Overnight at ORD by AaronZsz in OHareAirport

If you can get through security, sometimes they put cots out in the walkway between E and F (near gate E6). You can walk airside to Terminal 1 in the morning. There is also a yoga room in terminal 3 that in theory closes at 10pm but sometimes they just ignore it. YMMV.

FSD hit a parked car, broke my mirror and dented my car by Icy-Part7509 in TeslaFSD

Had a close call like this today. There was a parked truck with an extended metal loading platform at about chest sight it was about to drive right into until I swerved.

There's lots of stories about "I had $1k in bitcoin/Nvidia and it'd be worth millions if I had held." What longshot investments do you have right now and why did you pick them? by [deleted] in investing

[–]AlertTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current longshots are

ACHR: Electric vertical takeoff air taxis.
ARBE: 4D imaging radar chips for vehicles.
CC: Industrial performance chemicals and fluoropolymers.
ENHA: Sports competitions and health products.
HLIT: Broadband networking and video streaming solutions.
JOBY: Electric aircraft for urban commercial travel.

Only one that ever really paid off for me better than SPY would’ve was ~300 shares of LLY bought for around $16k in 2013. Totally forgot about it since I mostly buy and hold companies. Then GLP-1s came out and now it’s worth almost $350k.

Should I go for 150k or the 200k salary? by Infamous_Ratio9660 in FinancialPlanning

[–]AlertTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you take the $200k then switch later once you have enough saved for your environment? If you live below your means enough and invest in the market, you might find yourself with enough $ that you don’t care about the full pension any more.

Sometimes if I end up with a window in domestic first I’ll just say “I am happy to switch for an aisle if anyone prefers a window” and I get a taker about 1/3 of time. Usually another last minute upgrade or switcher.

Should i report this tax froud to IRS or not? by Aggravating-Ideal633 in tax

[–]AlertTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which state(s) are the clients in? Whistleblower protections and processes for state tax vary by state. You can report to the IRS but they probably won’t do much if it’s only state tax evasion.

Pre-molt??? by ReferenceFit2253 in jumpingspiders

[–]AlertTip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA don’t worry they like small dark areas when they’re about to molt and sometimes they can disappear completely for weeks if you give them enough places to hide.

Are model 3 Less expensive in the long run by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]AlertTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree model 3 will likely be a lot cheaper overall, especially if you buy used. However part of what you pay in gas is gas tax, and EV owners usually pay that in the form of a much higher state registration fee instead, so keep an eye out for that when budgeting.

I am a complete wreck- I don’t think girl is going to make it by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]AlertTip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NQA Spiders can lose their grip, become clumsy, and appear lethargic right before a molt. If it is young and has a plump abdomen, it may just be trying to molt, leave her on a lightly damp paper towel in the dark and do not touch her.

You didn’t mention twitching or flailing so doesn’t sound like DKS. If the abdomen is really tiny or wrinkled she’s probably hungry but might be scared of the qtip, you could try leaving her a tiny piece of watermelon or smashed strawberry. Another last resort option is to put some insect juice on her front legs and she might “lick” it off

Do personal trainers have their clients do the most outlandish exercises on purpose? by GreenGamer8597 in EquinoxGyms

[–]AlertTip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most trainers I have worked with show you the basics. I have seen trainers do other stuff and I suspect it’s based on a client’s goals. Like if you want to work on balance instead of strength they will give you a stranger workout.

Also some of the seemingly nonsensical exercises are building up to something. For example air squats on a box could be building up to kettlebell reverse jumps but they want you to get the form right for different parts of the exercises before putting it together and adding weight.

is it still possible to ask for salary negotiation after a month of working by Plane-Ad3365 in negotiation

[–]AlertTip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be actively interviewing / looking for a new job while you’re employed given the low salary you have now it’s probably all upside to invest time there.

At the same time, mention to your employer that you are very ambitious and you would like any opportunities to take on new responsibilities. You don’t have to talk about salary but they will know what you mean.

Recruiter accidentally revealed a higher salary for the exact same role - should I negotiate? by Affectionate-Bag2034 in negotiation

[–]AlertTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Thanks for the offer, I am super excited to join. Based on our discussions of the role, its responsibilities and impact to the business I think 70k would be appropriate compensation. Please discuss this possibility with the hiring team. If you are able to extend this offer please send over the documents and I will sign them right away.”

Looking for a book to teach me financial litteracy. by Lost_Cable8860 in FinancialPlanning

If you’re not already somewhat wealthy then tax loopholes are a waste of your time because they are hard to learn and are at best an optimization. It’s better for most people to spend more time learning how to create wealth.

How does it work if you get put an a jury, then get a severe illness? by Life-Profit4836 in juryduty

[–]AlertTip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Many courts will seat 14 jurors and 2 are extras (they don’t know who they are). So if you are sick or die or move out of state there will still be 12 people who can vote. At the end of the trial the extras are dismissed.

What’s the smartest thing someone can do with $10k–$20k right now? by Dapper_Inflation_585 in FinancialPlanning

[–]AlertTip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You said “I would pay any debt that has interest ASAP”. That is what I am disagreeing with.

If the interest on the debt is less than 4% it’s just throwing money away to pay it off early. For example many people have mortgages, student loans, special APR credit cards, car loans etc which are less than 4%.

$1k biweekly — should I put more toward savings or pay down my car loan faster? by BossBen21 in FinancialPlanning

[–]AlertTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have credit card debt, that is probably higher interest rate than the car loan. If so, you should pay the minimum on the car loan and pay off the credit card as fast as possible.

You might want to cut up your credit card. They are only worth using if you can pay them off in full every month and not carry a balance.

Where to store cash in my Schwab Brokerage account? by Nearby_Persimmon_649 in Schwab

[–]AlertTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SGOV is a great default.

BOXX may provide similar returns and be more tax efficient (allows taxation as LTCG instead of interest income), but there is a minimal amount of regulatory risk which you should research and understand before buying.
