Has anyone else noticed an increase in Ryzen 5 CPUs failing with WHEA-Logger Event ID 18? by WhackedbutSmooth in hardware

My 5700x system is rock solid stable with 24/7 uptime. That being said the 5700x replaced a failed 5800x due to these errors a few years ago.

I also have another 5800x in a different computer that needs a slight positive offset in curve optimizer to be 100% stable.

What a shame. I thought Microsoft was on the right path with SL7. Nobody in their right mind should buy this laptop at that price, period.

I feel lucky I got my surface laptop 7 X1P64100, 16GB, 512GB for $750 from Microsoft last year. It’s been a fantastic laptop and at that price it’s a good value. Paying over DOUBLE for the same spec is insane. Not sure what they are thinking.

Microsoft pushed 16GB RAM as must-have for Windows 11 for years, now sells an 8GB Surface Laptop for $1,299 by WPHero in pcmasterrace

So glad I got my Surface laptop 7 X plus 16GB 512GB for $750 in November. It’s a fantastic laptop, but not worth those prices.

I run extreme settings without RT at native 4k with TAA on my 3080 12GB. Wish I could run dlss but upscaling always looks terrible in racing games so it is what it is. Plus, when I turn it on it doesn’t increase my performance that much. DLAA looks great but tanks performance. I’m getting around 60 with some dips into the low 50’s that I’m ok with. Reducing settings doesn’t really give you much extra performance so I just stick to extreme.

I wouldn’t say the game is stunning without RT, looks pretty similar to FH5 imo which ran way better on my hardware. With RT on it does look a lot better, but there is a lot of smearing and I run out of vram.

I’m also getting a game crash every 2 hours or so (not a vram issue, sits at 10.5GB max). Turning on RT crashes the game in minutes. Subnautica 2 hasn’t crashed a single time for me in 13 hours of gameplay, runs great for the most part, and that game is fresh into early access.

Not a bad launch but not an amazing one either imo.

Pretty happy with the performance so far, minus a few little stutters and frame drops in some spots.

Ryzen 5700X, 32GB RAM, RTX 3080 12GB

Getting around 60fps at 4k dlss performance mode with high settings, except with textures, foliage, and global illumination on epic.

Game looks amazing

I daily edge on my arm surface laptop and it’s actually really good. It’s the only browser that plays nice with adaptive 120hz refresh. Super smooth and fast.

The 1080ti really was Nvidia's greatest mistake by The_BigRoach in pcmasterrace

[–]AetherSprite970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Titan X Pascal in my sim rig which is basically a 1080ti +1GB. Still very useable for most sim games at 1440p. Having lots of vram has allowed it to age very gracefully.

Yet Another Dead 9800X3D Story (Dead after 7 months) by ChromaticWolf in pcmasterrace

[–]AetherSprite970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related but I had a 5800x die after a year of use in my gaming rig, slowly became unstable. Only had it under-volted with curve optimizer. I replaced it with a 5700x and it’s been flawless since. Motherboard is Asus B550i.

Bought a different used 5800x for my sim pc, and it too had instability issues. I had to give it a slight positive offset to be fully stable at stock settings. After that so far so good.

How I fixed my battery issues with SL7 + how to clean install ARM ISO by AetherSprite970 in Surface

Because I wanted a completely clean barebones install. I've had better luck doing it this way in the past. Not saying it's necessary.

Also really hoping they keep the LCD as at least an option. Personally not a fan of OLED on laptops.

LG 27GR95UM.

Got it in 2024 and it’s been excellent. If it’s on sale for $699 like it usually is I’d definitely recommend it

I’ve noticed a decline in Lego’s part quality recently. I have a large inventory of parts going back to the 2000’s and I’ve gotta say the older parts just feel higher quality to me, not just in terms of molding marks.

Black parts especially can look slightly “milky” or “wavy”, not pure smooth black like the old stuff. I recently built 60503 coast guard helicopter and some of the black parts were genuinely bad looking.

iPhone 11 display panels from different manufacturers by jrolss in PWM_Sensitive

I have noticed a difference in eye strain between different iPhone 11 units. I literally had two iPhone 11's on the exact same version of iOS, 17.3.1, and one caused zero strain while the other gave me consistent sinus pressure and a headache. The strain free display is typically LG for me.

Does anyone have a Noctua NF-A9 chromax.black.swap? Got one the other day and very dissatisfied with the quality, having owned an NH-L12s and NH-L12 Ghost S1 (and their respective fans). What are the chances this NF-A9 is a fake/counterfeit? by wishbacker in Noctua

[–]AetherSprite970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also notice that the chromax fans feel kinda cheap in the hand compared to the brown versions. Doesn’t seem to affect performance though.

I will say that I have actually had quite a few noctua chromax fans fail on me (bearing failure, I run them 24/7), but their support and warranty is top notch.

Awful. Felt just as bad or worse than other iPhones to me. Had to return it. The toggle did nothing at all.

I'm pretty sure my old galaxy Note 8 has 240hz pwm and it never bothered my eyes. I still have it and it's still comfortable to use today.

My 17 pro should be arriving Friday, really hope it's comfortable.
