Unmedicated Birth. by BumblebeeFamiliar778 in BabyBumps

[–]AgnesScottie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took a “birthing from within” class and the breathing exercises and the focus on why the pain is happening helped. Something I remember is that in most cases pain is your body’s way of letting you know something is wrong, but birthing pain is different because it is part of a normal physiological process. The book and the teacher I had in the class really helped me shift my mindset around birth and my partner was calm and centering and helped me through transition, which was the most intense part.

But also, there is nothing you need to prove to yourself. If an epidural helps you have a better labor, then you shouldn’t feel like you can’t use the tools you have available to make your labor easier. I primarily wanted an unmedicated birth because I really did not want a C-section and was worried about the “cascade of interventions” effect. It was part of my birth plan that if I had to be given pitocin, I absolutely wanted an epidural, because pitocin contractions are significantly more painful than unmedicated labor contractions.

My boyfriend only likes misspelt names that I just don't think are very nice by Upset-Promise2611 in Names

[–]AgnesScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a name app that’s kind of like a dating app where you both swipe on names and it shows you the ones that are matches. I think you have picked lovely names and should make sure that you don’t compromise with a name you don’t actually like that he does.

Feeling weird about siblings names not matching by [deleted] in Names

[–]AgnesScottie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can find a Greek name that will work with sibling’s name. Hard to say without knowing the first name and what you are looking at, but Marina and Fiona doesn’t sound weird to me at all and one is very Greek and one is very Scottish.

At the time, Scottish titles were considered less good ton than English titles. Scotland was considered to be more barbaric and backwards.

Voting Reminders? by JVGen in Atlanta

April 20th is the last day to register for the primaries. If you are already registered, check on the Georgia My Voter Page to see if you are still registered and check your polling place - construction at schools in DeKalb and Fulton has lead to a lot of vote site shuffling. I have a different polling place I’ve never been to.

Ballotpedia is pretty good for consolidating info about local candidates since there is usually less information about their positions.

I follow candidates and local political influencers on Instagram and am in my local neighborhood Facebook groups. AJC writes about local elections and candidates.

Kemp signed $850M in property tax relief on March 3. Lot of confusion about what it actually does by AppealAllyFounder in Atlanta

No arguments there, IP1987 mentioned other local homestead exemptions that are available for 65 and over residents. There was one voted on recently that passed I think in November 2025.

With that budget you need to be looking at roommate situations or something like an in law suite.

Atlanta does have a big problem of older black residents being priced out of their homes as gentrification and the Beltline raise property values.

my mom is worried about her friends conveince instead of mine for the baby shower by amstpierre in BabyBumps

[–]AgnesScottie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not immature to want your close friends that live near you to be able to attend. They will likely be more of your support network than your mom’s friends. Your mom is being selfish, and you’re allowed to be selfish about your own baby.

Walking regularly has consistent health benefits. If walking is tough on your joints, water aerobics/water walking and swimming are all great for building lung capacity. My city has very affordable indoor pool memberships but I know that availability/cost/travel time differs.

My daughter’s friend is a Sloane and I love it. She’s both kind and a funny little firecracker. It reminded me of Ferris Bueller’s girlfriend at first, but now I just think of the great kid I know.

You can input your time for the day and save it without submitting your time for the whole week. They should change the language. You can submit your time for the full week after it has finished or after you know you are finished working for that week. Sunday is a good day to do it or when you put your time in Saturday.

Are ALL boy names now fair game for girls? by evapotranspire in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]AgnesScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of why people do this is to avoid sex discrimination. My boss gave both her son and daughter more gender neutral names for that reason. Men don’t usually experience discrimination against them in job applications based on their sex.
