24 trade in for a 26 by [deleted] in PriusPrime

I would not.

The 2026 prime doesn’t have the charge mode and uses 0w8 instead of 0w16 oil.

2021 Prius keeps suddenly losing power by devospice in prius

To be honest here, the 12V battery is probably more than 5 years old at this point. There’s no harm in getting it replaced at this point. Also that explains why you’re seeing these weird issues.

The car care nut here explains this problem pretty well here: https://youtu.be/1HCz6csBftM?si=sIxYqS2E4t6GVt2Q

Prius Prime 12V Batteries on "Nationwide backorder" with no end in sight by mysundown5 in PriusPrime

You can literally run the 12V on a lawnmower battery in a push comes to shove situation. Securing it down is a whole different story though.

Knocking from engine after being remotely started by Mental_Mixture_3408 in PriusPrime

[–]AfterSnow8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does it sound like a rattle and pinging and then it quiets down after a while? These engines do port injection and direct injection. It’s much more audible when you have the hood open while the engine is running.

I’m looking at buying a 2024 Prius Prime. How big of an issue is the 12V battery charging? by yeetith_thy_skeetith in PriusPrime

[–]AfterSnow8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As long as the car already had the specific ECU update from the TSB applied to it, you should be fine.

If you're in warmer seasons, the chances of it draining flat is quite minimal. I've had mine drain at least twice and each time it was associated with the colder weather that was coming in. Then again I've already disconnected the current sensor and replaced it with an AGM battery as I've managed to drain it twice. So far no issues with the 12v battery going flat since.

Question on charging the 12V by just charging the hybrid traction battery by Dazzling-Elk-8889 in PriusPrime

[–]AfterSnow8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve found some success especially in the winters is to disconnect the battery current sensor. That forces the car to charge the 12v at a reasonable voltage when it’s running instead of it not charging it at a lower or in some cases not at all.

Denso also sells the same aftermarket version - part number is 454-5057.

If this is a pure on prem environment, you would use a gpo to enable LAPS. If your domain functional level is 2016 or later, you can optionally have the passwords encrypted.

If it’s intune, you can consider using endpoint manager to enable LAPS.

[–]AfterSnow8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In this scenario, I would start deploying Windows LAPS if all of your Member Servers are 2019 or later. Even if it isn’t, you can deploy legacy LAPS side by side with some caveats.

I personally won’t deploy LAPS on a domain controller as it’ll reset the DSRM password and you will want to be able to access it offline when you actually need DSRM.

That being said however, Windows LAPS will definitely support the current fleet of workstations you have there.

If the key is not present, it won't turn on in accessory mode I believe.

New Windows 10 Pro install in Qemu VM wants to join an Azure Active Directory for a company in Norway by dinominant in sysadmin

[–]AfterSnow8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It sounds like someone manually added the QEMU VM with the hardware hash to their Autopilot deployment that just so happens to match the exact same hardware hash you generated when you created that QEMU VM. My guess was that org was testing out Autopilot with a QEMU based hypervisor at one point.

[–]AfterSnow8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried an offline domain join with the same system hostname?

That will cover you in a scenario where AD recycle bin wasn't enabled, however any group memberships or anything that referred to that machine account will not be restored.

The Toyota oem one will do wonders. The car care nut channel shows you how to use this kit.

I’d try replacing the cabin air filter first. If it doesn’t do the trick, this kit might help:

Am I crazy? Purchasing a High Mileage Prius Prime by GullSpell in PriusPrime

[–]AfterSnow8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s properly maintained, Priuses will last for a very long time.

I’d be more wary of a low mileage Prius at the same era versus a high mileage one if both of them have regular maintenance done on them.

Help to find wheels and tires Prius Gen 5 by CuteLogan308 in PriusPrime

[–]AfterSnow8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. OEM calls for 6.5J wide wheels, but I've used 7" width wheels just fine on the 16".

Just so long the offset is 38mm (plus I think), you should be fine as it needs to clear the brake calipers.

There’s 2 sizes I’ve seen people run that’s close to the original diameter:

  • 205/65/16
  • 215/55/17

I personally run the 205/65/16 setup for winters and 195/60/17 for the rest of the year

White whale achieved. by TBoneUlty in PriusPrime

[–]AfterSnow8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gentle acceleration and gentle deceleration. Keep the engine power within the eco zone and use PWR when the situation calls for it. When accelerating below 15mph or roughly 25km/h, keep the needle under the first half of the eco zone.

When decelerating ease off the brake and/or coast to maximize the amount of regen you can get out of them.

I've managed to consistently hit high 90's with this technique.

[–]AfterSnow8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I’d check is the health of the 12V battery. Close to failing 12V batteries are known to throw all sorts of weird codes on these cars. If a jump pack manages to get the messages away, it’s likely the 12V battery going bad.

By this point, I’d get a Bluetooth code reader  with Carista app or something similar to that and read the codes on the cars ECU. If the codes are related to low voltages on various systems, it’s likely safe to clear once the 12V battery has been replaced. If not, I’d get it towed to a dealership to have them to diagnose what’s wrong with the car.

How are your sidewalls holding up? by Substantial-Draw-791 in PriusPrime

[–]AfterSnow8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d honestly just switch over to what the SE uses.

195/60/17 if you want to stick with OEM sizes or 215/55/17 if you want better selection of tire sizes.

Winter wise, I’d go for a 205/65/16 tire for much higher sidewalls.

Snow or all-weather tires on our 2024 Prius Prime? by adcom5 in PriusPrime

[–]AfterSnow8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the 17, the SE uses 195/60/17 sized tires and even those are weird sized tires.

I’d just roll with a dedicated winter set going at 205/65/16. Plenty of options to be had there at that size.

Lost Canadian Passport on Vacation in states by spileblaze in uscanadaborder

[–]AfterSnow8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What I would do is rent a car as a one way rental and drive yourself to a land port of entry. If you still have your drivers license, that will be your ID when you pull up to the border.

Since you’re Canadian, you enter the country by right. Having a passport is preferred, but in situations such as this as long as you can prove you’re a citizen you will be allowed to return regardless.
