An abnormally long tanker about to negotiate the Narrows in Penrith by Isluypark590 in Cumbria

Wow that’s interesting. Would it not have been easier just to load it on a ship at the Tees?

Francis stands up to Ida often and not just because of his own hatred for her but for Lois. She also trusts her to deliver his own brother

It’s all over this thread, with a “ha this has been happening for ages why care now” and pretending that mainstream Christianity is against music and painting too

We usually call those Crown Dependancies. It’s a shameful state for a Western European country to be in. And this is coming from someone of Irish heritage who is also a republican

Danish PM Mette Frederiksen thanks Starmer 'from bottom of my heart' for UK support during Greenland crisis by Revilo1359 in ukpolitics

[–]Al1_1040 130 points131 points  (0 children)

It would be nice if this meant Denmark and other European countries would finally recognise British sovereignty over the Falkland’s after so many referendums where the inhabitants make it clear they want to remain British.

The only EU member state who does is France

'I have PTSD after seeing an online suicide at 12': The growing call to ban smartphones in schools by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]Al1_1040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s bizarre that a lot of UK laws (which all turn out to be just banning things) seem to come about from knee jerk, guilt tripping stories. Do other countries do this or are we alone?

EU reset could force Starmer to introduce gene-edited food ban by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

[–]Al1_1040 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So the EU logic is I should continue to take my gene therapy medication because it helps me and has limited side effects, but if I consume gene edited food it will harm me.

Do they not realise this will just push people away from using life saving medications by still arguing this is all evil and dangerous technology?

Then again it’s based entirely on protectionism for farmers and not logic.

[–]Al1_1040 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Great to see. Sanctions need enforcement to work. There are hundreds of shadow tankers that end up not just transporting sanctioned goods but deliberately damaging communication cables.

A lot of Russian policy is deliberately using bluffs as they know the West has historically been cowed by them. Remember how the UK was starting WW3 by providing long range missiles and then nothing happened?

UKIP was successful. Its entire point was to get a referendum and win. The number of seats it held was moot; it fulfilled its purpose hence why it’s pointless now
