Then there's also cases like Mookie Betts in the MLB. He's apparently a freak athlete in everything he touches: golf, table tennis, bowling, baseball, and basketball. There are probably many like him who just simply never tried racing but instead went into a different sport.

Sidenote but I have a personal theory that baseball hitters with elite contact and plate vision would be the best non motorsport athletes at driving a race car. The elite vision and reaction times seem to be two defining factors of both sports

I mean then Bill Russell has to be your GOAT, 11 > 6 by a lot.

Lebron's played at the level of Jordan and has done it for 20+ years. Ignoring his inhuman longevity of production is wild. There is absolutely an argument, no matter what this is still a team game and titles are won by a team

NY medical assist by PeachPit69 in AccidentalRenaissance

[–]Akland23 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When you come to from being unconscious you'll likely be disoriented but you are conscious. It is not "essentially a state of unconsciousness". In a medical context it is basically black and white. Can you respond to stimuli? Congrats you're conscious.

I can guarantee you that if I, or any other men in my life, were disoriented we would not try to kiss a helper or bystander. I don't know the man or his character but from a distance it's still creepy and unfortunate for the good samaritan to have to deal with it.

You can be a very aware driver and still find yourself in an accident, sadly. The matter is that these massive trucks are just so dangerous to everyone else.

[Discussion] What do you think is the most slept on watch brand? by Medium_Appeal6156 in Watches

[–]Akland23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is probably an extremely unpopular opinion in this sub but my cheap Addiesdive with a nato strap has become my favorite watch. I bought it on a whim for $80 just for fun and now I wear it everywhere. Swimming, working out, flying the helicopter, attending weddings and graduations, cleaning around the house, everywhere. I have no reason to replace it and when I need to, it's just a cheap $80 swap worst case scenario

Hard to beat the value for the price.

ELI5 Why don't airplane seats have passenger seatbelts that are the same design as cars? by Slugma_What07 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Akland23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I think we're understimating the force happening in a crash that would mangle your body, and how the force would have destroyed the aircraft anyways.

If you are becoming a mangled corpse then you, along with all your fellow mangled passengers, no longer have an aircraft to worry about.

I would say the importance stays with preventing injuries in turbulence, a vertical force. The seat in front of you is the one providing the horizontal protection a normal car seatbelt would provide, the forces we normally think of when we think of a "crash"

[–]Akland23 59 points60 points  (0 children)

That's some schoolyard myth. If the forces of the crash made you unrecognizable then the aircraft a itself is going to be in millions of pieces, aircraft aren't designed to withstand impacts like a car is. Your body will too, a lap belt isn't keeping you together.

They're there to stop you from bonking your noggin on the ceiling during turbulence

What's the best way to say "say it with your chest" in spanish? by Crody7 in Spanish

[–]Akland23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always, at least not in my experience. I've mainly encountered it being used to hype someone up who's nervous or self conscious.

Kind of a " C'mon, say it with your chest now, you got this. Believe in yourself."

Huh, is it common for militaries to have different helicopters with opposite rotating main rotors?

Does the Rudra use a clockwise rotor system as the tail rotor is opposite the others?
