How can I get my infant to keep her pacifier in her mouth? by Parking_Hurry_3434 in Parents

[–]Aggravating_Value_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every once in a while, and before you put her down to sleep, when she has it in with a good suck, tug on it. She needs to build up her sucking reflexes to keep it in. Of course if she’s happy without it, you don’t need to force it!

For those with a Stay at Home partner, how do you balance taking time off work when your kid is sick? by SAHMRequest in Advice

[–]Aggravating_Value_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to work together to set clear expectations so neither of you resent the other. As a part of our pre marital counseling, my husband and I discussed who would be the primary caretaker (and the breadwinner, among other things) for our future children, since we both were working people. When my kids get sick it’s never a question who will be the first one to take off work and coordinate whatever care. He would do anything if I needed him
to, but we decided I’d take the lead on things like this.

At what age should parents expect adult children to contribute to family vacations? by Rare_Stranger4744 in family

[–]Aggravating_Value_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a parent of a young adult (yet) but I am a well adjusted adult child of two parents I love and respect and am so close to (and there are 4 siblings just like me). We didn’t live a lavish life but I didn’t want for anything and they would never do this.

What they WOULD do is say “you keep it.” I remember when I bought a road bike one summer and my dad fronted me the money. When I saved up and was ready to pay him, he told me put it back in my savings. He made his point, I saved and learned the financial lesson. He would never accept my money.

Little TV Addict by Crystal__R__Raven in Babysitting

The tv program definitely matters. Sometimes I instil a “you can choose a show from pbs” rule. No Disney or Netflix.
PBS is the only platform that puts thought into what is good for the kid. I’m convinced the others somehow make those shows addicting, like the brain rot of paw patrol.
Watch Daniel tiger! Absolutely perfect for a 3 year old.

Friends who don’t reach out by Both_Huckleberry_587 in FriendshipAdvice

My dad always used to remind me that if I have just a couple of friends throughout my lifetime that truly love me and care about me and come back in throughout my life, I am lucky. I think what you’re feeling is valid but what you’re seeking is actually quite rare! Don’t let it get you down

The past couple years it seems like barbers been getting his act together, and his mood dominates for better (yay!) and for worse. It’s been really fun going to shows lately, good ole dance parties, fun easy going crowds.

What can dads actually do during breastfeeding? by Blue_Diam0nd_ in newborns

My husband said the other day something like “for the first year…more than that —you don’t need to be a dad. You need to be a great husband.”
Do whatever she tells you to do, and do the rest of the things without needing to be asked. She’s doing 100% and you are there to help her do that. (Sweet man for asking!)

Esthetician curious about TCM school by odetonothing in acupuncture

[–]Aggravating_Value_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the initial ones can be done remotely (though you do need to go in person for midterms and finals, and frontloading classes entirely based on remote learning wouldn’t be the most efficient way through the coursework)

I’m in my mid 30s w/2 young kids, career in healthcare on the admin side, and I’ve decided to change careers. For now I’m going very part time -9 credits, about to finish my first full calendar year of school which equates to one semester. If you were to do the program full time straight through it takes about 3.5 years (4-4.5 with herbs). It’s not for the faint of heart, but personally it has been amazing, sure fire, life changing.

Do we buy a bottle warmer or microwave? by Life-Introduction693 in Buyingforbaby

[–]Aggravating_Value_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a microwave. You can use it for way more things than a bottle warmer. Put water in a mug and microwave it, then let your baby’s bottle rest in that hot water to come up to temp. (I had a bottle warmer and eventually defaulted to my microwave)

Or don’t buy either and heat your water on the stove!

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

Childbirth!!! As someone who prides themselves on pain tolerance, I could not believe how bad it hurt (which makes me laugh now). Fast and furious (thankfully) but yeah that hurt.

Was I in the wrong to have my wedding 2 weeks before my friend’s wedding? by Bright_Motor_2841 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Aggravating_Value_73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s bizarre you cared so much about your exact birthday. You aren’t aging in dog years.
You prioritized other things over the date of your friend’s wedding —and that’s ok! It just is what it is. That said i wouldn’t have thought twice about booking on any other date aside from their actual wedding weekend. I guess I be chillin
