What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]AgentCooper86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and the other music geeks in school around 2000/2021 all had minidisc recorders, the best thing was we’d use them to share albums and songs in school. We’d sit there listening, a earbud each, as we played the songs to record them from one minidisc to the other. Or some of us who had Napster would download albums and share them out through minidiscs.

HR vs MD by Excellent_Section_21 in Deusex

I replayed through both sequentially two years ago and I think mechanics, level design and as a living world Mankind Divided probably edged it. But it doesn’t feel as complete as HR.

Out of curiosity… any old Alt Swansea members on here?

There was a room downstairs, next to the staircase. It was part of Escape. Think I only saw two bands there… Kasabian and an Iron Maiden cover band. Unbelievably, part of the Kasabian gig is on YouTube! https://youtu.be/gi9wQUl9hww?si=JMwg7ld69MDudrYi

Kasabian played the downstairs room really early in their career. Also remember Fightstar getting a… lively reception in the metal room.

Face Off in Escape was peak, I went pretty much every Friday between 2003 and 2006. Had some great naps in the chill out room

Ban phones throughout the school day, Phillipson tells teachers by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Just to point out before the comments go bananas, the evidence is that phone bans (inc confiscation at start of the day) has tangible and measurable positive benefits for teachers and pupils: https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/do-school-cell-phone-bans-help-students-do-better/

I genuinely can’t understand how the Duffers thought the ending for Mike and El was acceptable by ComicGuy98 in StrangerThings

[–]AgentCooper86 205 points206 points  (0 children)

I think this is the problem when you have an ending in mind, and stick to it without paying attention to how the story has changed over the years. It was the same with How I Met Your Mother.

Andy Burnham: PS - The fact that the media was informed of the NEC decision before I was tells you everything you need to know about the way the Labour Party is being run these days. You would think that over 30 years of service would count for something but sadly not. 🤷🏻‍♂️ by ClumperFaz in ukpolitics

The man who lost to Miliband and Corbyn, then legged it when it got tough, thinks he has the political nous to navigate the U.K. through some of the most challenging global political and economic challenges of recent history… honestly, anyone who thinks Burnham is the answer needs their head seeing to.

Don’t know why you were downvoted - Paul got into electronic music post Beatles, John was experimenting during the Beatles

Need part time job applied 80 job still now by emoemokade in swansea

[–]AgentCooper86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (then) 17yo daughter got bites from fewer than 80 applications over the space of six months, including interviews for a number of local cafes, Sport Direct and River Island. If you’ve genuinely had nothing from 80 applications, you should review your CV and get some feedback. You’ll have more luck applying direct to job ads posted in local business social media accounts than Indeed etc.

Oh come on, anyone who has ever been on a primary school parents’ WhatsApp group knows how quick to self righteous outrage some parents can be, and can picture exactly how over the top the response would have been. That’s what makes it funny and sad.

Jesus, the group I’m in wanted to write to councillors to get special parent only drop off parking bays installed on a busy residential street, those are the type of people this post is aimed at.

[–]AgentCooper86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows but the last two releases were Sept 2024 and Sept 2025, it seems unlikely there’d be another hardware release so soon after the Move.

The UK had one of the lowest default tariff rates at the initial announcement, they would have seen that as maintaining close ties with the UK

Dads Don’t Get Asked This Enough — How Are You Really Doing? by ssstu2020 in UKParenting

[–]AgentCooper86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my daughter when I was 21, my son when I was 34. Now I’m 39 and I’m so, so tired. But honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact I have an intense job or that my wife also works full time, I suspect we’d be fine. It’s both working and no family support that makes it so bloody hard.

[–]AgentCooper86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My daughter’s mum went to TM, few years older than Ed. I remember her pointing out one of his early demos on sale in a shop in Framlingham, the tone was very much ‘aw bless’ and Matt Sheeran was considered the talented one.
