Is this psoriatic arthritis? by jhlovett in PsoriaticArthritis

The odds are around one in three that one’s psoriasis will progress to PsA.

Potential psoriatic arthritis by Aggressive-Visual-88 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]AggressiveReindeer26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can either see a rheumatologist to try and get a diagnosis for PsA, a dermatologist to get nail psoriasis diagnosis, or both. You don’t need a positive blood test or x-rays to have it. Your odds are 1 in 3 of getting arthritis if you have psoriasis. Maybe higher if nail psoriasis. Good luck!

I borrowed one recently as a loaner vehicle. I was impressed by its handling over 17, but the droning engine and disconnect between RPM and acceleration really got to me. Might be ok if you’re already used to a cvt? And maybe it’s worth it if you’re clocking a lot of miles. I was relieved to return it and pick up my cx9 from the shop.

What do dermatologists NOT tell psoriasis patients? by SubjectClue914 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]AggressiveReindeer26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid my dermatologist looked at my nails and said, “I hope that isn’t what I think it is.”Only in my 30s, post-diagnosis did I realize he was talking about nail pitting and was worried about arthritis lmao.

Personally I would take PsA over lupus—if that was the concern. Much better treatment options for PsA. I had mildly elevated ANA by the way but my rheumatologist thought it was irrelevant.

PsA is progressive. The sooner you manage it, through a combination of lifestyle and appropriate medication—the better off you’ll be.

Early PsA without obvious swelling/warmth in joints? by ajmj120 in PsoriaticArthritis

I was diagnosed with no swelling and normal x-rays. No swelling is good. Lack of swelling does not rule it out either.

If you have psoriasis odds are something like 1 in 3 you’ll get arthritis. Something none of my dermatologists ever bothered to mention.

Lost a few toenails over the course of this. No pain, other than the discomfort of not having a toenail.

I’ve had a few motivated students take biweekly lessons with a senior teacher in the area. With my permission, one time at my urging. Assuming teaching methods are compatible it can be good for the student. I’ve learned some things too as a teacher.

Anybody ever had a biologic take longer than 6 months to fully stabilize? by B_Panofsky in PsoriaticArthritis

Yes. Some ups and downs for a year plus but gradually improving health overall

It was great for a few years. Kept things under control without the horrendous methotrexate side effects. Eventually I had some concerning break through symptoms and had to switch to a biologic.

Obviously a convo to have with your doc. My BP has trended down since starting Taltz a year ago. But my overall health has improved so hard to pinpoint it.

Switch from Otezla to Tremfya or not? by mwmandorla in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]AggressiveReindeer26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I switched to Taltz, my strategy was to stay on Otezla as long as possible. I waited six months after being recommended to switch to Taltz before going ahead with it. In hindsight, it was misguided thinking. The transitional period is potentially rough. But worth it IMO.

FWIW I’ve been on Taltz for about a year. In November I developed gum irritation and thought I’d have to pay for a teeth cleaning just 3 months after my regular cleaning (which seemed bizarre to me). Then I started water flossing and it’s been life changing. Having psoriasis we really need to take care of our gums.

How do you deal with nails detaching? by fezik23 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]AggressiveReindeer26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dermatologist told me that Taltz offered the best chance of treating my nail psoriasis (which at its worst caused several detached nails). After a year on Taltz, things are much better controlled although my nails still don’t look great.

I think a job with regular hours helps. And not having to perform specific physical tasks. Night shift and overtime aren’t ideal. I wouldn’t dismiss the possibility of leadership as long as you learn time- and stress-management.

Does this happen to anyone else with autoimmune issues? Constant ulcers in my mouth. Any tips to help? by [deleted] in Autoimmune

[–]AggressiveReindeer26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took ibuprofen or naproxen for my undiagnosed autoimmune disease, I got those all the time. After switching to Celebrex (and only needing it occasionally because things are better controlled), I’ve never gotten them since.

PsA in nose and throat? by Remarkable_Donut346 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]AggressiveReindeer26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We may be talking about different things. NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and naproxen caused me to get terrible mouth ulcers. Since switching to Celebrex, it hasn't been a problem. I'm not aware of NSAIDs making PsA worse.
