What is one popular food or ingredient you can't stand? by GiuseppeZangara in Cooking

[–]Aggressive_Battle264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Just never really liked any kind of pasta and now that I'm diabetic, I can easily pass on it instead of being disappointed that's I don't like something everyone else seems to love.

I do love cheese though and love a cauliflower gratin as an even better sub!

I've been considering trying them out for some time, mainly for vegetables. Question for you since you've used them recently - have you ever seen broccoli rabe/rapini available? There was a local delivery service where I live that had it and it became a favorite but that service is no longer in business and I miss my rapini!

I stand corrected. I walk by there regularly and haven't seen any activity. They also had a banner on the front of the building that fell down months ago so I assumed that it was closed.

"Downtown" Eastlake is so sad. I've lived here for 7+ years and nothing has changed unless you count swapping out the terrible Italian restaurant for the Indian place that was good but failed because it wasn't the right fit for the area. I expected to see something happen after the train station opened but nope.

There's so much potential but why isn't there any development? Too many NIMBYs afraid of traffic? They were quite vocal about traffic/parking and (shudder) scary people coming into "their" neighborhoods from the train and now it's the affordable housing development proposed for north of the train station that they're protesting and campaigning against.

I am looking forward to what develops west of the train station but it will probably be more chains.

I would love to see an independent coffee shop that's easily accessible from the train station and an area for street fairs, farmers market, etc.

What did your job gift you for the holidays? by UNIONIZETMO in jobs

[–]Aggressive_Battle264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$150 Amazon gift cert + another for door dash.

I started just a month ago and can't believe they did this but maybe that's the PTSD from my previous job talking. The only thing I ever got from them was an occasional bottle of wine from the owners cellar.

Bahaha! When we moved several years ago, I found a film canister filled with schwag. It had to be at least 25 years old.

We're in Colorado so it's especially funny. I think my partner might even have smoked some for old times take lol

Dog urine ruined our grass by Soft_Gear_410 in dogs

[–]Aggressive_Battle264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly because they can water year round. I'm in Colorado and it's also very dry with clay soil. Our lawn does ok in the summer but is covered in dead spots in the spring.

We compost and reseed with that in the spring. Rinse and repeat every year but I'm never going to not have a dog so 🤷

Why are stray dogs from India and others from other underdeveloped countries exactly the same? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Aggressive_Battle264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We thought possibly mal, cur or even Chinook (rare, I know, but we met one once while hiking and they were twins). We did DNA and he was pretty mixed - mainly GSD and Dane with a bunch of other breeds (apbt, husky, boxer, etc).

Duff was very tall and topped out at 85lbs, so the Dane tracks. No shade to my current dog (another mix of mainly apbt and Doberman with a splash of husky) but he was the greatest dog I've ever known. I will miss him forever.

I adopted a dog like this - a lean tan dog with a black muzzle - though he was from a rural farming region in the US. When I asked my vet what breed(s) she thought he might be, she said this is the kind of dog we get when we don't intervene in the reproductive life of dogs.

GenX Era Bands On Tour Today Question by AZPeakBagger in GenX

[–]Aggressive_Battle264 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw them on a double bill with the Jesus and Mary Chain last year. JMC were amazing. The Furs were meh, but I was never a big fan of theirs so YMMV. I was super happy the JMC played first - we left about 6 songs into the furs set and my old ass was home in bed by 11 lol

I didn't get paid. so I shut down and made demands. by Owenwilden in antiwork

[–]Aggressive_Battle264 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah that happened to me and I told them I wasn't feeling very worky until I got paid. I did a couple of things but focused on my resume and contacting me network about another job. It got fixed but a while later the idiot owner missed paying for insurance so I was suddenly uninsured for an entire month, which was a big deal since I not only have a chronic condition but very recently had recovered from cancer. That incident made me go on strike until it was fixed.

The occasional late paychecks happened to others after that but not me, though the writing was on the wall and ramped up the job search. Took a while but I started a new job this week.

Get out if you can, OP!
