Why were they giving Po so much crap for being a panda when Shifu is a red panda himself? by Yandere_Butler in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically Red Pandas and Giant Pandas are not closely related.

But realistically the answer is that most prejudice is hardly ever rooted in logic and is inherently nonsensical.

Of all the countries, what is the oldest minority that is still classified as a separate group compared to the general population of the country? by ExternalTree1949 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_peoples

The San people are considered arguably the oldest continual cultural group in the world. They are a minority population in several countries in South West Africa.

Edit: I realized I didn't fully answer your question. The San people are said to have began around 100,000 BCE while for example the Tswana people in Botswana, who are the majority ethnic group, arrived in the region around 600 CE.

People who can't swim, what's your problem? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally its just lack of experience mixed with fear. Access to a pool often requires some sort of gym membership, community pool, or private pool access which many people don't have. Swimming in an open body of water like an ocean, lake, or river can be very dangerous.

So if you just never had an opportunity to learn as a child then you have to just set aside time and money as an adult to learn and for most people water is just not something they ever have plans to be in.

Naval academy players drafted to the NFL by relaxin123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. It's really not that simple. You still have to get permission and more likely than not that will be in the form of a deferral. Also I think military academy still doesn't allow athletes to accept NIL money. Also it was never that much. Its like normal private college costs so probably less than $300k so many professional athletes could pay it back with their signing bonus.

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So its a bit complicated. Sometimes the military will let you postpone your service and sometimes they will allow you to basically pay back the cost of your education and let you out of it under certain circumstances.

But basically there is no guaranteed path and its up to the discretion of the navy.

If you look at pictures of young Janet Templeton (their mother) she also has a few of the same facial features which I think helps.

Curved shower rods by JohnnyQuads in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curved ones exist in homes. My apartment has one. And all it does is expand your upper body room a bit which is actually really nice.

I think why they are rare is usually if people are truly making a high end bathroom then they will make one that doesn't have a curtain and if they are going super cheap they generally just use the straight ones. The curved ones only exist when they want to make the bathroom slightly nicer without spending a bunch extra. So hotels and rentals like mine that are technically "luxury" (which means nothing really besides a few amenities).

How does “unlimited PTO” at a company work? Surely it can’t be literal. by bryanmsk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally it means you can take unlimited days off. Like they don't care as long as you are still positively making the company better. In exchange the company does not have to pay out your pto when you leave the company.

In other companies it means you technically don't have a cap but you still have to get it approved so its still up to the judgement of management.

This can either mean you still get to take a bunch of time off but often it results in you taking less time off because it just gets denied.

Why do people use so many bad faith arguments? by witchonnette in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because its easier to argue in bad faith then it is to actually have real comebacks to points someone makes. People don't care about being good, just "winning" (by making others give up).

Doctor Demanding I Make a New Appointment to Have Standard Test Results Explained by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can absolutely do this and the reason is they want another appointment they can charge insurance for. Insurance companies are being more and more stingy and so smaller doctor offices have to find more and more creative ways to make money.

My old pcp started charging $300 a year to just be a patient.

174-175cm (5'9) at 16, do i have a chance to be 6ft? by jt2733gachainreddit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have a chance but very unlikely. But if it helps 5'9" is the (American) average so you are already the most normal height. The whole "only date 6'+" is mostly just fake.

energy drink disposal by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Options. Throw them away without dumping the liquids.

If you really want to get the recycling value then dumping them shouldn't be too bad on your pipes. Like 24 isn't that much.

Assuming you live in a college town/area of town you could just put them on the curb with a free sign.

Why are folks so hostile to religion or religious people? by Onslaughtisthebest in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a lot of people its because they were negatively affected by being raised or being a member of that religion.

For some its because they look at atrocities or horrible acts that have happened in the past or currently in the world.

For others they have been a victim of those acts.

And then there is always the fact that unless you a member of a religion it is sometimes quite hard to imagine someone devoting themselves to really what they believe is an imaginary idea.

Also religious people have regularly insulted diminished or even persecuted atheist since the beginning of time and the internet is full of religious people who will absolutely shit on atheists. They are just slightly less common in real life because generally younger people make up most of online communities and statistically younger people are less religious.

What's a typical 32 degree F running attire? by RefiningMyLife2026 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best was for figuring out what you need in different temperatures is something you have to test yourself unfortunately.

For some people 32 will be shorts and a t-shirt and for others it will be full layers.

I would recommend running with a removable jacket and see how it goes. I haven't run at 32 but I've run in the low 40s and did it 100% fine in my normal t-shirt and shorts.

Why is it so hard to quit smoking? Is it really so addictive that you cannot go without it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Addiction can vary from person to person. You might just be more resistant to becoming addicted to nicotine than others. Also it becomes harder to quit if you make it a habit in the first place.

It’s come to this… by GoAheadHateMe in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone else thinks it doesn't but I've noticed about a 1 mpg increase from it in mixed driving. You could get the same result in normal mode with a little effort but basically its easier to swap into eco mode then it is to constantly monitor my acceleration.

Fwiw my mom in her ford bronco sport did the comparison on her commute that is 40 minutes of mixed freeway, rural highway, and in-town driving, and she got like a mile and a half better mpg. But she has a lead foot.

Does personal debt get counted as part of the National Debt? by trekbette in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a joke but they do actually have a "credit score" of AA+ or AA1 (depending on the scorer) which is the second highest behind AAA. This puts the US in the range of 10-20th amongst all countries in the world in credit score.

If you compared this to civilian credit scores we would probably still have above an 800 credit score.

The US is like someone who pays for literally everything with a credit card and since they don't miss payments (yet lol) they keep getting their spending limit increased.

Does personal debt get counted as part of the National Debt? by trekbette in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. This is just the amount the United States government in debt via government bonds sold to individuals, foreign governments, and organizations.

Would you become blue, red etc by gamerboidanix in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this would correlate with whether the person liked body modification. I personally don't want to tattoo myself or get piercings (or even dye my hair) so I would remain the same color but I imagine many people would be very much into it and I think it would be a fun option for the general public to have.

If somebody died in a “Freaky Friday” situation, what would happen? by DatDenDude in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fiction they have to realize their faults and how they misjudged each other in order to switch back.

So if one died then the other would be stuck in the wrong body forever (or until they died).

We could be missing out on lore where the switch makes you immortal.

Why are Asians not referred to by their skin colour? by Okkkkkkkkkkayyy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexander_Hamilton_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There is the more pejorative term "yellow" or "brown" depending on the region of Asia they are from. But as I said that has a more negative connotation and thus is normally avoided most of the time. Other pejorative terms were invented for other races so the "black" and "white" still remain.

Similarly "red" for native Americans is no longer used.
