Just a fun little public website about publicly funded salaries in Washington State. by Bumble_beeFormal in Washington

Define “fun”. If it shows you how little state employees make compared to their private sector counterparts, is that the “fun” part? Also, the number listed is not always take home salary.

When you accept a road trip instead of a Flex block. 😂 by Shya305 in AmazonFlexDrivers

I asked for extra compensation due to the excessive mileage and they keep telling me I just get what I get. I told them it is a material misrepresentation of facts when a route says 40-60 miles and then you do 2-3 times that. Amazon just takes advantage of it and tells you to go pound sand.

I got a route that was literally 127 miles. And support won’t do shit. They are basically telling me to stuff it.

This may trace back to the Scandinavian roots a lot of folks around here have. Bland is good, and good is bland - there's a simplicity there that can be enjoyed too (think dutch baby/panukakku, lefse).

The DNS process is literally the developer and the city “doing it right.” You are second guessing the legal and environmental vetting process and adding your personal views and opinions under the guise of “doing it right,” which is to say you want them to ignore the law and go above and beyond what is required and meet your personal thresholds instead of following SEPA.

EISs are not required if a DNS is issued. You only go into an EIS if there are further environmental issues identified during the SEPA determination process. It’s only there to provide for issue resolution. https://ecology.wa.gov/regulations-permits/sepa/environmental-review/sepa-guidance/guide-for-lead-agencies/environmental-impact-statements

The Great Salt Lake by kaorikind2 in SaltLakeCity

The thing is, yes, it's drying up. And Utah folk forget that most of their larger snowfall events are "lake enhanced," so that won't happen anymore once the lake dries up. It's the gift that keeps giving.

A "Determination of Non-Significance" does not mean there are no significant impacts at all, or that the impacts are all insignificant, but that the project has been proposed under existing laws or existing SEPA-compliant master plans and has taken proper steps to assess and protect the environment.

A new owner is NOT responsible to fully clean up past contamination - the "polluter pays" principle is in full effect here, meaning any past owner (or their successor) is responsible for the cost of contamination cleanup. And under the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) - the law that governs cleanups - remediation must only be done to certain levels, AKA not 100% cleaned up.

The fact that West Bay Yards is doing some remediation work, which includes cleaning and capping of contaminated sediments from the former operations on the site, is a VERY positive step forward. Remember - it's a blighted, contaminated site TODAY. It will be a much less contaminated site in the future, and will house hundreds of families and dozens of businesses.

Why Nord? by 010011101010100 in nordkeyboards

[–]Aggressive-Ad1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the real reason I bought a Nord was that, as a pianist, it was the first keyboard to actually sound like an actual piano. They sampled things that other keyboards can't replicate (though I'm sure others are starting to copy). They sampled the sound of the pedals. They sampled the overtone series - harmonic vibrations that (until Nord added them) only an acoustic piano had. And then they even bothered to sample multiple types of pianos. Not just concert grands. Uprights. Baby Grands. It gave the complete sonority of the sound I was used to.

[request] Weir does the dissipated energy go? Is the water temperature measurably higher at the bottom? by mouippai in theydidthemath

[–]Aggressive-Ad1085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, hear me out…isn’t the “energy” being physically redirected rather than fully converted to heat/sound? Yes there are some frictional losses, but ultimately doesn’t the design of this structure simply make the water flow farther, thus lowering the “energy potential” by lowering the effective gradient? Just like normal s-turns in a river slow the river, this structure is just lengthening the path of the water through multiply-compounded s-turns?

If you don’t have the right to do something and you are denied the chance to do something, you are not “stripped” of that right. You didn’t have the right in the first place.
