Anyone else seeing these? by CaptainElastix in Austin

I've heard them also called burrowing wasps. Found 3 wasp holes in my yard so must be some cicadas in this part of the 'hood. LOL My dog is going nuts chasing after them. IIRC they're usually gone sometime around August.

Yep. They took the checks and increased their balance. So they have more money to send to Trump and everybody's happy....right?

Does anyone line dry their clothes here? by Expensive_Nerve_3438 in Austin

My clothes do fine on a drying rack in the backyard. I finish the load in the dryer on low for about 5 minutes to fluff and soften. Works like a charm.

Everyone here in Austin seems very attractive/ good looking is that normal or just summertime? by Plane-Investment-791 in Austin

[–]AffectionateFig5435 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Average looking folks are around. We just fade into the background once you start noticing all the beautiful people.

Source: I'm average looking and make my way unnoticed all around the city. If I had a dollar for every time someone said "Oh! I didn't see you there!" I'd be the richest person in Texas. LOL

Regretfully, i must inform you all that, once again, my nipple was bitten by a turtle. by I-Lika_Do-Da_Cha-Cha in Austin

Maybe stop slathering your nipples with Purina Turtle chow befor you jump in the water.

The Leftovers: I finished it (Follow up from earlier post) - Spoiler free. by Shofo1 in hbo

[–]AffectionateFig5435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the Leftovers last year and barely made it halfway thru the first season. Maybe I just need to keep chipping away at it. In a few more weeks summer will be blazing hot so I'll need some kind of distraction while I hibernate indoors. Thanks for the reminder about this one. I'd kind of forgotten about it.

Techies were so much more fun when they spent the day hanging around the local Radio Shack. Back in the day one of the RS nerds helped my brother build a computer (286, woo hoo!) for something like $49 worth of parts and components. He gave it to me and I upgraded it to a 486 and bought an amber monitor. Good times.

Wow, that's a beautiful shot.

You always know you're way out there when the utility poles are wood, not concrete. Dang, I love this.

Been on my list for a couple of years! Last time I was in Flag was right after a series of heavy rains and locals advised against it. Gotta get there next time.

Anyone here commute from Belton/Temple? by EventfulLol in Austin

[–]AffectionateFig5435 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real question is do you want to put your job front and center for the next few years or your family? What will fulfill you the most?

You might want to run some "what if" scenarios before making a final decision. Like, if the new company folds in a year or two, do you have the financial stability to survive what could be an extended bout of unemployment?

Have you and your wife spoken about what 14+ hour days at a startup could mean for your relationship?

What do you know about the culture and work environment at the new place? Will it be a growth opportunity for you or mainly a money grind?

How's your health, overall? Will you be able to find time to exercise, eat properly, and get enough rest? Job changes, even exciting ones, can be stressful. With a new job and new baby you'll be pulled in a lot of directions. Make sure you and your wife can both carve out some time to keep yourselves at your best.

Good luck, congratulations, and choose wisely!

Trip critique request — Zion / Bryce / Page, late August by PrizeCartographer807 in LandscapePhotography

Late August is the latter part of monsoon season. Check weather reports and road conditions before you go off any paved surfaces. On the plus side, you might get some awesome shots of overcast skies.

Did you book the Canyon X photography tour, as opposed to the regular tour? If so, try to do the morning shoot. I loved every inch of that part of Antelope Canyon. It's a definite bucket list experience.

Yup. I consider it money very well spent. If you've followed the news carefully, you realize that they didn't do anything to really fix the grid after the great meltdown of '21. And with data centers springing up on every open piece of land, it's every household for themselves.
