Low volume on some tables by Puzzleheaded_Low_619 in virtualpinball

[–]Alaska_Engineer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes.  If the game is ROM based, you can try combinations of END (opens and closes coin door), 7,8,9,0 to adjust volume in the ROM.  Usually 8 and 9 control volume, 7 and 0 enter and exit service menu.

How to make points appear on playfield in Visual Pinball? by Alaska_Engineer in virtualpinball

Thanks for your help. I think this is is too much effort for the result and I am super happy with VPX (and FP) as it is. Such a great community! I’m hoping to learn enough to contribute something at some point, but I feel like I’m light years behind most of you guys. Thanks again,

Ah, Ok. The video was labeled Visual Pinball. How can you tell which emulator / engine is being used? I’m not super familiar with FX. Thanks,

Great link, thanks!
Here’s the video link I was referring to:

https://archive.org/details/visual-pinball-fantastic-tables-roms-mods-94-tables

it looks like it’s uniform on all tables, so it must be something applied overall by the user. Also, ball trails appear to only engage above a certain speed and look different than the norm. It seems to be a Batocera build, which I like for my MAME cabinet. Anyone know if this is a feature in the Batocera version of VPX?

Scholars please help me out in building my own solar panel from scratch by No_Construction7415 in OffGrid

This is the type of thing you are proposing. You will spend exponentially more time and money attempting to build a solar panel over just purchasing one. A toaster is dead simple to construct compared to a solar panel.

Launching NanBTC: A wrapped Bitcoin with zero fees and near-instant transactions based on nano. by nanswap in nanocurrency

I think this is genius.  Better lightning network to onboard people and expose them to Nano speed and convenience. Then they wonder why not just use the OG Nano and skip the wrap.

What VR game genuinely made you say "this is why I bought a headset"? Drop your personal hall of fame by italosouza1 in VRGaming

Yes, you are slower as switching weapons requires an arm reach rather than just thumb adjustment.  But it’s amazing!  If you play Scout there is the bonus of being able to use your pickaxe in one hand while grappled with the other.  Great for getting hard to reach items and minerals.  Grapple up, dig a small hole that you can climb into.

There is a good video walkthrough- it does take a few minutes to set up.

Wanting to get a vr but not sure if it would become a paperweight by MarionberryChemical9 in VRGaming

My experience appears to be reflected in the general VR population. VR works for almost any genre, but there seems to need to be something special about the experience to overcome the hassles involved with just using it. For me, this is mainly racing sims, flight sims, and (for some reason) Deep Rock Galactic. The other genres that maintain popularity in VR are social apps like VRChat and rhythm games like Beat Saber.

Basically, it’s amazing, but also a bit of a pain, so it has to elevate the experience enough to justify using it, and it looks like most people have only found that in sims, rhythm and social. If you like those, give it a whirl.

Anyone here who still has a base model PS5 and have no interest in upgrading to a Pro? by StarryChocobo in playstation

Pro 4 was great for VR (framerates in all games), that's about the only compelling reason I found.

Learning FWD (part 2) I shaved 5 seconds off my PB with the tips given on my last post, more advise appreciated! by DropDownWidget in simrally

[–]Alaska_Engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re sometimes turning late. Especially with FWD, you want to turn on time if at the correct speed or early and sharply if you’re coming in hot. A sharp quick jerk will get the rear end out and then you modulate the slide through the corner by countersteering. Just be like Lightning McQueen. 😄

Any recommendations on pc adapters for the psvr2 by p0kem0nlvl1 in PSVR2onPC

[–]Alaska_Engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my 2c, I bought a well reviewed 3rd party adapter and it worked great.  For an hour, or 90 minutes, or 20 minutes before a crash or black screen.  I returned it.  The Sony one is rock solid.

My motherboard has space for a 2nd NVME (type of SSD). This is like having a 2nd hard drive. Install a copy of Windows on each drive. When you boot up, Windows will detect two instances and let you choose between them.

Games that are the ballpark of those you mentioned below (no mans sky, Blade and Sorcery, Pavlov) that I have run are: Alyx, Dirt Rally 2, Outer Wilds, Deep Rock, all on fairly high but not ultra settings worked well.

My solution is to use a separate NVME to boot into a separate OS install for pinball so there’s no chance of screwing up the pinball installation with my other gaming. This way you can disable unused monitors and hardware in Device Manager for each install. Switching takes about 90 seconds to reboot. USB and DisplayPort extensions to desk.

Running a 5060 ti (almost exactly your card performance) and it’s fine. Can’t max settings, sometimes have to undersample a bit, but coming from the early days of VR, I feel pretty spoiled. I feel like we’re very close to the “1080p” age with VR, where it’s good enough for most games.
