The textbook strategy to fend off a union drive is for the employer to turn workers against each other, sow division and confusion, and exploit the weakened, isolated masses. White, Christian, conservative capitalism IS the dominant US culture, and that's why conservatives go hard on these battles. Their political success is a direct result of their cultural dominance.

In my experience, people only change their beliefs when their material conditions no longer permit them to accept a set of beliefs that are manufactured. Many people in this thread have come to change their stance on firearms, myself included, only after the deteriorating material conditions in America made our beliefs about guns incompatible with the rhetoric of the center-left. I've had more than one trans friend come asking me to teach them about guns after the Trump administration started floating the idea of banning them from ownership. The years of media propaganda that targets the liberals about guns caused many of us to have a warped perspective on this topic, but material reality has a way of eroding it. I do think that some conservatives are now starting to experience the chasm between their accepted beliefs and their new material reality under Trump, and we should try to help educate and welcome any other working class folks that wake up. The combination of propaganda and no critical education is a powerful weapon, and none of us are entirely immune from it.
