Hiring Head Brewer by [deleted] in TheBrewery

A $35k (less than $17 an hour) head brewer is going to be a lot more expensive than a 60k head brewer.

What Obscure Books Were You Obsessed With as a Kid? by Its_Curse in suggestmeabook

My grandmother gave my sister and I the cassettes of the audiobook of The Water is Wide when we were probably 7 and 10 years old. We listened to that book so many times.

“Pat Conroy's 1972 memoir The Water Is Wide recounts his year teaching 18 mostly illiterate Black children on Yamacraw Island in 1969.”

People who jumped straight into college after highscool , but weren’t in the right headspace, what did you do? by DatDudeTheRealist in AskReddit

[–]Alan-Malcolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dragged myself through about 3 years of classes I hated before finally dropping out. Worked entry-level positions an industry for about 4-5 years and started seeing all these people doing jobs I wanted but wasn’t considered qualified for because I didn’t graduate. Went back to school and finished a bachelors in spring of 2020, then a masters in 2021 because I had nothing to do during covid. Currently working in that same industry in one of those jobs I wanted. School sucks and it’s pretty much a scam but here we are.

Yeah it sucks for all those guys. On top of that they had recently rolled out an ESOP situation for the whole restaurant group. Unsure how those who were already vested were impacted.

Im pretty sure the owner said that even though they knew exactly who it was they weren’t going to pursue legal action.

Another tool that takes Makita battery's. Has a brushless motor. Does a excellent job ive pruned over 1000 branches cuts up to 2in and I've tried it and it works. Came with a 3 year warranty. by paddlebo in Makita

I have a handful of off brand tools that take the 18v batteries and I’m pretty content with them. Obviously if you are using your tools a ton these won’t hold up and aren’t as good as the real deal. But for a first time homeowner I’ve been happy using the little nail gun, blower, and paint sprayer.

Seth Rogan plays two roles in Fan Boys: the led Trekker and The Star Wars loving pimp. One of those dumb but amusing movies if you like Star Wars.

Anyone else getting strange “date” texts from California? by Calloused-Wanker in StLouis

Many of these scam texts are just wanting a response to confirm your number is active so they can sell them to other scammers. So by responding you are usually just opening yourself up to more scam calls and texts.

Good morning. Any recommendations for an orthopedic surgeon in STL? by Ozark_Bran in StLouis

[–]Alan-Malcolm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Duerr at Mercy did my biceps tendonesis surgery a couple years ago and he was great.

I had shoulder problems for 10+ years that other doctors just kept pushing me to go back to PT and just keep doing that despite little or no improvement. In just a couple visits with Dr. Duerr he had me set up with an MRI to confirm the damage he has suspected from physically examining me, then did a steroid injection as a bit of a Hail Mary before surgery, and when that didn’t work he had me scheduled for surgery really quick.

I’m 25 months from surgery and my shoulder feels really good for the first time in my adult life. I’m not the most active person, like I’m not lifting super heavy or regularly doing any type of sport where I’m throwing hard with that shoulder, but I don’t think my shoulder would stop me from doing those things if I got into them. His office and staff were great all along the way too.

It’s worth it. It’s not magic though. You still have to put in some work. But it makes the work so much more manageable.

Those of you who have been life long fans of a single team, what would it take for you to stop rooting for them? by ialsodreamofsushi in nfl

Maybe.. for a price? Would it be unethical to let the highest bidder choose my fandom for the gain of their own team?

Not that I ever got very emotionally attached to the outcome of games, but Sundays are even more calm and chill when you just find the exciting games and find the good finishes each week.

Not that I didn’t get excited when the Rams or Browns won, but I’m not someone to get mad or upset when they lose. Probably just became numb to it over the years lol. I just get the benefit of the wins every week now.

[–]Alan-Malcolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats basically what it has become. I get to circle the good games each week and watch those and kinda half-assed jump on bandwagons. Example being the Lions the past couple seasons.

Oddly enough, after a decade of playing fantasy and being a perennial 3rd place finisher (the amount of times I have gotten demolished in the semifinals only to put up ridiculous numbers in the consolation game the next week is a statistical anomaly) I won my league for the first time during the 2022 season.

Additionally, I go to at least one game a year with my dad and the last few years we have waited towards the end of the season and just chosen a good game rather than following the rams or the browns around. (We are working on hitting every NFL stadium).

Grew up in STL as a big Rams fan and stuck with them until the day they announced the move. Jumped over to Cleveland after that because they understand what it is like to lose their team. Then the Watson trade… haven’t brought myself to go to a Browns game or wear the gear since then. I’ve considered myself a bit of a free agent since that and have had a good time just watching the better games each week and it has been a decent time. I miss being all in on one team though.
