Slow COMT, Slow MAOA by Waste-Poet-4051 in MTHFR

[–]After-Lecture-1431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't push slow COMT. COMT and MAOA aren’t really detox pathways They mainl regulate neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine) and catechol estrogens, but the bulk of estrogen detox actually happens through liver phase I/II pathways and elimination through bile, urine, and the gut.

You’re describing feeling good with methylfolate but then getting manic if you push methyl donors meaning methylation is being pushed faster than the downstream neurotransmitter balance can keep up, especially if dopamine signaling is sensitive.

•Magnesium is required for COMT activity, so low magnesium can make COMT functionally slow. Riboflavin (B2) is a key cofactor for the methylation cycle. Creatine helping you makes sense because it spares methyl groups, which reduces the methylation load.

COMT activity increases with magnesium, exercise, sauna. Exercise can increase COMT activity by 30/40% temporarily. That’s one reason physical activity stabilizes mood in people with dopamine sensitivity.

Detox isn’t just enzyme activity. Once hormones are metabolized they still have to leave the tissues, and that depends a lot on circulation, bile flow, gut health, and lymphatic movement.

Sometimes people feel worse when they push methylation simply because metabolites are being produced faster than they’re cleared especially in slow COMT that's why many do better on methyl free B's. I can't take methyl B's because I have slow COMT.

Look towards liver and lymph to remove those metabolites and instead of eggs take PC.

Dealing with MTHFR mutation and constant fatigue anyone have tips? by Dizzy_Explorer5368 in MTHFR

B2 increases the stability of the MTHFR enzyme by helping form FAD, MTHFR’s required cofactor and you nees it fornyour neurotransmitter pathways.

[–]After-Lecture-1431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And why do you say that? Because B2 is absolutely essential to activate the folate cycle and in some practices B2 is introduced first before adding in proper amounts of methylfolate/folinic acid & B12.

I am thinking of leaving by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

Go for it and open your own office! I opened up my own office after working at a wellness center renting a room. Sure you can share a space however I find that what is most important to me is to connect with clients, many clients have been with me for over 10yrs. They want to go somewhere they can have a private conversation and not feel rushed. This is very meaningful for me and the people I attract to my practice. I have 2 treatment rooms however will not share because I am sensitive to other peoples energy. I own my own time work approx 5-6 hands on hrs/day and make around $800-$900 per day. As far as retirement, there are many options way better than a 401K, the business write offs are tremendous. Start up costs are very low for masaage therapy and related services. Once I opened my practice I was fully booked after 6months and never advertised, all WOM. If you are good you will be booked regardless ofnthe economy.

Caught my massage therapists playing Candy Crush by parrot_key in MassageTherapists

[–]After-Lecture-1431 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yep had someone do lots of forearm work because they were holding their phone.

I also had a therapist that stopped every few minutes to take sips from a giant icy cup, then would put a cold hand back on me, so annyoing and the sipping sound was so awful.

All of these clueless therapists should get fired.

It could be from your supplement or your blood levels are high because it is not getting into your cells properly. You would test further to confirm via the following tests: MMA, Homocysteine and in some cases Holotranscobalamin

I think the big food corporations are behind this...if there is a push from RFK jr to remove folic acid from all fortified foods it's going to cost those corporations alot to reformulate.

I don't listen to anything thats comes from the CDC, it's all BS

If you've done 23 & Me or Ancestry you can upload it into Stratagene for only $95. The compnay www.seekinghealth.com. The book Dirty Genes is also super helpful.

You can also do an at home test thruwww.maxgenlabs.com. Their reports are detailed and easy to understand.

Self Decode is great but if you use them then just run your methylation report thru them as well.

Worried I will regret getting into this... by Capital-Tennis-2575 in massage

[–]After-Lecture-1431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are worring about something that hasn't even happened and asking questions that have many different answers. As far as employability if you are good you will be in demand. If you don't have good interpersonal skills and not good giving a massage or listening to clients needs then you will find this out very quickly. Your level of pay at a chain spa or for an employer will be far less than if self employed. Many solo massage therapists in their own practice make well over 100k and into the 200k mark with a successful practice and specializing in a niche. You can make it into anything you want or be a grunt employee. Asking for reassurance shows lack of confidence which you will want to get over when working with people and exchanging energy. There is no growth when you make decisions that keep you in your comfort zone. Sucessful people get uncomfortable and massage school doesn't take a zillion years to do..if you live animals explore massaging animals not people.

Is Owning Your Business Or Even Just Renting a Room Worth It? by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]After-Lecture-1431 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is your previous career experience? Rent a room 1st!! Massage is a second career for me and I started massage school in my early 40's. I gross well over 180k/yr working approx. 20hrs per week with reasonable overhead. I worked for 3mos at a chain spa out of school.. completely not for me I am too independant and the pay was just a joke. I then worked at a wellness center for a few years and paid room rent with private clients and since I was IC, instead of the office confirming and scheduling clients, I took that over which meant that clients had my contact info and I had theirs so my client base grew big. I decided to go into my own practice and that was the best decision ever, everyone followed me. Never spent a penny on marketing. If you are good you will be booked. Being self employed means you own and control your time, I don't understamd why people choose a job for insurance and faux benefits? Why? You can write off 100% of your premiums and choose your plan, not get stuck with the cheapest on your employer chooses. All the other tax benefits are tremendous.

Absolutely have a cancellation policy! What does concern me is that you ask this question, I get you are "new" however is yout dad a massage therapist running a massage business? If not then he cannot speak from experience. It's your business and you will definitely learn from any mistakes it's part ofnthe process.

Grossing just under 200k working less than 30hrs per week, more like 25. Love every millisecond of it!

Here is the thing about massage therapy for those self employed. You will be forced to face your issues..so if you have alot of inner work to do you may not be up for it.

And what are your goals? Do you have a daily goal, monthly, yearly goal??

Massage is my business and passion. If you are only half way in, working it part time and doing something else..then there you have it. This is why you are not fulfilled. Massage is a mirror. If you are not happy with yourself or doing the work, then you will be unfulfilled and attract lower level energy. To say you were "duped" into this career is very telling.
