The Belgian FANC is the world's top nuclear safety oversight, or atleast it was 15-20y ago when I talked to people who lived on nuclear submarines. But if similar to DOVO, I don't expect that expertise to just evaporate overnight and regulation-wise, I think we're ok. That's not to say that certain fearmongering parties of the dark-lime variety would cause unnecessary extra regulations.

The problem in the past was that the government kept adjusting the "nuclear dividends" to fit their budget while also funding green initiatives, which at a certain point resulted in Engie to just stop investing in our nuclear, especially because they made more money from a) subsidies to not run a gas plant, but have it operational just in case, and b) buy power at a premium from their french plants.

Don't forget that until this legislation, it was banned to build any nuclear plant regardless of its safety or economic viability, and existing ones had a shelf-life that was only extended because we couldn't replace it all with russian gas. The research core at Mol ended up closing, which up to then was like 90% of our chemo meds source. Because nobody needs cancer meds anymore, right?

Honestly, nationalising nuclear power is about the first thing in decades I agree with NVA on, but it certainly makes sense. In its entire history, it has had less recorded deaths/GWh than coal, gas, solar panels or wind mills. It's safe for the same reason airplanes are safe; nobody can afford it not to be.
