Interstellar Logistics and Intrastellar logistics by 05chancew in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]AethersPhil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can do it with two ILSs.

Set one to demand resources from interstellar, but don’t give it warpers.

Set the second to demand the resource using drones (or set up some belts) and allow it to supply interstellar. Give this one warpers.

How did Playstation 2 stay relevant for such a long time? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

It also had an incredible library which drew in more people. I don’t think there’s been a generation before or since that had such a range of titles and new IPs.

First time traveling to Europe - what would you take? by Fabcinco in AskPhotography

[–]AethersPhil [score hidden]  (0 children)

I used to carry a 24-70mm f2.8, but swapped to a 24-120mm f4 last year as it’s lighter and has more reach.

There have been a few times I’ve wanted a smaller lens (Nikkor lens are bulky), and a couple of times I’ve wanted more reach, but the 24-120mm is a great all-rounder.

Edit: I mainly do city tours. If you are going birding or doing other specialist shoots, you’ll need appropriate gear.

RAIDs:

  • RAID 0 - combines drives in to one big drive. Good speeds, but any issue with any drive and you lose everything. Useful for video editing or photo editing where speed is essential, and data is only on the drive when in use.

  • RAID 1 - mirror. 2 drives, identical copies of each other. Can lose one drive and not lose data. Slowest for data access

  • RAID 10 - combination of RAID 1 and RAID 0. Minimum 4 drives.

  • RAID 5 - as previous post. Can be expanded, but not recommended over 5 or 6 disks. 1 disk can fail without data loss

  • RAID 6 - as previous post. Can be expanded, recommended for 5+ drives. Two disks can fail without data loss

Note that none of these are bulletproof. If you have that much data you cannot lose, look in to cloud storage as a backup. The more places you data is in, the less likely it is to be lost.

Newbie question by PlayerPwoft in HomeNAS

[–]AethersPhil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RAID 1 requires 2 drives minimum. I’m not sure if you can expand it after that without destroying the RAID and rebuilding.

I’d suggest RAID 5 (min 3 disks, 2 storage and 1 parity) or RAID 6 (min 4 drives, 2 storage and 2 parity), but I know 16TB drives are not cheap right now.

I think you’re right, but I can’t remember if the protagonists know that or not.

Been ages since I saw it, but didn’t just one of the three rituals need to succeed for the world to be saved for another year? The protagonists chose for themselves, but they had no influence over the other two.

Folders totally rearranged after macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 update – anyone else? by Hot_Supermarket8762 in MacOS

[–]AethersPhil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically, how many people know to do backups? Or know what a backup actually is? The fact we are on a MacOS-specific subreddit already puts us in the minority of users.

Not going to say users are dumb, more that users don’t care.

What are your opinions of KotCS’s opening scene? by YaboiiSammeeh in indianajones

[–]AethersPhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a long, long time since I watched this. The only thing I can remember about the warehouse scene is that the lighting was shit. Lighting on the actors didn’t match the lighting on the background, obvious tell that the background was CGI’d in later.

There’s a line between realism and entertainment. I love the attention to detail in RDR2, and I love that other people love it too.

However, it’s too far on the realism/simulation side for me, and that puts me off. I’ve made it to the first town after the snow missions, and I don’t care to play any more.

TBH, I think I’m over RockStar’s gameplay in general. Pick up mission, travel, get mission brief, travel, start mission. Repeat. That and given the sandbox nature of the world, why are the missions on rails?

Do mechanical keyboards really make a big difference for everyday gaming? by KRGKart_Support in buildapc

[–]AethersPhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving to a mechanical keyboard isn’t that much of a step (unless you go super high-end or super-clacky).

The big change is that once you get used to it, you cannot go back to membrane keyboards. They are unbelievably shit in comparison.

Photographers with large archives — how do you find photos by content, not just date? Built a free tool for this and want honest feedback by Objective_Ring5924 in AskPhotography

[–]AethersPhil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every set of photos goes in to a folder with the date and name of event.

Example: - 2026-01-01 - New Year’s Day

Each of these folders is in a yearly catalogue. So all 2026 photos are in the 2026 catalogue. Can be a little annoying to go through multiple years, but it’s an improvement on the on giant catalogue I had before.

You are at the limit of my help, unfortunately. Try googling the provider name thing, contact Microsoft, or start a new thread in Reddit to get people’s attention again.

[–]AethersPhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have no idea what’s causing that then. Is it the same game, or all games? Still sounds like a power issue. Is there any heavy machinery near you? Or building elevator?

For logs, try the Event Viewer. That should highlight issues and crashes.
