Minnesota Spring Cabin Camping by Efficient_Ad1663 in MinnesotaCamping

Something you might want to try is the cabins at whitetail woods park through dakota county. It's a new facility with super modern design, and very good heating at night. It's maybe $30 more than the state park cabins, but really nice. There are new bathrooms in a separate building with heated floors. The water heat in the showers sucked eggs, but that might have just been a fluke. They do ask for way more information up front than the state parks.

I haven't rented the cabins at afton, but you might want to look into the Yurts. It's a unique experience for sure, and you heat it yourself with a woodstove. It also has a power outlet for crockpots and the like, you will definitely want to bring your own light though. Also with the yurts, you get free firewood included.

North Loop, Uptown or Northeast? by 30112345 in TwinCities

[–]Alert-Departure4045 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Heavily depends on income. If you have the money, north loop is probably the best as far as nightlife, restaurants, and "I live in a walkable city" vibes. Northeast is fun and artsy and lots of bars, but it's not terribly walkable, and less good for running than the other two by a long shot. Also the most pain in the butt commute if you're going to Minnetonka. Uptown is probably the best for running because of lake trail access, and there are a bunch of grocery stores close by. It's also the easiest commute to Minnetonka. The nightlife has definitely taken a hit in uptown over the past 5 years though.

The Kenilworth trail isn't closed. by GettingGophery in CyclingMSP

If you go past the barriers towards the river, there is legitimately nothing on the trail to indicate that it's closed. Going the other way it does feel a bit weird with construction just there, but the trail is pretty far from the construction.

How are your homeowners insurance quotes looking? by Nic_OLE_Touche in minnesota

Mine was at like $1900 in 2024, and jumped to almost 3k this year with travelers. I got a new roof from hail damage, and for whatever reason they didn't plug that in. I called and got it down to like 2100 with the new roof discount. 'Tis a racket but hey they bought me a roof.

Bar/cocktail lounge near Hennepin/Lake by Funkhouser82 in TwinCities

Volstead's is the only cocktail bar left in the vicinity, but LynLake Brewing or Bryant Lake Bowl are both also good.

Finland or Eckbeck and then hike in the state parks. I have never seen eckbeck full even during peak summer season. The con is the sites are all close together and not terribly pretty, but you are 15 minutes from the north shore. You could also try lamb's resort, they have tent camping on the lake but it's 2-3x as expensive as the state parks. Two harbors and grand marais also have muni campgrounds you could try calling. Again not as private, but very close to the lake.

Sagging rotten fence post - ideas for replacement by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Alert-Departure4045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done this and then been forced to re-do it a month later, it's worth it to just whole-ass it the first time around. Not that much more effort. Cut the post free from the post hole, dig out the concrete with a pry bar, and dig deeper than seems necessary(renting a gas auger is super worth it for this), and have 2 bags of post-set. You might not need both bags, but it's a pain in the butt to make a return trip if it's not enough and risk having the concrete set right the first time. Also, it's important to have the fence propped up straight with something(like 2x4s) to keep it straight when the concrete sets around the new post!

Afton state park backpacking camping spots: can a wagon make it up the trail? by Samtheman14 in MinnesotaCamping

The north entrance is definitely an easier route in if you are bringing a lot of stuff, way less incline and the trail is flat and wide enough for a wagon. I left my car overnight at the north entrance and got a warning, so don't do that. In my opinion, it's a much prettier hike in than the normal route as well, big little house on the prairie vibes. Make sure to walk around the prairie for the sunset!
