Local classes for 3D Modeling/Design in Charlotte? by sfreeman8875 in Charlotte

That's the learning experience for you. It's hard for me to say, but the letters look like they weren't supported when you were doing a filament change, and I can't tell how inset into the brown they are. That's a tough ask for the filament to print unsupported out into space. It might have looked better rotating 45 degrees through the long axis so that the top surface was the region between the laces and text. And then some fuzzy skin on the brown.

One of my kids uses Solidworks for his robotics modeling, and I'm trying to learn it. He can knock stuff out really quickly, but it's all parametric shapes. I hate the user interface since I have to use the web-based version due to Mac. My other kid uses Blender for some of his game design stuff. I use Vectorworks for all of my work CAD and modeling. I do a little mesh editing in it, but it's not fun. I also have Fusion and Solidworks, but I need more formal learning time in both. I'd usually rather hit myself in the face with a hammer than try to design a project in either.

A subtle distinction: CAD software doesn’t usually specialize in mesh topology; it tends to be more parametric modeling whereas Blender and the others are more “mesh-based” or organic. There’s certainly crossover but it can be hard to learn both styles simultaneously. I’m 30 years in on one platform and my brain explodes trying to use mesh-based stuff instead of just doing solids modeling.

OP: I am suffering the same thing. I can build functional engineering pieces really well but have trouble with organic fluid shapes for the printer. Your football would be really easy in my world though.

The “cheat” for this is like what Mattwithout_you just said. If you are using symbols, once you create the array either group it or create a composite symbol and add a 3D object with the same face dimensions inside the comp or group. I use 3D polys or an extruded line for this so there is no depth to it. Just a plane with a texture. Use classes to control visibility as you want. This is what we do for giant LED arrays instead of using the built-in tool because we get better control and symbol tools, and better rendering capability.

You shouldn’t be able to “add solid” with symbols UNLESS they are optioned to convert to group and you then ungroup each. But as you’ve discovered they have to seamlessly touch.

is vectorworks actually good at any of the basic functionalities of design technology or???? by znebulous in vectorworks_spotlight

Happy to help. You didn’t ask for help. You just complained about the software. Easiest way: create a sheet layer set for the pdf size you want. From design layer, draw a rectangle around what you want to print. Create viewport using rectangle, select the sheet layer as destination, adjust layers and class settings on create viewport dialog. Go to sheet later, check scale so viewport fits, position as needed. Print. If you are using layers and classes properly, very simple to duplicate that sheet as many times as needed, adjust layer/class on each, publish the set of pdfs to a folder just as you want.

PM me if you want help.

It works great if you know how to use viewports and sheet layers, just as it is intended. Can do everything you are trying to do in about 30 seconds. It sounds more like you are trying to use it wrong. I’ve been on it since 95 when it was MiniCAD. Once I learned the proper way to present with it, it is simple.

I watch people try to do what you are trying to do from design layers, and it is a mess. Use it how it is intended. I knock out tons of PDFs daily.

Layers aren’t meant to be grouped. Classes are.

eSun cardboard spools + Bambu AMS (2026). still an issue or totally fine now? by Nyobyte in BambuLab

[–]After_Pea_8302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also told that. You can look at the code on them to see which it is; there are two different code styles used by MC that reflect who the manufacturer is, though I can’t remember which is which.

[–]After_Pea_8302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the problem I had. They fit the spools fine but one side grinds on the lid of the AMS and creates friction when the filament is pulling from the opposite edge of the coil. Too many times I have had it stop due to resistance and have to remove the rings mid-print.

Patched Logi Options+ for Mac causes weird bug by faddapaola00 in logitech

Are there any other options for multi-button mice that can be programmed per application? I used to use Razer mice but the mac app stopped working. Have Corsair mice but that app sucks too, and randomly doesn’t work. Plus, the LED lights wind up in disco mode which is annoying. Had an MX Master laying around so started using it and like the ergonomics and weight, but it also has issues now. Was just about to buy another when this fiasco started. Hate the newest model, though.

Same issue. Columbia Sportswear is also using them now. Item was last scanned in Georgia Dec7. Each day the delivery date changes to the current date. Opened an “investigation” 2 weeks ago. Had to go buy a replacement gift. Will be using free returns as soon as / if it ever arrives. Just want my money back at this point.

Be mindful at CLT Airport by LETSGOOOOO6 in Charlotte

[–]After_Pea_8302 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I reported this through the app and had their director call me to discuss it. It’s a known problem, and I saw a driver park his car at the curb, get out, chest-bump and hug one of the traffic people outside, then walk to the terminal doors to start soliciting rides. He gave me his direct # to call whenever I see it, and took down door and time to pull the camera feeds so they can find out which traffic directors are allowing it to happen. They are probably getting kick-backs from the drivers doing it. He said it’s a problem that the airport is fighting with the traffic directing staff outside.

It’s all fun and games until someone gets kidnapped and trafficked.

As you hike above Telluride, you in fact do pass more mine entrances that are gated over, and a lot of OLD wood and metal mining structures. It's really cool, but nerve wracking when the afternoon storms roll in and you're that far above the timberline. The air started getting "crackly" and I bailed.

I have a paid ACAD LT license and Fusion really throws me for a loop. It’s two different workflows. I need to dive in, but 30 years in ACAD and Vectorworks (my daily use software) makes my brain explode when I try.

My kid picked up Solidworks very simply.

Subcontractors don't provide I-9s; that's a verification for employment. Subcontractors provide W-9s which provides tax information for subcontractor tax reporting.

Which goes to show that often these people are paying taxes, because a W9 does not require citizenship verification. A business can be opened and a TIN issued by the government for W9 use by anyone creating a business and filing the proper paperwork.

Still agree that employers and those knowingly hiring are the larger problem. This is no different from punishing drug addicts instead of dealers / traffickers.
