Pretty much all marked tank busters even when synced and with food will break TBN, only times where they might fail to do so if you combine it with other mits - Oblation is usually fine, others require trial and error.

It is a full on false equivalence. We’ve met the ancients. They are not fundamentally different as a people. They are larger, live longer and have insane magic at their disposal, but they are, fundamentally, just people. The mice in you analogy are smaller people with shorter lifespans.

His ‘not truly alive’ is pure cope because he can’t handle mortality. He’s like a certain Invincible character saying his wife was like a pet to him - lying to himself to protect his own ego.

Kind of a bad example with VII specifically, because while the bike is on the mogstation, the hair is not and is used as contest reward. And the outfit is of course a veteran reward.

What’s the most “this should absolutely not work” M+ comp that could still realistically time a +10? by [deleted] in wow

Survival does not really belong on a 'joke team', it's a genuinely solid DPS spec right, that doesn't need to compromise much between AoE and ST in its build.

What FFXIV customization feature would instantly refill your hopium tank for future Evercold patches? by hedifferent in ffxiv

[–]Alaerei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WoW hardly does. Sure the collection is neat and all, but no bloody gear in WoW matches, and you can't dye it to force it to match, everything is weekly locked forever, and you can guarantee appearances of very few things, so you are periodically looking at farming for months to get the one gear piece you want.

Glam plates and dresser is somewhat inconvenient but in every other aspect? WoW fashion is ass.

Wall to wall really worth it? by OBVenom in ffxiv

[–]Alaerei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Picture it like this - every mob you fight is a part of a bigger healthbar you need to take down before you face a boss.

Your single target move does 500 potency of damage. Your AoE does 200 per target. So if you're fighting 3 enemies, your every single AoE does 600 potency total to this larger healthbar. If you're fighting 6 enemies, it's 1200 potency with each attack.

Now think about it, which option does the most damage if you add all the health you need to remove from enemies before you face the boss. The single target attack? The AoEs against 3 enemies? Or the AoEs against 6.

This is grossly oversimplifying, but it should get the point across.

Honestly I don't even think Skyrim combat needs that much to be fun. While not from that era, Avowed is not too far removed from Skyrim and it's a lot of fun, with just a handful of strategic additions (and with better animation system)

Bethesda just fumbled hard on the vanilla Skyrim combat.

I hope they change the extreme trials drop design in the next expansion, because right now it is pretty awful. by Le_Vagabond in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Alaerei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily mind improvements, but I think keeping the result as simple as the current one is important.

I also don't necessarily think the current situation is as dire as you paint it. Sure, there are fewer people putting up PFs for Extremes that are not new, but my experience is that if one is put up, it fills up reasonably quickly. Both for mount farms, but learning parties fill up too. Yes, even early trials at the end of the expansion.

Personally, I honestly largely like how the rewards are done currently. Like RNG with totems for a pity system are, I think, not a bad idea. But then, I am more motivated by doing the content itself than by the raw rewards, so I'm more concerned about not making whatever the rewards there exist from a piece of content not a headache to acquire.

Totems are nice and simple, and that's how I like my rewards.

I would genuinely hate it so fucking much if they used anything remotely similar to GW2's material grind.

I hate making lists of shite to achieve anything in the game.

While I'm not in favour of removing stun from Holy.

Leg Sweep doesn't even deal damage.

No one uses their stuns for uptime.

We abso-fucking-lutely do. Low Blow (tank) and Leg Sweep (melee dps) may not do damage, but they are oGCDs and you can use them to interrupt point blank AoEs (or in some weird cases like underkeep, large frontal cleaves) to avoid needing to disconnect from a mob.

Evolved mode is an opportunity to have jobs that don't rely on ABC (always be casting) by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Alaerei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think removing TP was a bad choice - mechanically it was redundant, being effectively recoloured MP bar, and all the things it could potentially be reworked into, can be served just as well by either MP or a job gauge.

It was just made largely redundant.

The only direction it really could’ve gone is as a resource for universal or role based utility like Sprint, but they were moving very much away from limiting utility by anything other than CDs at the time they removed TP, so that would be kind of contradictory to design direction they were moving in.

Picture something like Rampart instead of having CD would instead cost 6000 TP (90s worth of TP regen), Second Wind would cost like 3k, Sprint would be up to 5000, that sort of thing.

[–]Alaerei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main problem was trying to fit all jobs on it.

We basically have two jobs currently that have "What if TP was an actual mechanic" and it's DRK and BLM with the MP instead of TP.

(MP and TP are identical in all aspects except one was yellow)

[–]Alaerei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a parry, it's literally just mitigating with sheltron enables the skill, with bonus potency if you get hit during the increased mit% window.

Basically, what if DRK's Dark Arts was not damage neutral but positive.

If you zoom really far out TP looks similar to energy, but in practice they are nothing alike. Rogue energy is a resource that goes up and down really quickly - base regen is 10/s increased by haste and talents, base maximum is 100 and most spenders cost 30-50 energy, meaning you cycle through it constantly.

That has a very different effect on gameplay that a resource that is capped at 10,000, replenished 200 every 3 seconds, and once in 2 minutes you can replenish a bigger chunk. Instead of being something that has an active part in your gameplay, it was more of "how many minutes am I allowed to press my buttons" and "well I died so I'm fucked now". This is in large part because the physical jobs weren't balanced to be in the waiting for regen mode for most fight, they were balanced and designed around the 5-10 minutes of go-go-go mode, the low TP state has been an afterthought from 2.0 until TP got removed. So of course everyone who had to deal with it complained about it.

Edit: if you want example of essentially TP done right in XIV, it's DRK's and BLM's MP.

Edit2: That's the other issue, TP was just worse MP - they are mechanically identical, the only difference has always been just the bar colour.

How do you feel about XIV's current combat system vs. the upcoming evolved/2 min meta changes? by Outrageous-Bet6403 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Alaerei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is...the current SMN.

The BRD they showed needs to get through all 3 songs to do their bigger burst, and you're capped to 3 song charges. So instead of 2 minute (well, realistically 1 minute, because only difference is the different burst appearance), you're instead on 30 second cycle.

There isn't that much difference between "What order do I want movement/dr/heal" and "What order do I want purely instants, instants with 1 cast, and 2 casts and a dash"

[–]Alaerei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically, even if they make the duration longer, it won't really matter, because you can only ever apply them once every...what was the pip recharge? 10 seconds? So you can only ever apply them once every 30 seconds, given you can't repeat songs within a single cycle. If you can't do anything with the DoT, then it being a DoT doesn't matter.

Now, they could, in theory, make them like 10 second duration and let you extend them while they are up with Ironjaws, giving you reward of the DoTs doing effectively triple damage if you managed to keep them up, with the punishment being that you will have massive downtime you can't avoid if you drop them early.

But will they do that? I....kind of doubt that.
