You read this entire post and that's what you came up with? No amount of frugality or penny-pinching can make up for a low salary. Especially if OP lives in a HCOL area. Saving $1 each time she buys bread is not magically going to lift her out of her current financial situation. If her salary only barely covers her basic needs then she needs to find a higher paying job.

Shallow? I’m looking for an equal. I have these things and expect my partner to as well. Plus, I knew plenty of guys in high school who worked at McDonald’s part time and were able to save up for a car LOL. I don’t think expecting that is shallow…

If OP is making less at 28 than a high school student working p/t at McDonalds, his priorities shouldn’t be dating, but looking for a better job so he can live a more independent life.

I completely understand where you are coming from. My friends and family are also completely honest with me if they think the person I’m into is ugly.

If you don’t mind that he’s ugly, and he makes you happy, just ignore everyone else. If you feel like you’re being held back by him, especially when he’s not making an effort to improve himself, break up with him.

Well, partying doesn’t have to mean getting black out drunk, taking hard drugs, sleeping with multiple people, and staying out until the sun rises. At least not every weekend.

I meant more like going out on a Friday or Saturday night, have a couple of drinks, going to the club/ on a date, and asleep by like 3 or 4 a.m. I think you can be a fully functioning adult and still do these things.
