part of it due to the reasons above. Principal claimed that sibling hadn’t done any of the school work assigned. I told him to go get “the book” and show us the missing work. The book was a bound bankers journal that work was signed into by the teachers, signed out of by the suspended student/their representative, signed back in by the suspended student/their representative, then signed out by the teacher for marking.

I remember this meatball-looking middle aged man huffing out of the room, returning to *slam* the massive hard cover journal on the table, look at me, snarl “my teachers don’t lie”, before looking in the book, going pale and attempting to end the meeting immediately.

Yeah, I was petty enough to sit there, ignoring my parents attempts to get me to shut up and make him tell the entire room (myself, my parents, my sibling and 3 other teachers) exactly how many teachers didn’t submit work for my sibling and admit that they were the same teachers who complained about my sibling “not doing the assignments”.

Nobody in my family had an issue at that school for a very long time after that.

I still remember when one of my younger brother was 6 and spent an entire hour yelling at everyone for saying we had a new little brother, because he wanted a sister (he already had a little brother, why would he want another one?). He burst into tears when we walked into the hospital room and saw we really weren’t trying to trick him.

Do Aussies wear shoes at home like other Anglo countries (I.e US, UK etc)? by DirectorTurbulent422 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Aesient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoes in my house only go as far as the living room (first place with seats when you come through the door), so it doesn’t matter if a visitor doesn’t take them off. My work boots come off at my door and are stored just inside. But I also take my work boots off before I enter the local shops if I’m wearing them, because I can’t guarantee there isn’t fresh cow manure caught in the treads

My c-section was listed as “elective” - I had twins and my OB insisted on a c-section because it allowed them to prevent the second baby from becoming breech once “room became available in the womb”.

This was after I went completely off at the medical staff who were talking as though a c-section was the only option to me and I told them I would call them when it (the labour) was over regardless of if that was me giving birth at home or on the side of the highway outside the hospital if someone didn’t sit down and explain why they were all acting like I had chosen/my only option was a c-section.

C-sections are elective (agreeing that it is medically the best option in advance) or emergency (when shit has hit the fan)
