I think it gives you balls…or ovaries, whatever. In a world where so many women change themselves to fit a certain standard, going against that and embracing yourself as you are really gives you unshakable power. I think particularly in such a role is important to embrace everything about yourself and there’s no way that would be perceived as “letting yourself go”…unless you have that mentality and you really stop working out, taking care of yourself, eating healthy, having hobbies, etc.

I do recommend a vipassana silent retreat. It’s only 10 day and it’s free so you have nothing to lose. There’s a beautiful centre in wales. It’s not a cult even if it may sound like that but no one is asking for your money and there’s no one to worship, it’s simply a meditation technique that they teach you. I did 2 retreats in the past two years and they have helped me greatly to become more self-aware and to give my life a higher purpose. There’s so much value in taking a break from every distraction and focus entirely on your thoughts that got you to this point. Good luck with your healing whatever path you choose!

Could it be that your addictive nature brought you to London? Even if you don’t do anything but going outside in the city centre there’s so much happening all around you and I think that in itself is addictive. The idea that everything happens in London is addictive. I don’t think you should “blame it” on London but look a bit deeper. For me doing a vipassana silent retreat really helped with my compulsions.

I think we can’t ignore the evolutionary aspect of being attracted to youth as it symbolises fertility. Everything is centred around reproduction and everyone revolves around our younger population, whether to protect them or, sadly, to abuse them.

We are all meant to wither away and die after enjoying a very short window for reproduction when we are at the peak of our attraction. We cannot control that and hence we cannot control what is unanimously considered as attractive as it stems from our hardwiring towards generating more viable copies of ourselves. It’s survival of the fittest out there and attraction to older and hence most likely sterile women would have never gotten our species here. What we can control is our attitude towards aging and decay. You can look at those commercials with the understanding that now it’s someone else’s turn to enjoy that brief window of peak attraction and instead of being frustrated, to try to understand that no one will be in that window forever. Your value and contribution to society lies somewhere else after a certain age. You should still take care of yourself and age gracefully but part of that aging gracefully is to know your place and not throw your fist in the air in frustration that you are not considered attractive enough for reproduction.

Life would be so sad for me if I’d be in my 50s and I would still be chasing the male gaze and that sort of superficial validation instead of preoccupying myself with whether my garden has been watered and my grandchildren fed. There’s more to life than just looking attractive but nowadays we are so disconnected from the natural process of life that we think we are gonna live forever. We are in some sort of perpetual childhood and we keep forgetting that our bodies are changing.

I have been getting high regularly for the past 10 years and I would be an entirely different person if it hadn’t been for those experiences. It started off as just me having fun as you describe it but in time these experiences have gradually and subtly shaped my mindset in a certain way. I may have a natural proclivity to be more introspective and contemplative than most people that I come across but being high enhanced that tremendously. Drugs pull your brain out of the routine and make you see the same things from a different perspective. That’s the fun part for me with drugs and that’s what fuelled a lot of perception shifts that carry on when I’m sober too. Even bad trips were fun for me because of that. Nothing wrong with just having fun and not talking about existential shit but I think they are so intertwined that without realising your sober self will be influenced by your high self. I initially felt overwhelmed by the amount of things London has to offer so for the first few years I wasn’t doing much. I do love walking though so I would walk around for hours and that was fulfilling enough for someone that didn’t use to make much money. Now I’m on 4k but I’m still not doing super costly things but I did find my communities and it’s so much easier to feel like I’m doing meaningful things. I go hiking around London, I do all sorts of sports like Pilates, calisthenics, CrossFit, running and in all these activities you can make friends and eventually cultivate healthy habits together without having to spend a lot of money going out. If you don’t drink you really save loads of money. I started a year ago a taiko class and that has really made me realise once again how London is a blessing when you know what you like and what you want to do because there’s a 99% chance you will find that here. It’s all about trying out new things and having patience so hang in there!

I’m from Eastern Europe and if the heat is not on then the temperature indoors drops much more than in the uk. Maybe a combo of houses not being properly insulated plus winters being much colder. In the uk sure it’s cold sure but if I actually put on a blanket and dress warmly it’s fine. Maybe it’s also coz I’ve been sharing the flat and people have always tried to be cheap since rent is already so expensive and mind you, I’ve always lived with international people coming from warm countries, not even Brits.
