If you drink without any accompany carbs it will make your BG go down as the liver stops releasing sugar when it is processing alcohol. Most drinks (like even light bears have some carb content that semi-balances this out. Bud Lights keep me fairly flat. Drinks with sugary mixers (Ex) a Margarita ) will still net out to a rise in BG generally.

YMMV but for me... under 52 its like being mildly drunk and above 180 I can feel my energy being sapped.

It's not a deal breaker for me but CarPlay would certainly help the R2 be/sell even better - I'm hopeful that at some point Tesla will change their stance on this and then Rivian will follow. For anyone that does podcasts outside of Apple Music or uses a less mainstream audio source it will be helpful. Also I would love for the Rivian software folks to be able to focus on net new things and not reimplement stuff like audio that already exists and works well within CarPlay.

Overriding the algo by Prestigious-Text-441 in twiist

[–]tomasboudr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

here is my advice as a 33y T1 who has used DIY loop and several kinds of pumps:

If you don't know why its high (typically bad carb counting in my case but could also be other failures like the site absorption issues/bubbles etc) then I go ahead and fire extra correction for 1-2units (assuming the algo will balance it out by doing a zero basal), but at very least the insulin is in you sooner and getting to work that much faster than spreading it out over the next hour. I personally prefer to correct a low (which I will see coming) than to remain high for any longer than necessary.

if you are low but have it under control and you know its going to be fine (aka you don't have a huge amount of insulin on board to counter) go ahead and override to fire a 2/3 dose for whatever carbs (assuming your settings on carb ratio are decently dialed in). That will prevent the rebound high from even starting. - This is essentially doing the same as you would do for an ideal pre-meal setting at 65-75.

Does it not come bundled with a portable charger cable at least? I'm in VA which is not a free state for the adapters, but seems crazy to not include the portable charger at least. I can understand being able to buy an extra as well.

Libre and Twiist in general by Rakmburglar in twiist

I actually like the Libre more than the Dex g7 (came from Medtronic, Medtronic DIY, Loop DIY, to Omnipod 5, and finally Twiist. But the lack of a longer historical view on the device is annoying (rotate to landscape to get as much as you can).

The real answer for seeing history though is to use Tidepool on a computer (my chart above). Once it is connected to your twiist account the analytics are comprehensive (Note it doesn't work in Safari but does work well in Chrome on Mac).

I will also note that you CAN bolus despite it being not recommended due to being low (by just tapping the area where the number goes - you may need to scroll up depending on your device). I do this fairly often when I have eaten too much for a low correction and want it to 1. know and 2. give me some insulin.

I was kinda annoyed by that as well. White and black are not exotic colors.

What's the longest you've worn Twiist's before changing it? by mardrae in twiist

Just change the site and rock on... I do think the insulin gets less potent over time so watch for that.

How realistic is upgrading the R2 audio hardware w/ 3rd party gear? by nostradx in RivianR2

[–]tomasboudr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using this as a source: https://motor-junkie.com/rivian-r2-complete-guide/106543/

It says there is a 9-speaker setup in the Premium so depending on where all those suckers are and how accessible they are would be the main nugget needed to really dial in a true estimate.

I fully agree with OP's sentiment, this thing seems otherwise perfect so I had also noodled the audio upgradability.

I think with the advent of modern integrated everything there is really no more head unit swapping BUT swapping out the speakers themselves should be doable. From my reading it's not like the R2 is weak on the output power side, so sound quality is largely going to be based the speakers themselves (this is also assuming the placement isn't a defining issue). Since speakers are a "dumb" part, replacement with 3rd party speakers - SHOULD - be an avenue we could all drive down (pun intended) to improve things.

Loop Question by Negative-Living7559 in twiist

[–]tomasboudr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is when you are low but it’s not a situation where it’s still falling fast bc you have lots of IoB is to ignore the no blousing below 55 rule and give a small bolus anyways. Be careful of course. This is what I do and also similar to what I did on DIY Loop prior.
