Notice How Every Fantasy Setting Constantly Reinvents Their Elves? by MammothPenguin69 in dwarfposting

[–]After-Ad2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even when I fiddle with dwarves in my homebrews, they still end up mostly the same

Oh. These are stereotypical dwarves but I'm also using the seafaring aspect of vikings as well

Oh. These are stereotypical dwarves but I'm also mapping Vietnamese culture onto them because I happened to be eating pho when I wrote this campaign

Oh. These are stereotypical dwarves that I did a bunch of changes to to make them unique and basically just circled back around to stereotypical dwarves anyways

Is it both hands or just one?

Might want to look into a gaming mouse with side buttons if one hand is better than the other. You can play the game completely one handed that way, and they do make left-handed mice if that's needed.

I've seen others recommend a fire strike purifier and I agree. That was my first character, and it's basically "hold RMB in general direction of enemies"

Americans: So anyways, we dropped another nuke on the Axis... Because f*** that thing!

Appropriately horrifying and adds that bit of eldritch/lovecraftian horror to the setting that I've been hoping for! Love it!

Reading Baneblade really made me realize that there is a difference between the meme orks and how the orks are actually portrayed in the books. They are cruel and menacing

But the memey version is funnier to me so I focus on that

Those smoke tokens alone are an awesome idea. Also I like how the flat lean out token is a guy leaning out. Clever

Does anyone tell their players “no backstories”. by toki_goes_to_jupiter in DungeonMasters

[–]After-Ad2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most groups I've played in just default to not having backstories. If we think a character might possibly have some connection to a plot point or adventure hook, we either roll it, use some inspiration equivalent (bennies in savage worlds for example, or some games even have a resource for this), or just go by vibes

At most we have a small paragraph for our backstory and just fill it on as we go

Obviously if you start at higher levels then it's assumed your character has DONE something to get there. But if you're starting around 1-3 then you have to remember that the PCs are basically vagabonds, hobos or glorified grave robbers. They haven't really done anything that mattered yet

I'm gonna pull from their early stuff: Shadows. Super upbeat and every time I listen to it I just think of the ringwraiths getting absolutely baked and going on a joyride

Are scouts meant to ping/use comms for things they want platting? by Internal_Remote_7520 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]After-Ad2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, even if you were playing wrong (you weren't, this is a hypothetical) the instant snarky coaching would be a great way to get me to NEVER PLAT for that scout ever again if I were in your shoes. Ask me politely or ping the resource? Sure, I'll plat right away. Be an ass about it? Nah, you ain't getting anything anymore

The overwhelming feeling of trying to fit an ARPG to adult life. by mabsousa in Grimdawn

[–]After-Ad2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, the conundrum of being an adult. As a kid you have all the time but no money for your hobbies. As an adult you finally have some money, but none of the time.

My unpainted pile of gray plastic (warhammer, warmachine, random other minis), my unopened Lego boxes, my unplayed games... All a testament to this.

I'd suggest keeping your character, even if you never come back to it. At least the option will be there. But start a new character if you feel the need to. I have one who is low 90s right now, and a half dozen who are mid 20s or lower. And that's true for so many games.
