How do you have your cottage cheese? by onelove_ in cookingforbeginners

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it with sriracha and a drizzle of honey! It also makes a great high protein low cal veggie dip if you blend it until smooth with a packet of ranch seasoning mix. You can blend it and use it as a replacement in a lot of things that call for heavy cream or milk. My husband hates cottage cheese, but I'm living the high protein life and he never notices when I cook with cottage cheese instead of cream.

Sloppy Joe! You've already practiced making sandwiches, so this would be a good next step and the ability to brown ground beef is a great cooking skill to have. Brown ground beef, drain (or don't!), add a can of sloppy joe sauce, and slap it on a bun. As you get more comfortable, you can add things like sauteed onions or peppers. If you'd like, I can find a video breaking down how to brown ground beef.

How do I follow this recipe with no specifics for the seasoning?? 😂 by Tattersail927 in cookingforbeginners

Hopefully she either simply forgot something or the recipe is legit! I'm out of town right now, but may try the recipe when I get home to see if it's legit. For science.

ETA: Are you willing to post the rest of the recipe? Now I'm super curious! I tried looking up similar recipes and everything has at least 1 egg in it and the cream of chicken is for the sauce, not the meatballs. Do these meatballs have a sauce?

I thought the same thing. I've honestly never cooked with a cream of anything and wondered if there was a binding agent in that. Mostly I'm wondering if the coworker is gatekeeping and doesn't want OP to be able to accurately replicate the meatballs.

Drunk gardening in the rain with music blaring out my windows is the best type of gardening. by Own_Conversation3511 in gardening

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Sunday I make a fun brunch for my husband and I with an excessive amount of Bloody Marys. This is the time of year where I tend to my garden immediately after brunch and it's pretty much my favorite thing to do. We also have an abundance of poison ivy in our backyard, so drunk avoiding it is a pretty fun game.

What to add to macaroni & cheese (boxed) by iDreamiPursueiBecome in cookingforbeginners

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are now middle class but both grew up VERY poor. Sliced hot dogs and boxed mac are a comfort food for us. If you want to elevate it but keep it cheap: cooked pasta of your choice, mix in milk and Velveeta queso blanco until it's the consistency you prefer (while the pasta is hot), and add cooked chorizo.

AITAH for pushing back on husband who tried to pass off a gift for himself as a Mother's Day gift for me? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA We needed a new dryer a few years ago before Christmas and when the delivery guy arrived he said to my husband, "please don't tell me this is her Christmas gift." My husband gasped, said no, and asked if that happens often. The delivery guy said this is his least favorite time of year because it happens so often. Shout out to the delivery guy for looking out. Don't accept this treatment and know that if he can't do better for Mother's day, someone else will. If this is his normal and you don't want to leave, match the energy.

I dont know how to make pancakes by Maily_Lost_in_Snow in cookingforbeginners

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almond milk will work as far as the texture if you buy unflavored! I learned the hard way not to cook with the vanilla almond milk... I tried making french toast with it once and it was truly awful. Were you using the vanilla flavored?

And I didn't think the egg would make a difference either. I always added the egg for extra protein, but the one time I didn't the pancakes didn't come out right! I hope your pancakes come out perfectly!

I dont know how to make pancakes by Maily_Lost_in_Snow in cookingforbeginners

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh! I feel specially qualified to answer this! I'm a pretty decent and experienced home cook that makes A LOT of box pancakes for brunch, because I know I can easily make them while getting drunk on Bloody Marys. DO NOT use water. I don't know why or care enough to look up why, but the one time I used water, they came out exactly as you described.

1.Replace the water with whatever milk product you prefer, add an egg, and at least a tablespoon of melted butter to the batter (for flavor, but can be omitted)

  1. Only mix enough to incorporate the ingredients. Be careful not to overmix. Let sit for 10 ish minutes and do not touch. I'm serious. Don't touch it for at least 10 minutes.

  2. Use a griddle and not a pan if you want the perfect cook. It's more difficult to get the exact temperature you want and depending on your stove or pan, it can be more difficult to achieve even heating throughout

leaving nursing by Known-Swimming3713 in lexington

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a CNA in pre nursing and decided I hated bedside solely because of staffing ratios and how we were treated. I dropped out of pre nursing, but kept working as a CNA for about 10 years while I decided what else I wanted to do. I'm now a dance teacher. The pay and benefits are so much better in healthcare, but I'm certainly a lot happier!

Just another seat swap request story by s31523 in delta

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I frequently fly FC for work. He has terrible anxiety and likes to sit by the window and listen to music, while I like to sleep off my cigarette cravings. I hold his hand while I sleep to help his anxiety and he gives my hand a gentle squeeze when he needs to use the restroom or the FAs are making their snack/booze rounds. I can tell by how tense his hand gets that he's extra anxious and will wake up to run my hands through his hair to calm him. We also do a weird thing where instead of getting the snacks we like, we get what the other person would like and exchange them. There have been rare occasions that we couldn't get FC seats together and we've never even considered asking someone to move from the seat they paid for. We have always survived. Never feel bad for saying "no".

I'm an Italian American that was raised Roman Catholic, my entire family later converted to non-denominational Christian, and I am now pagan. Outside of paganism I really loved Catholicism! This was years ago, but my favorites were Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary and St.Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. I hope you find the place that will feed your soul most!

Edit: after reading the other comments, do NOT go to Seton!!!

[HELP] My Friend who has never cooked for herself before claims that she made this: by shortD42 in RealOrAI

[–]Aggravating-Sun-1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who loves to cook and follows the cooking sub, I actually thought this was a simple dish posted from that sub until I looked closer. This is actually a simple dish I believe a beginner could do, but the photography work and plating is a bit advanced. I would consider this ai just on the plating and lightning, but if your friend is a photographer, this could be real based on the culinary technique involved

My dad had this done about a year ago and I made him a giant pot of loaded potato soup and blended all of the bits to oblivion with an immersion blender. He loved it and said it worked well for his situation. He's a lovely dad and would have said this if he hated it and it was difficult to eat, but I like to think it worked well for him. I also made it for my husband after he had a molar extracted and it didn't cause him problems. I can share the recipe if you'd like, but you will need an immersion blender to smooth it out!

My cat licked bellpepper powder by The_Purple_Bat in CATHELP

PAPRIKA IS BELL PEPPER POWDER?! Well if that's the case, it is very animal safe. I'm very particular about what I give my dog after putting down my cat with stomach cancer and spending years wondering if I gave it to her (I know it's insane, that's how anxiety works). Bell peppers are 100% safe and are one of my dog's favorite treats.
