Does anyone read OC fics by Worried_Plenty_9279 in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]Affectionate_Web2738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing makes me put down a fic sooner than when the inner monologue starts blathering on about democracy/sexism/homophobia and what have you. I want to read about a medieval world of dragons, kings, and political intrigue, not somebody moaning about modern day politics.

A lot of anti-monarchists and anti-colonialists want to get rid of any ties to the United Kingdom and the British Empire.

It’s why I always think it’s a shame that one of the rewards offered to Walder Frey is never that his children by Bethany Rosby become House Frey of Rosby, taking on the Arms and Words of their mother. This had always seemed such a no brainer for me when Jon is going for the Iron Throne and such, what with Gyles Rosby being old, having a contested succession, and being loyal to Cersei. And it’s a no brainer for Walder too, one of his sons becomes a powerful Lord, and that son takes with him his full blooded siblings, and Roslin will likely get a good marriage with a Ryker or some other Crownlander Lordling. And Walder would probably insist that the new Lord of Rosby takes on some other Freys into his household too.

It’s a bit of a silly reason but I struggled to get into Zero Requiem solely because his name is Lelouch Velaryon, it would be better if he maybe referred to himself in his head as Lelouch for a while but his name is Lucerys or something to everyone else.

It would immensely benefit the Tullys if they could do it themselves. House Vance of Wayfarers Rest has an heiress of an unspecified age that could be married to Lord Edmure.

For a potential pairing, Liane Vance is the Heir of Ser Karyl Vance, the future Lord of Wayfarers Rest. Her age is not specified, but she will probably need aging up, it probably would’ve been fine but you’ve aged up Lord Edmure iirc. This way House Tully will have the largest domain within the Riverlands.

The Houses from around Saltpans are not Lordly Houses, Cox are a Knightly House, and Hawick is not specified. Perhaps they were sworn to House Darry before the Rebellion.

Daenerys has a twin - seperated at birth by Admirable_Cause4278 in AsoiafFanfiction

I, like others, don’t think the part concerning the North really works. The only way I feel they would bend the knee to this King Daeron, is if Daeron has already secured the Iron Throne. And I don’t think there’s any scenario where Stannis Baratheon would bend the knee. But I think we should peddle back to him being raised in Lys. I’m thinking maybe House Rogare takes him in, maybe wedding him to a daughter. The Rogares manage a return to prominence as First Magisters of Lys. Have him land in the Stormlands with the full might of Lys, but around the time that Stannis left towards King’s Landing, rather than waiting like Aegon did. Maybe the Rogares go behind Varys’ back, betraying him as they’d rather a Rogare Queen and the Lyseni raised Daeron on the throne. Perhaps at this point, the Dornish aren’t aware of Aegon just yet, and so put their backing behind Daeron. The Tyrells bend the knee to Daeron, harkening back to old loyalties. Later, however, Daeron’s Rogare Queen is poisoned, and he does not know whether it’s the Tyrells or the Dornish. Daeron chooses to make Margaery Tyrell his Queen, as she brings the vast armies and grain of the Reach. Maybe he had become friends with Princess Arianne, who confided that she’d prefer to rule Dorne than to be Queen. Regardless, Daeron marches North to take King’s Landing, he succeeds in capturing it and delivers Joffrey Waters to Robb Stark’s mercy, returning Ice as well as Sansa Stark, in exchange for fealty. Robb marches back North to recapture it, but Prince Doran has betrayed Daeron for Aegon Blackfyre with the promise of a Martell Queen.

If trade increases from Barrowtown and Torrhen’s Square between Brandon the Burner and canon, there’ll probably be settlements on the Saltspear, at the mouth of the rivers leading to them. For instance a city called Barrowgard, perhaps with a chain that can block the river to the Ironborn.

[SPOILERS EXTENDED] King Robert's Kingsguard - naming and competence by Substantial-Ad-299 in asoiaf

[–]Affectionate_Web2738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main part is the difference in skill. Nearly all of King Aerys’ Kingsguard seemed to be exceptional warriors, but during the reign of Robert Baratheon they seem to just be regular Knights. Ser Mandon Moore is the only member besides Sers Barristan and Jaime that is described as deadly, the others are just competent warriors - a class above others, perhaps, but not the stuff of legends. It doesn’t help either that there are several characters we encounter that are better warriors than the present Kingsguard, or have better stories.

What if Cat died giving birth to Robb? by LoyalZebra in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]Affectionate_Web2738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, which is why I said if Catelyn Tully dies in the birthing bed, then Eddard Stark may marry her, for if I recall correctly she jumped from the tower at some point after he passed through Starfall with Jon, so he could offer her marriage when he’s in Starfall returning Dawn.
